- What scientific study are you waiting for that'll just shit on everything we've once thought to have believed in?
Like, we'll probably find out that eating boogers actually makes you immune to select illnesses or something crazy like that.
- What will always be cringe-inducing to you?
White guys saying the N word and being gangsta. There is nothing ever cool about a white guy pretending to be ghetto. Yes I'll include Eminem and I don't care if he's been given the pass.
- Does intelligence have anything to do with speech and articulation problems?
Can your intelligence effect your speech and articulation? I found this interesting post on Reddit earlier about this topic. I really feel this post as someone with speech disorders and a intellectual disability I've wondered this before. Is it true tho?
- When someone is telling a story or about to tell a story, what part makes you think it's going to be interesting or boring?
Whenever someone has to highlight the fact that when they're telling a story from 30 years ago or longer, that they 'didn't have smartphones'. Like yeah, I don't expect someone from 1995 to have such a device and the closest things you've got were PDAs.
I just know it's going to be some old boomer like story that'll bore me.
- What should I expect if I have been summoned for jury duty?
I have it tomorrow, and I live in the state of Florida.
- What music do you guys listen to when you're sad?
I'm listening to Jacques Brel right now. What else y'all got for me? All genres and languages welcome.
- What hobby seems to have the worst hoarders?
I think people who are into crafts. They have all of these yarns, construction papers, various tools and stuff. All so that they can say that they have all of these projects in mind that they want to do. But they never do them so they get more crafting stuff and it just eats away storage until their place is practically consumed by it.
- Happy National Llama Day(US)! What is your favorite National (funny or odd) holiday in your country and why?nationaltoday.com National Llama Day
The perfect day to appreciate one of the fuzziest farm animals around.
A funny one I heard was: Google March 14th national holiday for men, lol.
- What is something that you've found 'defeats the purpose'?
For example, you're cleaning a room, your home or your apartment. And you find it defeating the purpose to dust things and wipe them down because, dust comes back anyways and eventually. It might not be as bad as it was or as bad as it could be, but you'll always end up with dust and cleaning dust is just a grand waste of effort and time.
- What item you use frequently would you be least surprised to learn is secretly bad for you?
This is sort of a shower thought because this morning I was using some shaving cream and I thought, if it turns out in 5 years this was giving me cancer, I wouldn't be surprised.
Comes out a goo, ejected from a can with force, immediately becomes a foam?
Do you have anything you use that you think might be too good to be true?
- When can we expect Executives with robot security?
This is a collection of fragmented thoughts brought on by recent events during a long drive. It’s not meant to be “doom and gloom” serious…
Is it correct to expect an uptick in private security firms for executive protection?
Is it correct to assume that some of the ultra rich have their own “private military/force”?
How long until we see executives with some form of robotic security accompanying them?
I can’t tell if we’d expect to see them used in a military capacity first or if the military has too meet redundancy needs first – making it more likely for private ownership first.
I know we’ve seen examples of robodogs on a golf course - but when might an executive be strolling the streets with some form of automated protection?
What might be more realistic near term, or a decade into the future? Hiring soldiers/private-security would still make the most sense?
- NSFW Advent calendar sites - where are the guys?
I follow booby and bootie Christmas but cannot find a similar thing with hot guys. Anyone know of such a thing?
- What are you not nostalgic for?
I don't miss dial-up internet, I just don't. I don't even like the sound because it's just digital screeches and it's a sound that makes me cringe a little upon hearing it. Because I remember the times when I'd be listening to music with headphones with volume high and then that fucking digital screech just blares into my ears.
I don't miss waiting 30 minutes to load a page. I don't miss a bit of it.
- Has there ever been a case where a kidnapee was able to brainwash his captors into freeing him/her?
Though the question sounds very narrow, I am actually trying to explore a theme. I was reading in a book about Brainwashing about how the Chinese Communists or Christian priests were trying to brainwash people who didn't believe in their ideology. Protestants trying to convenience Catholics and vice versa. Kidnappers being successful in brainwashing Patty Hearst who being a victim of Kidnapping herself, went on to rob a bank for her captors willingly as she had now believed in their ideology. etc.,.
So, I was wondering, has brainwashing ever worked in reverse where a person who is supposed to be a victim of brainwashing manages to outfox their captors and manages to change the mind of their captors or break free? Maybe a protestant priest managed to convert a catholic priest? You get the theme.
- Is canceling student loan debt considered stealing?
I have an economics teacher that made this claim in class yesterday. I wanted to know other people’s thoughts about it.
- What is an intrusive thought you feel like you are only a couple steps away from indulging?
As for me: Due to Christmas rapidly approaching my place earns increasing amounts of money. It would be so easy to just snag a whole day of store income and forever vanish into another country.
- What are some unwritten rules when taking days off?
Mine is - DO NOT go to the building you work at. Like if you're a retail worker, it is not wise to go to the store you work at or the restaurant. Because they see you come in shopping for whatever reason, they'll possibly be on your ass about you being able to come in and shop but not work that day.
