This has been making the rounds on line, but it turns out that this business merely grows cannabis at a former prison that's been repurposed; it's not being grown by the inmates.
Are people really thinking the government would spend money to grow weed to get people out of prison?
Seems obvious that it’s not actually inmates.
They lease inmates to Wendy’s so I wouldn’t be surprised
Government? No. But I could definitely see private prison corporations making money selling prison slave labor weed.
I don't think people think the government is spending money to grow weed to get people out of prison, I think people thought people were paying inmates on work release or whatever to grow weed to get people out of prison.
Of course they would be spending money. That would be ridiculous. They would me MAKING money of course
I feel like people are massively downplaying the mission statement and potential impact of this organization because they’re caught up on the mental image they’ve conjured of a prisoner being forced to grow marijuana while being imprisoned for selling marijuana. That’s not at all what is happening.
As you mention, a decommissioned prison is being used as a legal grow site. The non-profit organization running the operation has the intention of using the income generated from this to free people that are were imprisoned for doing this very same thing before a legal pathway was possible.
It’s crazy to me that people were not set free once we flipped the switch and decided that selling marijuana was something that should be taxed and regulated. Yes, I get that it’s still possible to sell weed illegally if you don’t have the proper permits. I also understand that these people broke laws when that’s what the law was. But it just feels wrong. Especially considering this was a once a way for people with limited income opportunities to take control of their financial future, and now the people profiting from this are mostly people with stable finances that are looking to increase their profits.
Anyway, I applaud Last Prisoner Project and I think the idea of using a former prison has helped spread their message. I just wish there was a concise way to explain where the irony actually lies.
Should probably check this out before making assumptions.
This is awesome. I'm hoping that the frustration with this current administration motivates people to start doing things like this. Community organizing and creative solutions to validate our voiceless absurdity through real means that improve each other's lives.
This may be one of those memetic SCPs, because my brain feels really funny after reading that. And not in a good way...
I hate this with every fibre of my being.
Yes, I subscribed, obviously.
Thank you! I physically recoiled from the first post I saw!
#Prison Labor Is Not Actually Used
Slavery 2
I hope this only has ~2% THC
I do not know the legitimacy of the LPP organization, but do people not see through the ironic statement at all?
It’s postmodern meta capitalism. Specifically the stage after late stage where it’s so absurd it’s almost be funny if it weren’t going to kill us all. It’s like standing in front of a firing line, and the shooters are all holding squirt guns except one clown who’s holding a real gun
This isn't even late stage capitalism this is just too far gone capitalism
