Thanks for that thread. I’ve never heard of a Bird-Jones design before so it was super interesting.
lol yes I edited to clarify, but my original comment said:
“So let me preface this by saying I understand all of the privacy and other reasons why the below would be a very bad idea”
Did you see that at the beginning of my original comment? I should have phrased it stronger but I DID acknowledge it before I edited the end to emphasize.
Actually, I’m in the US but I do love Finland and Finnish culture. I guess I just try my best to be a good person online or off. My bad.
Did you seriously not see that I acknowledged the privacy and safety concerns? I’m just saying, I try to use social media (which is literally just Lemmy and used to be Reddit) as if I was talking to someone face to face.
So let me preface this by saying I understand all of the privacy and other reasons why the below would be a very bad idea, but I think it might help:
Make everyone use their real names. I already pretend that everyone knows who I am online and sees all my comments, I strive to treat all of my online interactions as if I was talking to someone in real life. If it’s something rude or something I don’t have the guts to say to a person’s face, or something I don’t want shared to everyone I know, then I don’t post it.
Edit to add after theotherben’s comment below: I definitely understand how this could be dangerous to many people and I don’t think it’s feasible. My main idea is just try to ask yourself whether you would say what you want to post or comment, to someone in person. But you guys are right, too many people ARE jerks in real life so that wouldn’t change. Idk, I mask a ton in real life and don’t use social media outside of Lemmy so I’m probably the wrong person to even think about this.
I do French Press, where does that put me?

Always loved me some Mara Jade and Talon Karrde.
I’m a lurker. Vegetarian myself but my wife is vegan.
Yep, I have no idea how people are able to afford stuff like that! Some of our friends have these crazy hobbies and go out to eat all the time, multiple cruises a year, etc. Meanwhile a ‘date night’ for us is Chipotle and DVDs of whatever show we are watching that we borrowed from the Library. That is the only way we can afford our modest one side of a duplex. And I feel like I make ok money but I guess everyone we know just makes so much more, or we are just very strict with our budgeting and credit usage.
I do find a drink or two helps me to feel more comfortable in social situations (it gets me to relax and talk more), but I’ve never been drunk and the idea of being drunk sounds like 0 fun.
As someone who works with Duties and Customs all day, I wonder how the 25% increase would play with MX being in the USMCA free trade agreement, which allows duty free entry for qualifying goods. If it’s a 232 tariff, I guess it could get added onto the 0% duty.
Also, there are still the 301 tariffs on goods made in China (doesn’t matter where they ship from, country of origin and country of export are two different things) from the first administration that I feel like people forget never went away.
I charge by Bluetooth headphones ‘pod’ with my Steam Deck charger and it seems to be ok.

