  • Privacy@Lemmy.ml: What are the best ways to minimize fingerprinting on Firefox?
  • Do you know if these folks actively develop it or do they just apply patches to the Firefox codebase ?

Like do they just pre configure a bunch of about config settings and the pre installed search or do they harden the binaries at compile time ?

I've not kept up with this but I'm curious if there is any real advantage of this over Firefox after it has been configured. If not I would stick with Firefox as it will get security updates quicker by people who know the source code intimately.

Anyway not shitting on anyone's choices here just curious.

  • Privacy@Lemmy.ml: What are the best ways to minimize fingerprinting on Firefox?
  • Both my browser and network level dns blocker blocked the test attacker site from loading but in general there are 2 approaches to this: minimize your fingerprint data points or change them to blend in with the crowd.

I think for the most part selectivly blocking js and cookies will do a lot for you. You can also block the canvas and limit fonts too. I'd also recommend a vpn as they can associate it with your ip too.

  • What would you consider your threat model?
  • Random hackers, companies, dragnet surveillance.

The companies are probably the biggest exposure as we are forced to interact with them for utilities, flights etc . They get hacked all of the time and dont bother to secure their data.

Also as a side note I hate how lots of places just assume you want to download their shitty spyware ridden apps or hand over your phone number or an email.

FYI: Xenia-Canary is now running on steam deck via emudeck

I was only able to play skate 3 so far with better performance than rpcs3. I didn't change any settings in the conf file. It is using the vulkan renderer.

I'm trying a few games here and there to see but It can only improve over time.

    PassAndroid

I came across this as I needed to install some proprietary app to view a .pkpass file and I discovered this FOSS app instead that does the job and doesnt share the data with any third parties.

Anyway I'm just spreading the word.

The text below is copied from fdroid.

"Displays Passbook (*.pkpass) files & shows the Barcode (QR, PDF417 and AZTEC format). It can be used also when offline.

This app is a viewer for passes - a pass could be a e.g. boarding-pass for your next flight, a coupon for a nice hot beverage on the destination, a movie ticket, a membership card - there are a lot of possibilities. Basically it is a replacement for a piece of paper or plastic you would normally have to carry with you - so lets save some trees and reduce waste!

    How does it work?

There are so called espass or pkpass files - you can open them with this app - e.g. when you receive them via email or get an Download-option. The most important content is the BarCode ( QR , AZTEC & PDF417which authorizes you most of the time - but it also has other interesting content like a description - often a time ( that you now can add to your calendar ) - often also locations ( to give you directions ) - just try It out! The app is offline usable once you downloaded the pass!"

‘I find Westerners in general, and Europeans in particular, extremely indoctrinated and obsessed with perceptions of their own uniqueness. Many see themselves as chosen people, after going through a one-sided education and after relying on their media outlets, without studying alternative sources.’

Irish MEPs call on EU Council to demand a ceasefire in Gaza

Irish MEPs across the political spectrum release joint statement calling for ceasefire in Gaza

Irish MEPs from across a broad political spectrum this morning, Thursday 26 October, released a joint statement calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The statement echoes the recent resolution passed by Dáil Éireann, the position adopted by the Irish government, and the recent statements of the United Nations Secretary General, and urges the Council of the European Union to call for an immediate ceasefire, as well as urgent efforts to meet the humanitarian needs of people in Gaza, ahead of the Council meeting today.

The statement was initiated and drafted by Independents 4 Change MEPs Mick Wallace (LEFT) and Clare Daly (LEFT), and is co-signed by MEPs from every political group with Irish representatives, namely: Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan (LEFT) Colm Markey (EPP), Chris MacManus (LEFT), Grace O’Sullivan (Greens/EFA), Ciarán Cuffe (Greens/EFA)and Billy Kelleher (Renew).

In a press release, Mr Wallace said:

We feel it is extremely important that as Irish MEPs we stand together and amplify calls for a ceasefire ahead of the European Council meeting today. Ireland is a neutral country with a proud history of peacekeeping and therefore we feel Ireland’s representatives in the European Parliament speak from a unique position. We must do everything we can to stop the slaughter, the death toll is well over 5,000 now. It is important to keep the pressure on for a constructive intervention from the EU in line with international law.”

    Ms Daly also said:

"The Palestinian people need our urgent support and solidarity, which is why we have asked all the Irish MEPs to join us in calling for a ceasefire. Europe's leaders will meet today and tomorrow to discuss the conflict. The terms of their statement matter. There is talk of them calling only for a “humanitarian pause.” That is not the same thing as a ceasefire - it amounts to a temporary stop to the killing, after which it will continue. It is essential that we remind them that it is imperative that the conclusions of that meeting include a call for a ceasefire, and for urgent humanitarian assistance to Gaza.”

The text of the statement is as follows:

"With regard to the current situation in the Middle East and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Irish Members of the European Parliament, from across a broad spectrum of political groups, wish to echo the recent resolution passed by the Dáil; the position adopted by the Irish government; and the statements of the United Nations Secretary General, and therefore urge the Council of the European Union to call for an immediate ceasefire, as well as urgent efforts to meet the humanitarian needs of people in Gaza. We stress the universal applicability of international humanitarian law, its binding nature on all parties in all conflicts and remind the Council that indiscriminate warfare resulting in the killing of civilians cannot be justified - in any circumstances. Given the intensity of hostilities, and the enormous loss of life that has already occurred, we consider that calling for anything less than an immediate ceasefire would depart from the European Union’s responsibility to uphold international law, to protect human life, and to secure peace.

Signed: Clare Daly Mick Wallace Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan Colm Markey Chris MacManus Grace O’Sullivan Billy Kelleher Ciarán Cuffe"

Shocking insight into Israel's Apartheid | Roadmap to Apartheid

With a comparison between apartheid South Africa and the Israel/Palestine conflict, this doc traces the future of one conflict from the past of another. Weaving the history of apartheid into the complex issues facing Israelis and Palestinians, it highlights the frighteningly similar laws and tools used by Israel and apartheid-era South Africa. It's a dark picture of the present but offers hope based on the peace that South Africa eventually found.
