Ok. Now they've done it.
Ok. Now they've done it.
Ok. Now they've done it.
Metal head here who idolizes Dolly. She's a national treasure the likes of Mister Rogers. Who has also been attacked by the right.
For those interested she's in a couple of VERY trans positive episodes of The Orville (one just her song 9-5 and the other in a long scene as herself).
Anyone bashing Dolly hates freedom is no good. A full on poophead.
She's also in the movie 9 to 5, which was what the song was written for, which is about three women who have had enough of their misogynist boss and get revenge on him. On top of that, she starred in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which is one of the few films which doesn't denigrate sex workers and actually shows them as normal people.
I saw 9 to 5 when it came out as I am old. I still love it.
All 3 female leads were awesome, and she absolutely held her own against the legendary Tomlin and Fonda. Also recently passed Dabney Coleman.
One of the many things I love about The Orville is that the song 9-5 became a revolutionary feminist anthem to the Moclans. And that she was sweet enough to make a cameo.
She's all around awesome. Always helped people, always gives back. Always been kind. And a certified rock star! I have no tattoos, never seen the allure. But if I woke up with Dolly's face tattooed I wouldn't even be angry.
Shit newspaper with shit ideas.
"christianity is about hating people and Dolly doesn't hate people enough" -the federalist, basically
I would have few problems with Christianity if Dolly was the standard Christians tried to live up to. They sure as hell don't try to live up to Christ's standards.
Through my teenage years I got wrapped up in an evangelical environment, but as an adult found my way to a non- denominational church. It was eye opening. The more I talked to the pastor, learned and read, I realized that people get wrapped up in their denominations like sports teams. And since the different denominations come about because of different interpretations of Scripture and the "rules" some group puts into place for their team, no wonder it's the perfect environment for creating a culture of control and abuse for those seeking power.
This doesn't make me not believe in God, this makes me not trust the motivations of people in power. On the day to day, I try to be the best I can to people around me, and share love, kindness, and respect. That's my big take away from Jesus' teachings at least.
There are many Christians whose faith does not involve pushing the law on others, but instead focus on the gospel and its inclusive nature.
These aren’t the loud ones who push regressive policies. Because the ones pushing regressive policies aren’t doing so because their religion tells them to, they’re making their religion fit whatever they feel the world should look like, picking and choosing which rules to follow or ignore based on their worldview, shaping their religion to fit their bigotry. They would hate Jesus, who preached paying taxes, being generous to the needy, and accepting sinners and those despised by the establishment of the time.
Imagine what Jesus would say about "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
He'd probably clap until his wrists were sore.
I'm almost certain they've all decided Jesus was a loser and decided to root for Barabbas instead.
If you're ever on the opposite side of Dolly on an ethical or moral issue, you're on the wrong side.
From the comments:
Fucking eh!
If you spend 10 minutes looking into Dolly Parton, you’ll find a Fucking Angel.
Legitimately. Look into her reading program. Not just the news articles, but the written deals. She makes sure that if her program is a success, that the county is contracted to keep it going FOR-FUCKING-EVER. Her legacy is generations of kids who graduate high school because she sent them books.
And that’s just ONE thing she did, with a legacy that will outlast every one of us.
We ride at dawn.
Ahhh unity
I'm actually mostly surprised by the nerdcore hip-hop call out. I just assumed the genre melded with mainstream.
I'm sorry for all the dolly fans out there, but I have a confession... I don't care for her music.
But I will defend this woman simply because her charity work alone makes her deserving of much more.
And I know I don't even know half of what she does.
So if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go sharpen up my torches and light my pitchforks, because ain't nobody dissing dolly Parton around me.
Most people don't like Dolly for her music. It would be hard to get so many people to agree on one artist based on their music.
But anybody saying she's a bad person is just flat wrong or just trying to stir shit.
As a non-Dolly music fan, I agree with you wholeheartedly... for now.
But later, if it comes out after she's dead, that she was secretly harvesting puppy blood in her basement or abusing handicapped kids for decades or some other crazy awful thing, I'll have to re-evaluate. And though I'm not hoping for this to be the case, it just seems like that's exactly the type of shit this timeline would do to us. Guys I think I'm losing hope for humanity. Dolly save us all.
Yep. It has nothing to do with her music and everything to do with her being an amazing person who wants to help children with her millions.
