Hello chapochat community! My name is Blake and I am currently the highest bidder for the hexbear domain. I am cofounder of hexcoin and our team has struggled due to…

the similarities between our branding and your site’s mascot who we still think is very cute! We don’t want our coin to pertain any political agenda and it’s bad for our business. We have suffered some losses from the coin community as people think we are associated with hexbear when they search for hexcoin, I assume this website comes up on the same search for ours, which is mostly liberal adjacent and that puts people off from purchasing our coin. There’s also an assumption that we are using the coin to “fund radicalism.” And if you don’t see there’s a similarity here then look again!

We apologize for this mess but we still think it is in our best interests to acquire our rights to the domain, we beg anyone not to waste their money because bidding wars only make things harder for the final bidder. We are a small company working out of a garage in Oregon and we have put too much time, money, and energy into this thing. Please understand! Also thank you and sorry.

  • Dear Blake,

Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your journey with us. I see you and I hear you. Your dedication to your project and the challenges you've faced truly resonate with us, and we appreciate the vulnerability it takes to express your perspective. Your lived experience as a small business owner is deeply important, and we hold space for that.

At this time, the domain remains in an open auction process, and we encourage all interested parties to participate in accordance with the platform’s guidelines. We absolutely understand that bidding wars can be challenging, but we also recognize that open and equitable marketplaces create opportunities for all. If acquiring the domain aligns with your business goals, we encourage you to engage fully in this process!

While we are unable to intervene in the auction, we strongly encourage you to post hog. Engaging with the community in good faith will allow us to better understand your needs and assist in ways that align with our values of open dialogue and mutual respect.

We appreciate you, we see you, and we value your contribution to this ongoing conversation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further thoughts to share—we are always here to listen.

Wishing you the absolute best on your journey,

    SoyViking

  • On the chance this is real, I'm going to try give a constructive comment with some humility, and not have a meltdown like my fellow users. We're not the ones in a bidding war, we don't have the resources or cash to do that. The people bidding against you are likely people from other Lemmy instances and subreddits who dislike hexbear the social media website/Lemmy instance and want to try get one over us.

Also, whatever you may think of this website, if you like us or hate us, we do have a donations community on here. This community helps a few people in Gaza/Palestine, who also have accounts on this website, get the resources they need to survive, and also helps homeless users and users struggling to make rent get what they need to survive. Some of our users have posted pictures of themselves buying bags of flour in Gaza for instance. With the domain change, we are scared that some of these users who rely on our donations do not not know that our website is still around, and may think that we've disappeared, which is not the case.

Since it seems inevitable that you will acquire the domain and with the previous paragraph in mind, can I humbly ask that once you have acquired the domain, that you can put up a notice for a few days there saying something along the lines "hexbear.net has moved to their new domain, this domain has been acquired by hexcoin" with a redirect to whatever new domain we choose? That way those that do rely on us for donations can find their way to our new home/domain. Again, even if you hate us, hate our politics, etc, these people (some of whom live in Gaza in terrible conditions) are vulnerable and rely on us for the small amount of aid we can provide. So I would hate to see them think that we have disappeared and to lose a source of assistance.

After that you, of course, can do whatever you want with the domain, as it is your right when you purchase it. You can also obviously say no to this request as well. But I just wanted to ask this one request, because i would hate to see our most vulnerable users go without help.
