  • Watched Batman Forever last night for the first time since the 90s. (Thoughts and spoilers ahead)
  • And the U2 one slaps as well.

And both would have fit Batman & Robin with Poison Ivy much better.

  • Every sperm for themselves!
  • And after unsuccessful fertilisation the images are reversed.

  • Anyone know any good shooters for switch?
  • Well, they're all good.

The older ones defined the genre. They're still fun to play albeit a little dated. No idea how good the Switch ports are.

Doom 3 is slower and more focused on horror than the others. It's a good horror fps but not a good Doom game.

Doom 2016 is the first of the modern Doom games. Fast, brutal, super fun through and through. If in doubt start with that one.

Doom Eternal is the second of the modern Doom games. It's even faster than 2016. But it has more focus on using every mechanic at your disposal. Learning those mechanics is a little bit tedious at first. But once everything is available it's an adrenaline pumping high speed 4D chess. When you've mastered everything every fight lets you enter a trance of violence that's absolute bliss.

  • Anyone know any good shooters for switch?
  • Doom got ported to the Switch, right? That's great!

  • Steam deck for a TV party game emulation machine?
  • I guess they can also reuse the LCD.

  • Answered: Is there such a thing as "overqualified"?
  • The guy with the PhD is much more likely to get frustrated to the point that they're either quitting early or stirring up trouble to "improve" things. Both cost money. That's a risk most employers aren't likely to take.

  • And another
  • Probably written by a kid who's learning English through Minecraft.

  • Steam deck for a TV party game emulation machine?
  • It should work. But if you don't need something to carry around you could probably build a more powerful PC for the same price.

  • How to get good at FPS with a controller, coming from a PC gamer?
  • The problem on PC is that many games don't offer an aim assist like on console.

For more precision you should use the trackpad and gyro for aiming. It's still not as good as a mouse but much closer.

    Let's discuss: Deus Ex
  • I really want to like them. They are everything I want in a game. Open levels you are free to approach however you like, a possible stealth approach, nice attention to detail and one of the later games even had native Linux support. But I never could get hooked to the story like other people seem to be.

I came to the conclusion (based on other games and media as well) that I just don't like cyberpunk dystopias. Maybe because we're in one, Miss Turner.

  • How are engine sounds in racing games played ?
  • I remember there was the possibility in the talks to mandate some sound on EVs. I think Tesla wanted to use the sound of Blade Runner cars.

  • How are engine sounds in racing games played ?
  • That was a very lucky find! I think I found it when looking for fart sounds until I opted to make them myself.

I really gotta find the energy to add some credits. Every asset is free of attribution, but still.

  • How are engine sounds in racing games played ?
  • I made changing farting sounds in my game Diarrhea 4 by manipulating the pitch. I bet that's how they do it in racing games as well.

  • German Dinosaurs
  • Saurus but not dinosaurs I think.

  • how easy is it to install arch?
  • Watching other people on YouTube do it you should know what you want and have some knowledge about your PC.

  • Grim Weapon, Furor vs Arcana

In my Warden playthrough I got a Grim Bow a Grim Runic Sword and pretty early on a Ring of Arcana +0. The Imp gave me a Ring of Furor +2.

What do you think I should upgrade and wear? Arcana for a higher chance of Grim activation or Furor for a higher chance through more shots, especially since it's already +2.

I'd rather not wear them both because I like my Chains and Chalice too much.

Edit: I ended up with Furor +6 because I just like the fantasy of her firing off arrows like a machine gun. Should've enhanced it for speed, but that often means for the bow that it regularly does 0 damage in later levels. But I guess Grim would have offset that.

Any way to get notifications sooner?

With every version of Android it seems to be harder and harder to get real time notifications anywhere near real time.

Twitch notifications, Signal, WhatsApp, I often get these ten to thirty minutes too late.

I've excluded them from battery optimisation but that doesn't seem to do anything. And I can't find anything else.

I don't care about battery usage. I'm always near a charger.

    Android 13 on a Fairphone 3.

Edit: I've disabled DOZE according to https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40204605/android-completely-disabling-deviceidle-doze-in-android-m Hopefully that helps.

