What age to people begin to like colors?

Don't take this too personally, but I started liking brighter colors when I began to notice their effects on my mood and to manage mild depression, especially seasonal moodiness.

I always did, but I pretended like I was above it for a long time. I think it felt uncool to care about that kind of thing? I don't know, I was insecure. Now that I've run out of fucks, my house is really colorful and I love it. Beige everything makes me wish for the sweet release of death. Depending on how old your kids are, they might be going through a similar phase, and maybe they'll outgrow it too.
- My favorite color is brown, well, rust specifically, so beige is nice. It's not as important than the ability to reflect light though. With that you can do all sorts of mood lighting and coloring with vibrant objects.

I remember liking colors since age 3. That doesn't mean I have developed a sense of taste about them. Those are two very different things. Perhaps your kids are right? Perhaps not. A lot of people never learn to combine colors in what's considered a pleasant manner, but what matters is that they are happy with their choices.
- Oh yeah. I do not have color matching skill! Most days i wear neutral shorts/pants or jeans and whatever on top, or a dress where no matching is required.
  
  Think of a base and look up what highlights or contrasts it. Red or Blue calls for black or white, or maybe brown to beige. Green when dull calls for browns. Orange calls for black more than white, some darker blues or jeans too. Purple and violet like green, or grey or beige. Pink goes better with white than black. If you want several look at how flowers combine the multiple colors (besides all the green). Those are the combinations that generally are enjoyable to see.
  Edit: I just wear black or blue as a base and add red as highlight most of the time. Red shirt. Red belt, white and red shoes. And for whatever else I have specific outfits I don't mix with anything else. Somethings I look like a metal head with band shirts and long hair. The next day you'll see me wear basics and light jeans with a straw hat.

My two year old has rotating favorite colors. He knows our favorite colors and he will bring us objects that are those colors, and then we ask what his favorite color is. He'll pick out a marker or point to something or say a color. It changes every few days. Today was "lello", a few days ago it was "bu". He's probably been interested in colorful objects (favoring something in primary colors vs pastels or neutrals) since about 5 months. So at least this kid has been interested in color almost from the beginning.

Lol I am right there with you. In my teenage years I dressed all black, tons of black eyeliner, etc. And scoffed at anything pastel or pink. Now? Well now I have purple hair, rainbow shoes, colorful pants and whatever ticks my fancy. When my brother cuestioned me I told him that since I wore all black for a long time (still do from time to time) I loved colorful outfits now and he was like "Well, you know you don't have to make up for it, right?" Oh ffs just leave me alone. No one cares and it makes me happy.

I think the big thing here is which colours you’re into. Tastes change over time, either because of style trends or just age.
My childhood home had disgusting orange shag carpets. A purple toilet. A turquoise toilet. Fucking hideous by today's standards, but I guess someone in the 60s thought it was awesome.
I’d pole your kids and ask for more detail. If they’re rolling their eyes because of “colour”, tell em to shaddap. If you’re picking really, really loud colours that don’t fit any particular motif, you can of course do what you want, but they might have a point on style.
- Those are the colors I'm digging right now! Maybe it's nostalgia? I'm tired of my furniture all being brown. About to have a chair covered in green leather and I'm going to uncover a brown chair hoping the orange from my childhood is still underneath.

My kids had a noticeable color preference from the age of 6 months. It changes over time.

When I was 4 I remember loving everything that is colourful, and I still do now! I think it depends entirely on the individual since everyone's different!

Um. That sounds so weird. My kids always liked colors, I like colors, about the same amount as always. The blue, blue sky. The vivid pink of the bougainvillea, we all notice these.
I don't have particularly colorful decor though. More like neutrals and muted colors with splashes of brighter.

Not too sure, but when I was younger I wanted to fit in and picking colorful stuff made that harder. Id worry about it being on trend, or masculine enough, etc. Now that I'm in my 30s I said fuck it and am getting more colorful.
Doesn't help that I grew up with a mother who refuses to paint her walls anything but off-white or pale green for resale value. There was so little character.

There are people who don't like colors?
I don't want everything to be colorful all the time, but that's because I I find too much color visually tiring, and having rested eyes makes me appreciate colors better when I see them.
