71 0 ReplyOrks are definitely the only species this would ever work for.
Although I'm surprised they don't just make a gun that fires smaller guns that also fire bullets which themselves fire bullets... that explode.

You would need an equal and opposite angular momentum at the back of the chainsaw otherwise it will just rotate upwards and loop around in circles.
35 0 ReplySo a second chainsaw in the opposite direction?
45 0 ReplyGive this man a promotion!
17 0 ReplyNah, second chain pointing forward rotating the opposite direction, with the teeth facing forward.

If the chainsaw generates so much inertial that it challenges your trajectory, you're doing something right.
9 0 Replyan equal and opposite angular momentum
Idea: contra rotating chainsaws.
7 0 ReplyYou can balance it adjusting the rocket nozzle
6 0 Replyjust enough rotational velocity to counter gravity trying to pull the nose of the missile down though. and also the centripetal momentum of the chain would act like a gyro stabilizer insuring that it remains nominally upright.
4 0 ReplyYou'll need more mass in those teeth.
Depleted uranium chain saw teeth.

The real one deploys blades that cause the missile to spin at very high speeds before it slices through its targets like butter without an explosion
2 0 Replynuh uh, make it laser guided

What if you put chainsaws on a Hellfire missile to replace the blades.
9 0 ReplyI genuinely don't think that would make a difference. No matter which version of those you get hit by a direct strike is going to turn you and your immediate surroundings into salsa. May as well save the construction costs.

8 0 ReplyEvery 40k author is tearing up their manuscript right now and starting afresh,
...the screaming chainsaw missile tore through the mid-morning air, the astartes all laughed as it sliced though half a squad of guardsmen as they ate breakfast...
7 0 ReplySerious Sam 4 has a secret RPC weapon you can find if you preordered the game or enable it with cheats. It's as broken as it is fun.

If they were they'd be a war crime.

I was hoping this linked to an XKCD article that discusses the question. Answering the question optional.

Perhaps, especially if combined with giant magnet neck collars like in the beginning of Wild Wild West
4 0 ReplyDr. Bright wants to know your location.
3 0 ReplyFun concept but if only starting a gas powered chainsaw were that easy...
3 0 ReplyYou see, if you fix the chainsaw ripcord to the bazooka and then fire it you can use the propulsion pull to also start the chainsaw during launch
14 0 ReplyJust remember to clean the fuel lines during maintenance as it can separate when left for too long, and press the primer button the correct number of times while loading, and then always store it upright.
5 0 ReplyYou should be able to replace the heavy engine with a turbine mounted in the rocket engine.
3 0 ReplyLike a BeyBlade. Let em rip. And tear.

Only if they're battery-powered. Carrying enough fuel to feed the saw as well as the rocket would be too much
3 0 ReplyOnly if they can reach mach 5

Rocket chainsaw were great fun to use in Serious Sam 4.
2 0 ReplyI think the propelling force of the rocket would far overpower the cutting power of the chainsaw, making a sharp, pointy object instead more useful.
And at least make the rockets hovering, like in the shortfilm Ruin.
1 0 ReplySo, similar to Manhacks from Half-Life 2?
1 0 ReplyHonestly, I see circular saws/blades as more horrifying
1 0 ReplyThat's my reminder to check for a new Chainsaw Man chapter
