I've found that people on the Fediverse are somehow more obnoxious than even Reddit.
  • So I guess my theory has been proven right, with fragile moderating and even more fragile user interaction. The Fediverse is absolutely no better than Reddit and seems to be a platform just for programmers, nerds and a small pocket of refugees from other social media branches.

I hate feeling like I'm right, but I am.

  • I've found that people on the Fediverse are somehow more obnoxious than even Reddit.

Like, a majority of my direct interactions with some users from all across the Fediverse and not just Lemmy have been annoying. The kind of nuisance where I feel like I absolutely want to maim the person who bothered responding to me.

At least with Reddit, I know I can expect it because it's a wider audience and that's part of it's reputation. With the Fediverse, for a considerably smaller pool of people in comparison that desire more friendlier engagements because of wanting an alternative, they certainly have proven to be the biggest jackasses of the bunch.

Which makes me think that there's really no hope for the Fediverse in general to be as big as the opposition. Because once people see that there's virtually no difference between where they've been from where they are, it almost defeats the purpose of having switched at all.

And that's pretty much where I'm sitting currently.

AOC loses key vote in House Oversight race to Gerry Connolly
  • Same. Every four years, I fight within myself on whether I should bother to vote. I'm an Independent voter and I base my decision by analyzing the political parties across the scope while realizing the reality of the world we're living in alongside it.

And it gets tiring of the same old thing. I go and vote not Republican, I see some of the people in my circle vote Republican which makes me consider axing them to spare myself and they the drama of getting political. I get disparagingly cynical towards the American populace for their collective decision making or lack thereof considering we're pitted again in this mess that'll unfold in under a month.

I look at the ballots before making my predetermined choices - D, R, D, R, G, I in a blue moon, D, R like everywhere. Maybe I could've written someone in, maybe, but what good does that do except win meaningless brownie points?

Looking forward to another 4 years I'll have a hard time remembering because of my mental efforts to block out the enormous amount of bullshit yet to come. Just like the last time between 2016 - 2021.

  • Why do people say things like "I didn't do nothing"?

Like isn't that probable cause saying that you did something?

Pirating Santas, What are you gifting yourself this year?
  • Because your obnoxious obliviousness makes light on the idea of piracy. Like you expect it to hold your hand in every step of the way.

Plus, I am overwhelmingly tired of people like you with that kind of attitude. You're the kind of pirate that downloads and barely learns. The ones always asking if they need a VPN for the thousandth time when we've told you for the thousandth time and more, that you do.

So, no, I do not have to treat you with kindness. Enjoy the block. Keep raining those petty downvotes of yours for all I care.

America Will Be Obsessed With Luigi Mangione for a Long Time
  • Yet will do nothing about their problems.

America is a country that leans so hard on the system of karma to do their bidding. The same kind of people that pray to a God they think the majority, including the politicians, are to behold themselves to.

The CEO shooting is just simply a one and a millionth chance of happening when it should've been a thing a long time ago. Yes, there had been instances of people taking their actions out on crooked management and maybe a ranking member of the corporate hierarchy. But not enough CEOs get their comeuppance.

I don't hold much hope for Americans to do much for themselves. They're willing to lose everything and allow themselves to lose everything while letting those that made them lose everything, gain everything.

  • AOC loses key vote in House Oversight race to Gerry Connolly
  • More like Americans should just not vote anymore.

It's trash in, trash out. Every election cycle. A bunch of old farts scheming and playing the system to get to the ballots. All of the young ambitious politicians barely get a sniff and fall apart during the primaries.

It's happened over and over and over.

Pirating Santas, What are you gifting yourself this year?
  • Dude, what you speak of is just plain silliness. Do you not understand that in the realm of pirating, you take risks just for simply downloading in what the laws say is 'illegal'?

There is no such thing as 'safe' when it comes to downloading except getting a clue or a suspicion about what you're downloading and where it's from.

Again, it is common sense. Pirating is all about risk and reward. Risk, whether you infect your machine or get penalized by your ISP or get fined/jailed for your piracy. Reward, the files you acquire that aren't a blip on the radar of your ISP and doesn't contain malware or viruses.

  • [Serious] What non-religious video(s) lights a fire under your ass to get shit done?
  • Bodycam videos.

I mean, if you think your life is shit? Go watch a handful of police bodycam videos. Look at how many ways people turn their lives upside down. Turning traffic violations into felonies. Multiple felons on the run. Getting shot. And an assortment of other active crimes right before your eyes.

You sometimes just wonder how bad of a life they've made themselves live in, compared to yours.

  • Just me or Xmas (and new years eve) makes you even more depressed?
  • XMas just makes me feel exhausted and wishing it'd be over. I've steadily grown less and less festive over the years. I just can't get that worked up, every year, over any holiday. And XMas is the worst of it because it's everywhere all around you. You can't go anywhere or listen to anything or talk to anyone without it ever being brought up.

I'm tired of the pressure to buy this or buy that. I'm tired of this month long pause with people because of how hyperfocused they are to celebrate a holiday that's been so tainted by capitalism that any spirit left over has been drained.

  • Israel to close embassy in Ireland as it criticises 'anti-Israel policies'
  • These are not the same jews from 80+ years ago. How generations have changed and the well has been poisoned. I sympathize not with today's Jews and today's Israel as I would for the Jews and Israel of generations past.

  • In a hundred years or so we'll be explaining that it's okay to be a billionaire
  • A hundred years?

More like it's taken at least 50 of our current years, we're just at the peak. We're saying, as a society, that hey! You can be a convicted felon AND be president AND suffer almost NO consequences! Hey! You can be the richest person in the world and do whatever the fuck you want without repercussions!

It's being normalized, unfortunately, in the now.

  • When someone is telling a story or about to tell a story, what part makes you think it's going to be interesting or boring?

