A bit of a setback for Elder this morning. The welfare person at his school suggested we try next term for three morning sessions a week in class for an hour each time. When I mentioned it to Elder he had a meltdown, couldn't sleep and now isn't going to this morning's meeting at all ๐๐ It seems like a bit of a leap from where he is now, and I only told him what it might look like and I didn't push, but I guess it's my fault and I feel like I've set him back by even mentioning it. His therapist actually suggested that online virtual schools might be the solution for now because he's missed the whole first year of highschool up to this point, but the problem with that is Mr P is dyslexic and is not au fait with internet and tech and I have work, so there'd be nobody at home in a position to support him. I'm going to talk to my boss about more flexible hours (the financial planner in my head says, "but we need the money dammit!"), but I'm not optimistic as it is a factory job after all. Virtual Schools Victoria, aside from when the classes are held via video conferencing, are actually very flexible in their scheduling. Going to work now with all this running around in my head and had to put it somewhere ๐คฏ๐ตโ๐ซ
I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time. I hope you can find a solution that works for all of you โค๏ธ
Second (and my preferred) job just booked me in for a preliminary interview next Tuesday ๐
Congrats mate ๐๐บ
Perfect news for a Friday!! Good luck and keep us updated.

Weird nightmare crew represent ๐๐ป๐ฆ ๐งโโ๏ธ๐๐ฉบ๐ฅ
๐๐ผ Iโve got the Rona which seems to be making mine extra weird
I had a weird nightmare but I forgot it.
The other night I also had a weird nightmare involving zombies, a woodchipper, and a large and sturdy plate glass window.
I dreamed about wanting to hike to a waterfall and then hearing that it was now overrun by giant killer rats. I then I went to a weird "natural" lake but creatures from Diablo IV started coming out of a tunnel nearby and my boyfriend and I had to fight them, twas pretty wild!
I once dreamed I had seedlings growing in my legs.
Hey look, fire.
Now it's like you've been to the festival! Plus imagine yourself lining up for a $25 pulled pork or beef roll.
Jimmy the Guts
Hi Jimmy ๐ Gentle pats upon your noggin.
Naaaaaaw!
Jimmy, what big whiskers you have.
Certainly nice to get away. North Stradbroke Island.
I've been there. I grew up with a few of the Walker mob, the descendants of Kath Walker the poet. Shame about the sand mining company effectively stealing the island.
Lovely, and I hear it has great diving there.
That thread on the melbourne sub about the guy who had the mattresses dumped in his yard really makes me mad that the EPA, Council or Police won't do anything about it. They're just letting a scummy business owner get away with it.
Agreed. It sparked the vigilante in me and a lot of others in there.
Doing dry July this year.
Yay me!!
However it's still June and the bottle of Jager needs to be emptied.
Huzzah!
Train - coughing ppl
Work - person sits at the desk next to me coughing and snotting.
Dentist - kid with chesty cough in waiting room
Ffs. Iโm masked up because I have health issues.
I'm seriously looking at the Envo Masks. I'm still WFH, but Hubs heads into the city and I'm fucking sick of him bringing home plagues.
On the way to school my daughter came across a flock of little corellas. Of course she took snaps. I think they made her day. It's also the last day of term so it's double happiness โบ
A couple of years ago I passed a flock of little corellas feeding on the grass at Latrobe Uni - they were eating bullants. Wtf? Only creature I've EVER seen eating bullants.
Finished writing letters to all the submissions for my writing competition. They all did such a magnificent job, and some of the stories were genuinely really good with interesting themes and ideas and twists that I decided to make them all winners. So they all get signed copies of my book.
I went to one school on Wednesday and announced the winners at assembly. Public speaking is not fun, but I think I did ok. But what really got me was as I was sitting and waiting, one of the kids randomly asks for a high five. Which I obliged. And the girl next to him goes 'Don't you know who that is? That's [my name]. The author.', which is a all sorts of absurd and crazy and awesome and yeah.
โDonโt you know who that is? Thatโs [my name]. The author.
Bro, you made it! thats so fucking cool!
That's so cool and cool a kid asked for a high five and cool you obliged. ๐ Kids are so awesome like that.
They are ridiculously excited over small things and it's so damn infectious. Certainly makes me feel better.
Got the nerves a bit today waiting for a call about the job from Tuesday.
Trying to distract myself pretty much.
Fingers crossed ๐ค๐พ
Edit: A sent them an email to "touch base". Better to rip the band aid off in one go I think.
Edit: no luck this time.
I sent you a PM on that.
Thanks mate :)

