Legitimately think that they simply did not think the proposal through. It was pretty nakedly an attempt to push back at radical echo-chamber communities, without understanding that rules cut both ways, and in the process of trying to justify and clarify it without being 'ideological', managed to just highlight how absurd the proposed rule was to begin with.
The two big problems with .world's admins is that they're very much amateurs (which is a hard thing to avoid in our scenario here), and that they, like many centrists, have trouble discerning where their ideology begins and ends. They feel the need to phrase things in 'fair' and non-discriminatory terms, but in doing so, often blunder into self-contradictory positions, because ultimately, discrimination (in the sense of discerning and marking) between views is what all rules are based on. The kind of "The law is the law" attitude that people who are accustomed to following, but not making, law, are prone to. One hopes that a mixture of experience and pushback will improve them, with time.
But yeah, had they implemented that, they'd go more auth and right, and I'd probably be packing up all my comms to go to another instance. Again.
Yeah, basically. r/PCM let the far-right post as long as they tread the lines of the rules, and it turns out, even 'within' the rules, Nazi shit is still repulsive to anyone with a hint of morality. Which means the only non-Nazis/non-Nazi tolerating remaining on the sub are those who don't mind fighting with Nazis mixed in with their memes. Which is a much smaller population than the Nazis and Nazi-toleraters.
The big problem, essentially, is the "All viewpoints are legitimate uwu" pushed by the moderators, and the fact that right-wingers used that to shitpost to their heart's content, driving out less pugnacious non-right wingers and resulting in an overall majority (or at least, vocal plurality) of right-wingers and the normalization of their views showing up in PCMs.
There are still legitimately left-wing posters on there. They're just the minority. And don't trust the flairs that say 'left' or 'libleft', because there are plenty of false-flag right-wing chuds.
Reddit's PCM is a bad place to go to, but as someone who enjoys PCMs themselves, especially back in The Good Ol' Days, I also know what it is to like something but hate the only community of note.
There are still left-leaning posters in PCM, as evidenced by the arguments and the 0-upvote PCMs that mock the right-wing. They're just in the minority.
But in any case, I don't imagine many PCM users will take up an offer to join a 'left-leaning' reddit alternative, as I described it. I'd be surprised if any joined, tbh, but raising awareness is done on many fronts.
Whenever I see the admins post, it's always with charts and details that I don't generally see (or at least, don't generally notice) from other instances.
If the American government falls, completely, if every American official is killed, if the borders dissolve into slurry at the approach of millions of Gothic tribesmen, if civilization collapses, if you are reduced to subsistence farming with a stick and a hand sickle...
... the tax and debt collectors will still be on your ass.
