It's going to take decades to undo all the damage this guy has done, he's been so bad for the world.
Don't forget he vassalised Europe with Nordstream and got them to up their NATO contributions massively, when Trump tried that before he was laughed out of the room.
The leader of HTS was an Al-Qaeda member from 2003 and the leader of Al Nusra. Any purge of Al-Qaeda or ISIS elements is likely done for pr to make support from states such as Turkey more palatable. The ideology is fundamentally the same, even if goals are different. HTS is just Al Nusra under a different name after splintering off from Al-Qaeda.
Today was actually one of the deadliest days in Gaza, with over 100 people reported to have been killed.
The coup that led to the Ba'athists gaining power/control over Syria.
And Ukraine helps them now with drones, according to the Kyiv Post
According to reports on some Islamist social media sites, the rebel groups based in the Idlib region – which is said to include members of the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP) – had received operational training from special forces troops from the Khimik group of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR). The training team focused on tactics developed during the war in Ukraine, including on the use of drones.
Yeah it's not the end of Syria yet or anything like that, Syria's been through much worse, right before Russia intervened in Syria in 2015 the Assad government controlled less than a quarter of the country, with those numbers going down to less than a fifth in sometime in 2017. It's just going to be really difficult to regain control of all the list territory, these groups, at least their advanced units, aren't really your typical rebels or terrorists anymore.
I mean these are the groups that literally did 9/11. The leader of the HTS is ex Al-Qaeda/Al-Nusra.
The terrorists are quite a different force than last time though. Their advanced units have drones (likely from Ukraine), night vision/thermals, Turkish and Israeli support. They've also captured a ton of equipment from the SAA, which is equipment that the SAA will not have and will have to procure replacements from Russia and Iran, and can be used by the terrorists. Just from losses confirmed today (that likely occurred yesterday during the retreat to Hama) the SAA lost 46 tanks, 22 IFVs, along with a a large number of self propelled and towed artillery guns, and Humvee/Jeep class vehicles, for a total of 147 captured pieces of equipment by the terrorists. That's enough for several tank battalions and artillery batteries. While they won't be able to make use of all of it (I can't see these groups operating Pantsir air defence systems and L-39 fighter aircraft), they can certainly make use of the tanks and armoured vehicles. The total numbers throughout the entire terrorist offensive are likely double or triple that, yesterday it was confirmed that the SAA lost 99 pieces of equipment to the terrorists
It's going to be a tough fight to regain all this lost territory.
The front has stabilised, but the situation is still pretty dire. Aleppo is going to fall under complete rebel control, as the remaining SAA and SDF/YPG holdouts are encircled. The Syrian government hasn't completely lost Aleppo since 1963. The Al-Qaeda/ISIS splinter groups in control are going to start doing all the inhumane activities that they do to any dissenters, religious/ethnic minorities, and POWs. As a warning, the first videos of this are likely spreading on social media channels (I don't know if they are, but I have no desire to seek such out), I'll be avoiding those and recommend everyone does the same. Territory that took years to recapture is gone within days. Finally being able to hold territory in Hama is the only positive. Heavily reinforcing SAA positions in that city was the right decision to make, to stop the bleeding, so to speak. I'm glad that the government did that, I had my doubts given the rate of advance in previous days. Russia and Iran probably oversaw that decision.
No one understands regex anyways so
I declare my undying love for all the big beautiful posters! You all make the website go round folks! Hugs to all 🤗
Yeah the SAA heavily reinforced their positions in Hama to prevent it from falling, probably under the instructions of Russia and/or Iran.
Just going to provide warning, there are images of him being dead circulating online these images are either fake or not him, the ears don't match at all.
I think Russia and Iran told Syria that they have to make a stand and hold Hama at all costs, because of it's strategic importance and also to buy some time, so reinforcements can arrive.
Even worse, HTS is literally led by an ex Al Nusra/Al Qaeda guy. The SNA/FSA are the "moderate rebels".
They're literally supporting Al-Qaeda spinoffs, I don't understand it.
I hope the SAA decide to reinforce Hama, they desperately need to buy time for more Russian support to arrive.
Think it's more likely to be counterinsurgency operations by the SAA than a coup attempt. Insurgents that got in behind the frontlines in Aleppo were a big problem last night. Want to make sure that's not an issue in Damascus, that could cause a big issue.
like HTS is just sending small groups forward for propaganda shoots
They did that early last night, but with the current rate of advance it was no longer necessary for today's gains, and gains made late last night. They may do it again tonight in Hama and have probably started posting pictures already for propaganda purposes, but unless the SAA heavily reinforce their positions there, it's likely to fall within the next few hours. Reliable sources like Suriyakmaps have stated as much.
I looove Marmite!
