  • I deleted my Facebook account in 2010 after Zuck's "stupid fucks" comment and never touched a product that I could associate with them since.

  • I use Messenger because of inertia. I've had it for over a decade and all my shit is on there, including how I met my girlfriend of 6 years.

  • I have FB only because I have friends who communicate primarily through messenger. They have shit cell signal where they live, so they use messenger on wifi. I told them they have different options, but they like messenger so whatever lol. I'll deal with it because I love the fools and enjoy their company lol.

  • Curious as to why not count the Quest?

Mostly because it is the only Meta product I use daily. Facebook might be used once in a blue moon just so I can try and contact my best bud if I don't see him log into Steam in a while.

Even more curious as to if anyone here regularly does work in VR with the thing or has meetings in Horizon Worlds. I find this idea amusing thinking how a boring ass office meeting could be made a little more fun if everyone is some random cartoon character or dinosaur or 3D geometric shape.

  • I still have to use WhatsApp for my international family. That is what they use. My mom also still uses Facebook Messenger and won't move to something else. I think it is because she uses it on her tablet and WhatsApp won't work on it. I tried getting everyone to move to Signal but I was very lonely on that hill. I have FB account but I rarely every check it (once in every six months or so). I got off in 2018 after I felt so angry over something political in the US and realized that FB was making me angry on purpose to get clicks. I never had Instagram. Got into Pixelfed and I'm enjoying it a lot (perhaps because I have no prior benchmark with Instagram).

I've been quite concerned with Meta since I read "The Chaos Machine" by Max Fischer which goes into detail about how FB was heavily responsible for the ethnic cleansing of the Rohyinga in Burma.

I once read a series of articles where someone gave up using one of the big five tech companies (Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft) for one week each. It was interesting how hard it was do with some. Facebook and Apple were the easiest but Amazon was nearly impossible because of AWS. I've concluded that for me, I can minimize my Facebook, Google, and Amazon use as much possible but in the end, just have to live with Microsoft and to a much lesser extent Apple for time being. But to each their own.

  • I use Facebook for a few nonprofit pages I run. Its main perk is events organization. I also use Instagram for my nonprofits as well -- it's easy(ish) to cross post on both platforms while still respecting the individual audiences who consume content on each.

  • I don't use any Meta products and I've deleted any accounts I had on them. This includes the ones mentioned, Oculus (I have the CV1 headset but wouldn't be able to use it that easily anyway due to switching to Linux) and WhatsApp.

  • I used to for communicating with friends. I felt I was starting to become addicted to doomscrolling, basically said "screw this, message me on Matrix", and deleted my accounts. Two of the lot actually made an account, and nobody except me actually uses it. So be it, then. I care more about my privacy than having people to talk to.

  • I have an instagram account for a website I have. I also have a personal account (with nothing posted) to attempt to keep up with social and local events. It's mostly pointless though because the algorithm shows me stuff from three or four days ago, not things that are posted chronologically, or today.
