How Good at Math Does a Programmer Need to Be?
  • I was doing full stack dev for 20 years until very recently. Never needed anything beyond basic algebra EXCEPT for while I was getting my CS degree...had 2 classes, i think, where we were doing matrix math/Fourier transforms, but iirc they were electives...one was writing a very basic 3d graphics driver and the other was working with very simple computer vision...things like recognizing handwritten letters.

  • Nebraska woman suing McDonald's says E. coli infection landed her in the ER
  • Yes, I'm very sorry to have misspoke...they only own the livestock farms, distribution centers, the land the restaurants are on, and they have exclusive partnerships with the potato growers and ranchers. They DO outsource the pickles from another supplier (who only supply McDonalds), onions (at least the whole ones, couldn't confirm a source for the dehydrated), and other produce like tomatoes.

    is this correct?
  • I'm glad the storm spread out a little before making ground fall. I don't have the requisite knowledge to know whether he's making a credible claim about the mathematical limits of storm intensity, but if it is accurate, the fact that we can go from "tropical depression" to "literally the strongest storm the planet can sustain" in 24 hours is fucking wild.

    Where do you go maintenance?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or not, but I got a 22 Audi plugin EV a few months ago, and it's coming due for inspection/maintenance. Should I trust a "normal" mechanic with it or pay more to take it to a dealership?

journalstar.com Nebraska governor opts into summer food aid program after changing mind

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen said Monday that the state will seek federal summer grocery aid for 150,000 low-income children, reversing his administration's controversial decision to pass up on the funds.

Nebraska governor opts into summer food aid program after changing mind

A sliver of good news and a reminder that talking to your elected officials CAN make a difference, even if they're generally horrible people. Mr. Pillen realized that hungry kids were actual people after talking to some and decided, "Nebraska needs to do better." No shit Governor, but thank you for not digging your heals in this time and being willing to take free money from the feds to feed hingey children.

    Seducing Woods

I'm just watching the series through the first time, and it occurred to me how funny it would have been if Zoro was with the team that went to Big Cake Island and, no matter what, he was unable to get lost in the woods.
