Fortunately it was when I started learning about open-source solutions

The fate of our future is in the hands of two old dudes.
One wearing diaper and smells like shit. The other is a happy grandpa who is trying his best.
Imagine if this was a action movie and these were the protagonists.
If you forget about Lemmy, straight to jail. No question.
When I was a kid, I used to play video games while jumping around. I'd stand in front of the TV, bounce around, play Mario, run in circles. My parents didn't care.
At some point, society said that was weird, and I had a gaming chair?
Watching myself balloon (and already using a standing desk for work) went back to standing while playing video games. I enjoy it!
Eww gross but moving around can lead to death I watched a YouTube video on that. I'm not falling for that
The Douglas County deputy involved in the shooting of the five-year-old was allegedly in pursuit of a 25-year-old suspect, Rashauny Mike Palmer, who was fleeing on foot from authorities after escaping from the back of a police car. After a protracted chase Palmer allegedly attempted to carjack passengers at a local gas station. The deputy fired into the car that the suspect was attempting to take, and shot the child in the process, according to information from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
To repeat back, the suspect escapes out of a police car.
The officer responded BY SHOOTING AT HIM.
What's the worse that can happen?
Oh right kid was shot.
Whenever I see those "All the companies that use us" banner, I shrug.

Video of his arrest obtained by our Target 7 team shows the officer repeatedly punching the man until he’s covered in blood.
It happened March 30, 2022, when former deputy James Wright arrested Joshua Barricks for skateboarding on a highway and public intoxication.
Barricks’ attorney explained the alleged crimes don’t fit the beating that followed.

Right-wing activist Robby Starbuck is demanding his followers take action against Tractor Supply over their LGBTQ+ inclusion initiatives.
Rural retail chain company Tractor Supply are facing calls for a boycott for, amongst other things, donating money to diversity and inclusion causes, which included projects that support LGBTQ+ youth.
Tractor Supply is far from the only retail chain that has faced boycott calls over DEI and Pride initiatives in recent years, though a rural supply company is certainly an unusual target for the right.
In fact, just today, right-wingers decided to take aim at IKEA’s rainbow Pride charity cake. To mark Pride Month 2024, the UK branch of the Swedish furniture chain announced its popular rainbow cake is back in its restaurants and will be sold throughout June, with 100 per cent of the profits going to LGBT+ Switchboard.
Pop quiz: How much does a Big Mac, fries and a fountain beverage – also known as a Big Mac combo meal – cost?
![An $18 Big Mac meal sparked a revolt against high prices. Companies are finally listening | CNN Business](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/491fb4dd-e599-4864-a5c0-2c1209dc8d6f.jpeg?format=webp&thumbnail=256)
Many people believe it’s an astounding $18 after a post on X of McDonald’s menu prices at a rest stop in Connecticut went viral and made national headlines. (Narrator voice: It’s not.)
Now, almost a year after the post, a top McDonald’s executive wants to set the record straight. In a recent letter, Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, said $18 for a Big Mac combo was the “exception” and not the norm across all 13,700 restaurants in the country.
The average price of a Big Mac in the US was $4.39 in 2019,” Erlinger said in his recent letter. “Despite a global pandemic and historic rises in supply chain costs, wages and other inflationary pressures in the years that followed, the average cost is now $5.29. That’s an increase of 21% (not 100%),” he added.
The boy, who died after less than 24 hours at Trails Carolina, couldn’t breathe in the tent where he was placed to sleep, according to an autopsy report.
![Autopsy report rules 12-year-old's death at camp for troubled adolescents a homicide](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/111b041d-e712-4684-a578-fe1b97b5fb69.jpeg?format=webp&thumbnail=256)
The boy died in February, less than 24 hours after having arrived at Trails Carolina, a for-profit program that has since lost its operating license. Trails Carolina has said the death appeared to be accidental and that staff members performed CPR after they found the boy unresponsive the morning after he arrived. He was inside a bivy, a one-person tent secured with an alarm.
The camp has said it routinely placed children in bivvies overnight for their safety when they arrived. The autopsy report said the inner mesh panel of the boy’s bivy was torn, so counselors sealed the outer, weather-resistant door panel instead, which was not the camp’s protocol.
Before its license was revoked, Trails Carolina, in Lake Toxaway, served children with behavioral issues and diagnoses such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism and post-traumatic stress disorder. A medical examiner’s report released with the autopsy findings said the boy who died had ADHD, anxiety, migraines and social challenges, including “a very hard time making friends.”
The Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Steam reviews have dropped to 'mixed,' as players point at the performance and balance issues on PC.
![Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree faces ‘mixed’ Steam rating as players share issues](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/fc49bfeb-2178-45f3-8d55-558ddb9ff398.jpeg?format=webp&thumbnail=256)
“Right now even with 60 vigor you get one-shot by nearly every enemy that’s not pure fodder (like the classical wandering nobles in the base game),” Steam user ‘Flippikus’ writes. “And the Scadutree fragments that should make your damage and defense increase (exclusively while in the DLC) don’t help that much and are mostly locked behind bosses.”
The negative reviews, which also continually praise the world’s design and art direction, can’t handle some of the other choices, especially the boss fights. “Bosses in this DLC are exceptionally weak. While visually they are fantastic, their balance is totally off,” ‘Chanddy’ writes. “The combos they do are really annoying to learn [and] way too long – sometimes chaining up to ten different attacks before you get even a brief second opening to return damage.”
In terms of performance, players are upset that Shadow of the Erdtree is locked at 60 frames per second, with micro-stuttering and a lack of ultrawide or DLSS support as well. These things can be fixed or added down the line, but as of right now, it appears that the expansion isn’t incredibly well optimized.

A disease caused by a rare tissue-damaging bacteria is spreading in Japan after the country relaxed COVID-era restrictions.
Cases of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) reached 977 this year by June 2, higher than the record 941 cases reported for all of last year, according to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, which has been tracking incidences of the disease since 1999.
At the current rate of infections, the number of cases in Japan could reach 2,500 this year, with a mortality rate of 30%,” said Ken Kikuchi, a professor of infectious diseases at Tokyo Women’s Medical University.
"Most of the deaths happen within 48 hours,” Kikuchi said. "As soon as a patient notices swelling in (their) foot in the morning, it can expand to the knee by noon, and they can die within 48 hours.”