She is an incredibly prolific songwriter for other people as well. There's a decent chance you like a song she wrote that is performed by someone else - if that makes you feel any better about your sacrilege (smiley face emoji)
You may just be listening to it too fast.

I don't care for most of it that much either but as you I can't help respect her.
She was inducted to the rock and roll hall of fame but declined it because she didn't play rock and roll, then they persuaded her to accept it anyway and she got inducted. What does she do? She of course makes a rock and roll album with duets among that a good duet with Rob Halford on Bygones.
Yeah I have nothing but respect for her.
I live in Tennessee. The number of lives that Dolly Parton has changed for the better is immeasurable. The two things you're supposed to do as a Christian are to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself.
She loves her neighbors more than she loves herself. Anyone talking trash about Dolly is the worst kind of person.
Dolly Parton is the kind of saint the Catholic Church will never canonize.
My wife and I recently had a child. We came home the other day to a book in the mail; "The Little Engine That Could". It was sent by a foundation that Dolly either started or contributes heavily to. She chose that book as the introductory book because it reminds her of the struggles her father endured and overcame learning to read. Fuck whoever dispareges Dolly Parton in the neck with a rusty screwdriver.
I swear to god, Dolly Parton is going to enter the Christianity canon. 200 years from now, she'll be part of the Trinity.
I mean, full support, of course.
I hope these people have IBS for a couple of weeks. And during times on the can, use that quiet time to reflect. Praise Dolly. Amen.
Old ska kid. Will bring extra mozz sticks for everyone.
Somebody actually woke up one morning & thought, “Man, I know everyone’s convinced Dolly’s such a great person… how can I quickly cement that idea even further publicly & make myself look like an even bigger douche at the exact same time?!”
THATS. NOT. OKAY.
That's a serious understatement. I'm an atheist, but she's the closest thing to a saint I can think of.
And that only goes up to 2022.
Her and Mr. Rogers are probably more saintly than any actual historical saint
Ah, the Federalist. Too much of a pussy to have been a school shooter. Impotently flinging poo at the rest of us.
Clan member mentality, but lacks the balls to wear a frock, undertips ethnic waitresses instead.
They're lucky Dolly would want me to be kind to them.
Yes, her destructive beliefs, like, Checks notes... turning the other cheek.
Where does she get these terrible ideas? Probably some book they never read. Book reading is fur libtards.
Capitalist bigot Christians complaining about false gospels is pretty rich.
Aw hell naw! First Mr Rogers now Dolly? These monsters truly have no morals.
This was on Lemmy too but very shortly. It got downvoted to oblivion and either removed by the poster or a mod
It's important to see what the nutjobs are saying in context, but it needs to be done in a way that doesn't pay them for advertising.
Ragebait from some religious fruitcake. Base level defiler.
Nope. The Federalist is a major right-wing media outlet.
Religious fruitcake it is.
Had to look them up. Gross.
Sounds like envy at vwork there
Oh, this means WAR war
what is with this pose why are white people like this
exaggeratingly avoiding eye contact and making a stupid mouth expression is what overly dramatic/narcissistic people do to emphasize the hotness of their take, the sheer disagreeableness they presume their words or actions have
it's like "sorry not sorry" as an expression. it is pretentiousness incarnate. i think it's more of an adult pop-culture and person-with-radical-political-beliefs thing than a white person thing, it's the result of watching way too much american reality tv

Lol
What is the deal with coffee shops? Do people forget they can make at home?
I'm not sure, wall on the far side of the room from the person addressing me.
lol umadbro?
This is how they got Early Cuyler
Looked up the article. They're mad that Dolly Parton, who is a very outspoken Christian, is specifically the kind who embraces the "God loves everyone and that means we should love everyone, too" ethos of Christianity. In other words, the author of the article is pissed that Dolly doesn't gaybash. What a fucking piece of shit you have to be to sit down and be like "you know what's wrong with this person? They aren't cruel enough."
Us queers love dolly parton. Whoever wrote that had no fucking clue what they'd unleash.
I think Dolly is who drag queens aim for, but they can't get their hair floofy enough.
Christians would hate Jesus
Its never about "loving everyone" its about "accepting everyone". Those are different things.
Not sure what your point is, but I have a hard time imagining love and acceptance not going hand in hand.
