Edit: I just want to add that I don't think this is an issue that needs to ruin a marriage. In the US, there are plenty of couples who have healthy marriages but one is a republican and the other is democrat with very different outlooks on things. They make it work by given each other freedom it express their beliefs outside of their home while focusing on the things they have in common at home.
That's how you know these liberals are unserious bozos. If China was actually committing a genocide and your husband was denying it, that should be a dealbreaker. That would make him a fascist and worse. But, y'know, they don't really care about that, it's just about performing unquestioning loyalty to the empire.
The thing that kills me with these Uygher genocide fabricators is 9-outta-10 how Islamophobic they are in any other context
These are motherfuckers who will sit there praising the war on terror which HAS KILLED millions of Muslims while they shed crocodile tears for imaginary massacres
this time on; White Westerner ruins their own relationship by not listening to their partner who is from the place in question, and has a far more intimate understanding of the situation and refuses to accept direct sources because of their own political bias.
seems to me the whitey did the liberal thing, wherein they marry someone from a culture they deem lesser so they can "rescue" them from it. Bro went to FU and Yale, if anyone would understand direct sources and intellectual honesty, it's them.
I (Chinese) just went on a couple dates with a white girl and we seem to hit it off but this is actually a concern I have.
She's not Zionist, pro-LGBT and has kind of shaken off the conservative Christian upbringing but being in Australia and surrounded by Australian media, and has concerns about China.
OK how about the official United Nations report? The one they spent months on and libs thought it was gonna blow the lid off the thing, and instead the UN (Michele Bachelet and her team, specifically) confirmed there isn’t a genocide and was only able to offer some mild criticism of China (which frankly, to me read like “well we can’t just not criticize them for anything, so here’s some ticky tack stuff”).
That's one thing I wish would die with reddit, the demand for scholarly sources. I got into too many arguments about racism that ended in request for scholarly articles. Not everything is studied dipshits, people aren't making peer reviewed articles for fun, it needs funding and resources. Xinjiang is a real place, like China, you can really just go there.
This is why we say they act like conspiracy theorists about this. This is what conspiracy theories do to relationships, they destroy them, the conspiracy theory is non-negotiable, and must be accepted, and no amount of evidence against it can ever disprove it, and it becomes a larger and larger part of the conspiracy theorist's life, consuming and destroying who they were before they adopted the conspiracy.
We often poke fun at Zenz here for his complete incompetence in proving his claims, but this was never actually about scholarly investigation, this was always framed as a conspiracy theory, it was always designed to weasel its way into the impulsive and emotional part of the brain, to shut down the ability to actually think about this. The "evidence" may be completely non-existent, but that's not the point, the point is that it makes people feel scared and upset and brave for fighting the evil enemy. They tie their sense of self-worth to this and it becomes their identity, and getting them to admit it is wrong would make them the "bad guy" that they've been hating all this time, so it's an awful uphill battle to get someone out of this mindset. And even if you can convince someone that China isn't committing genocide, they've still internalised the important part: the dehumanisation of Chinese people and the othering of China as some evil enemy out to destroy everything.
I mean, I guess they lost their war with Vietnam (thankfully), but it's more reasonable in the context of the Korean War to say that they are the winners.
Just wait until this person finds out what people say about America's military record
If this person even isn't larping and isn't some kid from some anglo nation, she and her husband could literally go to Urumqi or Kashgar and see for herself
My heart aches for people of color who marry the world’s most annoying white people that even other white people find annoying (I’m talking about Redditors).