Iceland or Finland. Love both of those places, from the people to the landscape.
I just say it the way it is - ‘Oh that is Travis’ shoe’
I added the apostrophe for writing it, but I don’t say the name any different.
Reminds me of that scene in Interstellar where a baseball game is interrupted by a dust storm. Some interesting world-building in that scene regarding the state of the game too.
I was rocking one of these plugged into an mp3 player circa 2007-2010.
It’s funny, I love the DeLorean/Tron style, but to me the CT looks nothing like that. Both of those styles have a certain sleekness to them, while nothing about the CT looks sleek.
So picked this up in the recent Steam sale and just finished it. What does everyone think? I liked it, though I definitely enjoyed the earlier portions more, when it felt more grounded than fantastical. I would love to see a game centered around LeBlanc and his time as a PI before Kay returns. I feel like that would be a good setting to really dig into this awesome dystopia that was created here.
Hello all! Looking for any advice or thoughts from anyone else in a similar position. One of our cats has been super congested (whenever he is active you can especially hear it) for a few weeks now. I know most cats always have a low level viral respiratory infection (especially shelter cats), but last Tuesday (9/3) I took him to the vet and they said he may have a secondary bacterial infection so they gave him a shot of antibiotics and said he should be better in a week or two. Today, he still sounds just as bad and stuffed up. I also tried having him in the bathroom while I ran the shower hot and it seemed to loosen up a little, but it still sounds almost as bad.
Anyone have a similar experience? I am planning on taking him back to the vet early next week if it doesn't improve over the weekend but I'd rather avoid the bill if this is more of a 'wait it out' situation.
How is it in 2024 now that it’s finished? A lot of reviews I see are based on when it originally came out but I’m curious about the current state of the game. With it being on sale now it seems like it’s worth it even with flaws.
For some context, I’m not a huge city-builder guy (I’ve played some here and there) but the sci-fi setting and the narrative are what interest me here. I don’t really care about replayability as long as one play through is entertaining enough.
Any thoughts?
The new Framework laptop display is exactly why I love its products.
I saw this and thought, well yeah that VP is right, cold calls are annoying spam. However, based on the insane comments by all the salespeople, you'd be wrong. Like, are salespeople that out of touch with normal people?
We’re excited to share a preview of a Framework Laptop 13 Mainboard with a new CPU architecture.
So I've been doing a deep dive into all this stuff recently, I find it to be fun and interesting. However, I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what all these whistleblowers are alleging. Basically, the idea is that there is a secretive group of USG employees that know what is going on with UAPs and researching stuff, but Congress and the President know nothing of it and have no oversight of it? Is it just a bunch of high-ranking military people who pass the knowledge on to their successor when they retire? Or is the idea that all of these whistleblowers and Congress are in on it and this is all part of a slow 'controlled disclosure' scenario? Or is it a combined scenario where some members of the Executive Branch DO know about it but others don't?
Obviously, there are no hard and fast answers to this, I just feel like I keep hearing conflicting things about who in the USG knows what, and wondering if there is any kind of rough consensus about this? Probably a fools errand, but I figured I'd at least ask.
Well that really was fast. Free Stars: Children of Infinity, the sequel to The Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control 2) is now confirmed to be supporting Linux (and macOS).

Been waiting my whole adult life for this one!
Teaser videos and cryptic tweets hint at something new on the horizon.
Hello all, I am a 39M whose wife (42F) was just diagnosed with ADHD. We’ve had a suspicion ever since our 6 year old was diagnosed and we started doing a deep dive into it and realizing a lot of the symptoms fit her. Even some of the memes from this community helped her to start looking into it herself. She is relieved to find out she’s not just ‘a disorganized slob’, that there is a reason for her struggles, but now the real work begins.
My question is: what do you wish your partner would have known/done for you? I want to be as supportive as possible and make sure I’m not contributing to any negative feelings, and help her find ways to build coping mechanisms. Just looking for any advice!
Just so tired of almost every time a doctor submits stuff to insurance, we have to be the ones to make multiple phone calls to both the doctor's office and insurance to iron everything out, figure out what the issue is (it's always a different issue), and basically be the go-between for the office and insurance. What am I paying $500+/month for?! It's like paying for the privilege of having an exhausting part-time job.
And yes, I understand that insurance wants to weasel out of paying anything, but this isn't even shadiness, just straight up incompetence and lack of communication/following procedures. The amount of emotional energy we have to spend untangling this stuff leaves us drained.

So excited for this - a sequel to Star Control 2.
So my wife and I were watching through Babylon 5 on Tubi. We've both never seen it and have really enjoyed it. We hit the end of season 4 and it really felt like the end of the show (I'm aware of the background issues and also that the season 5 finale was filmed for the end of season 4 but then shifted around) and we were very satisfied with where everything was left. We took a break to put a hold at our library on a DVD of the movies to watch "In the Beginning" before we started season 5. Got the DVD, started watching it, and my wife started falling asleep, so we stopped and just...haven't gone back. I can't explain it, but neither of us feel super motivated to continue even though we were really enjoying the show.
So, B5 fans who have watched the whole series, what can you say to motivate us to continue watching?!