Whenever someone has to highlight the fact that when they're telling a story from 30 years ago or longer, that they 'didn't have smartphones'. Like yeah, I don't expect someone from 1995 to have such a device and the closest things you've got were PDAs.

I just know it's going to be some old boomer like story that'll bore me.

What are some useful general maintenance tips can you give to people living on their own in apartments or housing?

So you buy a nice two shelf bookcase but it's wobbly and you know it won't hold much. I've recently gotten one and my solution was to put L-brackets on it. After installing about 8 of these brackets at the cojoining parts of the shelving, it is now completely stable and ready for use.

What makes life unfair to you?

When all of your exes get to happily move on in relationships that aren't you and you get nobody for extended periods of time.

While you're prideful in yourself to know that whatever relationship you get won't feel as tainted as theirs because maybe they're manipulative. The thing about it is that, I've tried being upfront, honest, detailed and everything to get someone with.

And I guess working on yourself and trying to improve aren't exactly attractable qualities.

    43
What will always be cringe-inducing to you?

White guys saying the N word and being gangsta. There is nothing ever cool about a white guy pretending to be ghetto. Yes I'll include Eminem and I don't care if he's been given the pass.

What is something that you've found 'defeats the purpose'?

For example, you're cleaning a room, your home or your apartment. And you find it defeating the purpose to dust things and wipe them down because, dust comes back anyways and eventually. It might not be as bad as it was or as bad as it could be, but you'll always end up with dust and cleaning dust is just a grand waste of effort and time.

What scientific study are you waiting for that'll just shit on everything we've once thought to have believed in?

Like, we'll probably find out that eating boogers actually makes you immune to select illnesses or something crazy like that.

What hobby seems to have the worst hoarders?

I think people who are into crafts. They have all of these yarns, construction papers, various tools and stuff. All so that they can say that they have all of these projects in mind that they want to do. But they never do them so they get more crafting stuff and it just eats away storage until their place is practically consumed by it.

Does anyone think it's poetic that in 2024, Trump is re-elected similarly to the same way George W Bush was in 2004?

It's almost nostalgic, for the wrong reasons. It came upon me a few minutes ago to realize this. They go parallel with eachother that 20 years ago, people had the same exact defeatist reaction when George W Bush got re-elected when people thought he wouldn't.

Now, 20 years later, when people thought Trump wouldn't get elected again, here we are.

What are some of your pet peeves when on voice or the phone?

When you're in a call and you want to talk to someone or a couple people, but you're in a group with someone you don't particularly care for. So you have to sit there and listen to them overtalk and maybe you don't even like their voice. But you can't mute them or be rude so you have to waste time until they finally leave.

    6
What are you not nostalgic for?

I don't miss dial-up internet, I just don't. I don't even like the sound because it's just digital screeches and it's a sound that makes me cringe a little upon hearing it. Because I remember the times when I'd be listening to music with headphones with volume high and then that fucking digital screech just blares into my ears.

    I don't miss waiting 30 minutes to load a page. I don't miss a bit of it.

What are some unwritten rules when taking days off?

Mine is - DO NOT go to the building you work at. Like if you're a retail worker, it is not wise to go to the store you work at or the restaurant. Because they see you come in shopping for whatever reason, they'll possibly be on your ass about you being able to come in and shop but not work that day.

    23
What do you think the worst year was for your hobby?

Like X is the worst year for books or Y is the worst year for games .etc

    34
What pieces of software can you recommend that's free, efficient and does not bullshit around?

Notepad++ - This piece of software is a very advanced form of Notepad. Fuck that basic Notepad shit that Windows or any other OS gives you. This one is all you'll ever need for basic note-taking needs. But it does a hell of a lot more. One thing I love about it is that, if for any reason I put my PC to sleep, it crashes, power outage, I can run this again and everything I've ever written and no matter how many tabs - it's all retained.

AIMP - The definitive media player that you'll ever need for just playing stuff (music only, sorry if I mislead those thinking it can do video). Winamp and all the other software are just around for nostalgia (though Winamp has it's uses where you need it to play specific formats like video game music such as SNES with .SPC). One feature that attracted me to it was, it used to infuriate me when I am playing something and something crashes in any other media player. And you boot up that media player and you have to play your playlist all over again or that song from the beginning.

Not AIMP, if I accidentally close it, crash or whatever, I can bring it back up and it'll have the song or whatever on Pause so I can resume. Why isn't shit like this more implemented in software?

Why do people with lots of 'karma points' tend to be nothing but egotistical assholes?

Every time I get a snarky, rude and shitty response from a user. 9 times out of 10 it is from users with hundreds to thousands of pointless karma points. My best guess is that it has really all gone to their heads and because of their high count, they think they're speaking the golden words of the gospel with every comment that they make.

That nothing can touch them and that they're validated so they can't be argued against.

What video game company/developer/publisher loves shitting on it's fans?

My pick is Psyonix, the team behind the one and only Rocket League.

And why they're my pick is because they've been prioritizing elitist gamers over generally everyone of all skill levels. This is evident when you are penalized for leaving matches in Casual Mode that escalates from 5 minutes to even hours. Basically limiting and restricting your playtime on a game people had once paid for.

And I say once paid for because this game once had a price tag along with DLCs. Sometime a few years ago, Psyonix sold itself to Epic Games and flipped Rocket League to Free-to-Play or Freemium. They delisted the game from Steam and unless you had been accumulating anything before the delisting, you are SOL.

In the Epic Games version of Rocket League, you have to build back up everything that was once readily available when it was on Steam. Having to pick up common body parts, having to pick up decals, flags, wheels .etc

All of these are just one continual dump after another from Psyonix on the fans that truly are there to have a fun time and not be a foaming drooling tryhard of an elitist player.
