  • I like some of their developer products that said... Wtf is with their marketing department? I'm a techy and play some games but if someone asked me to buy them a Xbox I honestly don't know which one is best... Xbox one series S? I think??

Now atleast on Playstation I know it's ps5 as it's the biggest number.

You want Nintendo... Switch as it's a different enough name to make it stick.

Imagine going to but a truck... Do you want a Ford f150, a Ford f150 series x or a ford f150 series s? Now keep in mind a Ford f150 can't go on any roads built in last 5 years and if you pick the wrong series letter your speed is capped at 30mph....

Don't get me started on visual studio vs visual studio code....

  • That is one reason another is one my company does often. See in most cases you get hired as a contractor, so no pto no benefits no holiday pay etc. So let's say a manager has a contractor who is really good and they want to make them a permanent employee. First they have to convince upper management that the manager deserves a full time employee. Now they have to create a job offer, open to all internal and external applicants. They need to collect/sort resumes, they then select a series of people to interview. Now in 99% of cases the recipient is already choosen and the interviews don't matter but they have to put on a show. Then the manager has to explain why the other applicants are worse and the employee who is still a contractor actually deserves the permanent position. Then only then will the contractor be offered a employee position.

Also we must keep 20% of all the workforce at each site as contractors. So full time positions only appear when either a bunch of contractors are hired or employees quit either of which throws off the ratio. We have lost many great employees due to this policy.

  • I'm doing it in python. I was going to do c# since I'm more used to it but python is better for small scripts like these. It's also my first year of doing it and yeah I really need to improve my coding style.

  • Back in my younger days I knew a girl who liked to smoke weed and clean. I would invite her over, smoke s bowl, and then an hour or two later my room, car, kitchen whatever would be clean. It was awesome. Haven't smoked or talked to her in years though...

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Is there a programming specific distro?

I know there choice of distro is really meaningless as you can install almost any program on almost any distro. But I have been playing with kali which is for security people and pen testers. Is there a similar distro for programmers? Like a few ides installed some profiling tools some virtual environment tools etc?

    Google Pixel @lemmy.world

Weird bug/feature on pixel 6 I just discovered

I don't know why this is a thing but if I tap the back of my pixel 6 three times in rapid succession it begins to play my audio book on audible.

From what I can tell audible has to be open but doesn't need to be the app on the screen(for example I can start and stop it while typing this post). Also the phone has to be "on" (meaning the screen is displaying but doesn't need to be unlocked.

Is this just my phone or dies it happen on other people's phone too?
