  • No problem! I've similar goals, though I tend to be too exhausted in my free time as of late. The 6 series are a bit long in the tooth at this point (there's 3 or 4 newer generations). They probably won't give amazing performance, though they're still used in logic analyzers. Probably great to learn on though.

  • Top row, second column. That chip is a Xilinx (now AMD) Spartan 6 Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). An FPGA is a type of chip that contains an array of logic gates, flip-flops, and other elements whose interconnects can be "programmed" (I use quotes because it's more like configuration than software programming). These elements are collectively referred to as the FPGA "fabric" and the naming of the individual elements varies between manufacturers but Xilinx uses "Logic Cells".

The fabric of this particular chip has 74,637 Logic Cells (there's more element types but I'm not going into those because I'm still learning any them).

What makes FPGAs so special? Basically, they contain all of the parts needed to make a CPU (or other digital circuit). An FPGA may not be able to implement a general purpose CPU that is as fast or powerful as custom silicon but, it can do it. A CPU implemented on an FPGA is known as a "soft core".

What is RV32? Simply, a 32-bit RISC-V processor. There are some open-source RV32 implementations that will both fit in the pictured FPGA and are capable of booting mainline Linux.

  • My experience with my Meyer lemon tree (I didn't plant it and am an atrocious caretaker - I'm sorry tree) is that the flavor varies by size. Big ones like what you've got are nice and juicy but less tart. For something like a cocktail or culinary acid (dressings, etc), you'll probably want to pick them when they're smaller. Have fun experimenting!

  • I'd say that you Canadians do deserve some credit. Yes, it was the Brit's regulars that did the burning of government buildings (no longer distracted by that Napoleon fellow, they were able to use their veteran forces, rather than people from the W bench). However, Canadian militia made it possible by guarding the North.

  • I have talked about this stuff with a cardio surgery nurse. These pumps are effective but generally require regular transfusions due to the impellers shredding the blood cells. That's why the more complex pumps that mimic real heart motion have such interest.

  • The fact that I can't trust the AI message to be remotely factual makes that sort of use case pointless to me. If I grep and sift through docs, I'll have better comprehension of what I'm trying to figure out. With AI slop, I just end up having to hunt for what it messed up, without any context, wasting my time and patience.

  • You have to choose. You don't get to have both.

That's a nice false dichotomy that you've got there. Be a real shame if someone pointed it out.

Do you want to win, or do you want to believe you are right in regards to electoralism and strategy.

As stated elsewhere and implied above, unlike anti-electoralists/accelerationists, I want trans people to not face repression and murder, and for overall levels of human suffering to decrease. Humans are not tools to be used and discarded as your means to an end. The ideology is literally that screenshot of Lord Farquaad from Shrek stating:

Some of you are going to die but that is a sacrifice that I'm willing to make.

Attempting to increase human suffering in the hope that it magically leads to class consciousness and, in-turn, a violent revolution, in ways that have never occurred in documented human history, is pretty much just collaborating with fascists. Even if it were to cause an overthrow of the current order, the data shows that the odds of a left-of-center government replacing it, much less one that is stable enough to stand against external and internal threats from the elite, are questionable at best.

Chomping at the bit for mass violence and refusing to use all tools to avoid it is saying that you don't care about those who suffer most from war, the non-combatants. You know, the workers, elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable populations that leftists generally care about. In the Second World War, for example, non-combatants suffered three times the deaths of those who were fighting, with less than half attributed to the Holocaust. Most of these deaths don't occur because of bombings and collateral damage. No, the civilian deaths in war come from disruptions to civil infrastructure leading to outbreaks of preventable disease, famine, and lack of clean water (the sorts of things causing loss of life in the ongoing Palestinian genocide).

So, anytime that you think about advocating against electoral solutions, I ask that you be honest with yourself and others, clearly stating that you:

    • support increasing unnecessary human suffering as a tool to try to reach you preferred utopia
    • have no evidence that it will do anything to benefit humanity or even achieve your preferred utopia (and in fact, there is plenty contrary evidence)
    • are ok with risking the installation of a fascist oligarchy
    • are not sufficiently bothered by the impact and loss of life to those who are disabled, LGBTQ+, POC, or any other vulnerable group to even try to avoid it
  • Sure looks to me like both Dems and people who couldn't give enough of a shit to prevent fascist oligarchy are at fault. And neither side is likely to take responsibility for their actions in this lifetime.

I'm sure looking forward to a significantly increased chance of my loved ones dying violent deaths because non-voters wanted to "send a message" in a manner that has never resulted in positive change in modern history. /S

  • I'm still looking into this but, "backdoor" appears to be incorrect and sensationalist. A team used proprietary software to uncover undocumented opcodes related to the Host Controller Interface (HCI). This could provide a path for arbitrary code execution, if one already has control of the Host... In which case they can arbitrarily execute whatever code they want.

  • Jill Stein is pretty cool though.

No, she isn't. She's just another Putin puppet to help the far-Right.

It'll be interesting what the Green Party does now.

Not really. They're going to dump all resources into unwinnable national races where they can act as spoilers in FPTP elections while ignoring local elections and anywhere else where they could be effective in achieving their claimed goals. You know, like they have for decades.