- What pieces of software can you recommend that's free, efficient and does not bullshit around?
Notepad++ - This piece of software is a very advanced form of Notepad. Fuck that basic Notepad shit that Windows or any other OS gives you. This one is all you'll ever need for basic note-taking needs. But it does a hell of a lot more. One thing I love about it is that, if for any reason I put my PC to sleep, it crashes, power outage, I can run this again and everything I've ever written and no matter how many tabs - it's all retained.
AIMP - The definitive media player that you'll ever need for just playing stuff (music only, sorry if I mislead those thinking it can do video). Winamp and all the other software are just around for nostalgia (though Winamp has it's uses where you need it to play specific formats like video game music such as SNES with .SPC). One feature that attracted me to it was, it used to infuriate me when I am playing something and something crashes in any other media player. And you boot up that media player and you have to play your playlist all over again or that song from the beginning.
Not AIMP, if I accidentally close it, crash or whatever, I can bring it back up and it'll have the song or whatever on Pause so I can resume. Why isn't shit like this more implemented in software?
- Any Lemmings (game) app suggestion for iOS preferably something indie or FOSS rather than Sony ?
Just got an itch to play lemmings-esque games on my tablet. Trying to convert things I do and like to foss versions.
- Irreligious people, what's it like having kids when your parents are religious?
I don't think I can ever let my parents know I'm an atheist and with that seems to go my chance of having kids.
Which got me curious: can any irreligious people on here who have kids while having religious parents share what thats like?
Would love to hear your stories or thoughts on this in general.
- What do you think the worst year was for your hobby?
Like X is the worst year for books or Y is the worst year for games .etc
- What work place dramas has you found yourself in even though you didn't do anything wrong?
It could be that someone got fired for something they did and you got the blame for them being fired.
Or it could be something else, so spill the beans what workplace dramas have you been involved in?
- What are some of your pet peeves when on voice or the phone?
When you're in a call and you want to talk to someone or a couple people, but you're in a group with someone you don't particularly care for. So you have to sit there and listen to them overtalk and maybe you don't even like their voice. But you can't mute them or be rude so you have to waste time until they finally leave.
- What do you think of Social Credit (the economic system)
>Social credit is a distributive philosophy of political economy developed in the 1920s and 1930s by C. H. Douglas. Douglas attributed economic downturns to discrepancies between the cost of goods and the compensation of the workers who made them. To combat what he saw as a chronic deficiency of purchasing power in the economy, Douglas prescribed government intervention in the form of the issuance of debt-free money directly to consumers or producers (if they sold their product below cost to consumers) in order to combat such discrepancy.

previous (possibly incorrect) ChatGPT summary
___ > Social Credit is an economic theory by C.H. Douglas that aims to fix a fundamental problem: the total cost of producing goods and services is always greater than the money people have to buy them. To solve this, Social Credit proposes a National Dividend, a regular payment given to all citizens to boost their purchasing power, and a Compensated Price Mechanism, which reduces prices so consumers can afford more while producers still make a profit. The idea is to ensure that the economy works for everyone by closing the gap between what people earn and what they need to spend, without relying on debt or heavy government control.
--- Stumbled onto this randomly and I find it interesting and rarely talked about. It almost seems like a capitalistic approach to communism which I had no idea existed. The oddest thing about it to me is that most parties advocating for it were highly religious and right wing. On the surface, it seems fairly progressive and left leaning to me though.
What are your thoughts?
- What Operating System do you prefer to use the most and why?
For desktop computers, either Windows or Linux. Windows on my main computer since I rely on so much Windows-only software (MS Office, Many Games) despite the BS that Microsoft does to windows in new versions, but Linux has gotten way better lately, especially as it picks up new users as Windows declines. MacOS to me the worst of both worlds when it comes to lack of software support and corporate BS
For Mobile, definitely Android. Android is what I wish Linux was for Desktop computers; Loads of software you can get from many places, open source, and not locked down. It's mainly the way it is because for Mobile OS's, Microsoft was spending too much resources shooting itself in the foot with the Zune than to make the necessary improvements to make Windows Mobile to be competitive, and by the time they realized their mistake it was too late. iOS is such a pain in the ass for me to use due to how locked down it is, and while it has more software support than MacOS, its locked down nature and being mostly restricted to getting software from Apple means that several apps that I rely on (including a few apps not on the Google Play store) will never be available for iOS. I also like to see where every single file on my phone actually is
- If you were an emperor and were going to die soon and needed an heir, what steps would you take to help further assure you that the heir you were about to choose took things in the intended direction?
This was always an issue in Rome. People were afraid their heirs would turn out to secretly be wannabe dictators, and you couldn't do anything about it since you were dead. How would you go about making sure your heir was as close to your vision as possible, both outwardly and in their desires should they be emperor?
- If you could be reincarnated as anything what would you want to be reincarnated as?
Without a doubt a 1970s rockstar