    Promising Treatment for Long Covid
www.mdpi.com Targeting the High-Density Lipoprotein Proteome for the Treatment of Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2

Here, we target the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) proteome in a case series of 16 patients with post-COVID-19 symptoms treated with HMG-Co-A reductase inhibitors (statin) plus angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers (ARBs) for 6 weeks. Patients suffering from persistent symptoms (post-acute sequela...

Targeting the High-Density Lipoprotein Proteome for the Treatment of Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2

They treated 16 patients with cholesterin and blood pressure medication and it showed a reduction of about 90 % in symptoms.

Here's an article in German about the study: https://www.hessenschau.de/gesellschaft/interview-marburger-post-covid-studie-zeigt-erstaunliche-erfolge-v1,cholesterin-long-covid-100.html

Can anyone gleen how bad the patients had it before treatment? I can't get further than the abstract in the full paper.

    VR games for lying down?

Can you recommend any PCVR games that can be played lying down? Preferably something slower that runs on Linux.

    So far I've tried:

    • Overload: Works, but I get motion sickness.
    • Hellblade: Works but for some reason it's too boring for me at the moment, dunno why.
    • Arkham VR: A PITA to get working with shitty controls and it's almost impossible to play lying on your back.
    • Star Wars Squadrons: Works well, will keep playing.
    • The 7th Guest VR: Doesn't work on Linux.
    • Alien Isolation: Doesn't work on Linux.

I'm currently installing Alyx but that will probably be too much for my little Deck and on top of that demand too much interactivity.

I really wish The 7th Guest worked. That could have been exactly the kind of calm experience I wanted to play.

Microsoft's screenshot everything feature isn't so bad

I think Microsoft's planned recall feature where they screenshot everything you do so that it can be analysed by AI isn't as bad as everyone makes it sound. It's only bad because Windows is closed source and nobody can verify if what they say is true.

But if Microsoft aren't lying and none of the data ever leaves your PC (which is supported by the fact that you need a pretty beefy machine to use it) then it is one of the more privacy friendly shit they've done recently. And I think they were fully aware that they could only sell "thing that records everything you do" if they could convince people that it doesn't share that data. Guess they failed.

If it were open source I might even think about using it myself. If the hardware and subsequently power requirements weren't so absurdly high.

It's so awesome that I can let my kid paint with Krita and let her enhance the picture with AI live. She wanted to have an AI picture editor on her phone but I didn't like the privacy policy. But Krita AI Diffusion came to the rescue.

After testing it out myself I showed her Krita, the most important tools and how to use layers and before I could say anything she was off to paint a nice landscape. When she was finished I actually got to enable the AI plugin and show her the ropes around that. And after enabling live painting she went ham and added a phoenix and a giant hand.

Hardest thing about it was that she had to describe what she wanted in English. But she's already learning that in school so it shouldn't give her too much trouble in the long run.

    Anyways, FOSS rules!

Can we get a scrollbar for the community quick search? I just posted one I didn't really intend to because I thought I was hallucinating the other one. But stupid me should just have scrolled down to find it. Is it possible to get some kind of indicator to see that there are more available?

    Does Arkham Knight get better?

I never completed Arkham Knight and only played the first two games which I really liked. But for some reason I can't get into Arkham Knight. I find myself overwhelmed by the controls that seem to do something different all the time.

Granted, I am much dumber now than five or so years ago when I played the first two. But as far as I recall they were relatively straight forward. But as soon as I reached the first tank segment in the beginning of AK I remembered when I gave up originally.

But this time I decided to soldier through. Until I got to a segment where I had to complete five or six boring ass tutorials which all showed me different unrelated things of which I needed exactly one to progress and which all could have been integrated into the normal gameplay. Three I already forgot and with one I didn't even know what I was supposed to be doing but somehow I completed it.

Is it worth it to go on playing? Do I have to know everything it's trying to teach me? I remember that it was pretty much needed to learn everything in Doom Eternal (as opposed to 2016). But at least all the controls were pretty consistent there.

Anyways. Should I keep playing? Or is Arkham Origins better? Maybe I should just replay Asylum and City instead.

Edit: I kept playing and it did get better. Still annoyed by the same things as before but it's still an Arkham game. Thanks all!