Bloody white-ass boomers pushing their way onto PTV. Everyone else stood to the side, but these four just had to make sure they got the seats they wanted... Even though there was only, like, 10 of us on the platform, who got on a whole ass train.
And they call my generation ungrateful and mannerless. Pfft.
Oooh competitive goonsy. You beat me, although you were 5 seconds early and posted this yesterday ๐
Anyways, today (after 3am) is the steam "summer" sale! Time to buy games I won't play for 6 months :D
I posted this right on the clock
I'll just try to finish off my wishlist. I'm terrible at actually buying games.
I get an email that a game I wishlisted is on sale and I just go, 'that's great, good for them' and never actually buy it
My sale was not very productive. I only got 3 games because I decided to buy cities skylines 2, which was only 10% off and still going for 62 bucks.
Also I don't actually have enough space to install any of them because I left my hard drive at home
I didn't get it. Pretty bummed out but there's some more opportunities on the horizon.
Damn it.
I'm sorry. Take Simon out for a beer to commiserate tonight yeah? He did his best and deserves it!
Boo, sorry to hear it. Hopefully the next one is The One.
I figure when it happens I'll be over the moon considering all these issues lol
Time for scream
big inhale
Sky pretty.
Handrail done!
Have to say I am fond of squabbling with the old man about how to go about the DIY stuff. There's never any love lost but it is hilarious when there's disagreement.
Sort of a pseudo argument. You can be both right but wrong. You agree to disagree, then disagree on agreeing to finally agree to agree, but deep down you disagree.
I guess that's bonding.
Edit: Aand the rail in question. Bad bwoy be 970mm for dayz which is to code solid as. No one be fallin down them steps fank you very much.
That looks really good. Much fancier than I was expecting.
That looks amazing! Well done โค๏ธ
Gratitude thread!
Today I'm seeing my friend who I haven't seen in six months (she lives in Sydney) and she's going to surprise another one of my friends :)
Also I was greeted by the doggo when I woke up this morning, which is a rare occurrence. I believe he sees me as lower than him on the food chain hahaha
I'm grateful for, once again, my cat.
For the Monash Legal Clinic in assisting me to get that 9 year shoplifting charge off my record once and for all.
And for the fact that I've been able to get some interview experience this week. (Also have possible interviews next week as well).
Yay to the legal clinic!
He's also wondering if you'll whip out a snack from somewhere cos he's been a good boy.
I'm cooking Korean fried chicken today so I'll be grateful if they turn out good.
Have a great day with your friends! โฅ
Just had a lovely lunch with one of my monk friends whose been in Sweden.
My dog.
My troubleshooting skills. I'm making my next batch of kombucha direct in the 10L water block. I fitted an airlock to it.
I am grateful for rest and being old and smart enough to occasionally take time out. It's been an emotional and tiring couple of weeks (visiting family is great but there's always some grief waiting) but I taking a couple of days before I head back to work and I really needed it. Just exercise, rest, nature time.
Had a moment today where a modern life tech thing baffled me (online access type thingy), and I got frustrated (eventually solved it). Iโm not that old but Iโm not young either. It used to be utterly effortless to keep up with the latest life admin requirements, but am finding that occasionally I now feel out of the loop. Is this the tip of the iceberg? I donโt want it to be. I donโt want to age and become useless at new stuff that comes out. I Do. not. like. It.
It's the same as it always was, just read the instructions and keep trying. ( am old )
Fuck.all.that

Itโs still in the cinemas so thatโs probably why. Iโve noticed this strategy recently where the release to cinema and rental overlap. For a family, $30 would be cheaper than cinema tickets so maybe thatโs the target market. Wait a month and itโll be the normal price.
I have noticed there is a point in time when a product is newish but not brand new, so it might be more available on a grey day. And then after that short window the pickings are slimmer.
I guess when something gets too popular others will find out about it and the shelves get cleared.
Weโre still talking about moisturiser and eye drops right? ๐
Edit: Oh yes! And sometimes if things are getting very dry you can search for a โslime tutorialโ just to smooth out a rough patch.
Sometimes when life is dull I use a product called cough Snaily Lotion to brighten my eyes, especially when I canโt get New Lube (there seem to be worsening supply chain shortages or price hikes of this brand)
You do have to carefully peruse the products as some may have misleading labels or only be sample sizes. Avoid the third party stockists.
But sometimes if you keep checking for stock you might get what you need
Might as well watch it at the cinema. Same price or less. Itโs more suited for a large screen and sound system anyway.
Edit: 7/10 downsides are: run time is too long and Hemsworth is being Hemsworth. Still a movie for the big screen though and worth it because itโs probably Millers last Mad Max movie.
I saw it available today to download in HD via LEGITIMATE MEANS
Might give it a crack next week

Here's a flash from the past
Now that song I do know. โก๐
Home again after Crazy Day of Hell Week. I am comforting myself with the reflection that it's a whole year before the next one. I am enjoying a much deserved glass of wine and some godlike snax (fancy as shit sandwiches from the freezer) as I cbf cooking tonight due to exhaustion. Going to tap out fairly early tonight I think. Have a drink of whatever on me folks to celebrate.
Happy eeyoffee to you too Witch. I'm not directly affected by it but there is usually a flood of work to do just before, and for a week or two after (applications that made it in before 1 July and are charged old fees/rules/whatever that then need to be processed). Then rinse and repeat in Nov/Dec...
It's nice to know you can relax for a while after the peaks though. I'm so glad for the work/life balance you can get in Australia.
Have a thoroughly delightful sleep, perhaps with some warm and fuzzy dreams to go with.
Old mate and I have a date.
Installing a little outdoor handrail for the p's today. Just 5 steps.
Safe to say I have no idea what I'm doing.
I have watched the youchoobs though so with any luck they won't fall down.
Omg. Many good lucks ๐ค
Wow the music down at the Firelight festival is louder than any music I've ever heard from any event and that includes NYE celebrations. Usually the music barely registers with me but it's proper loud. Yelling get out of my yard from the balcony has proven unsuccessful. Stupid festival. Might go down there soon and just coz though.
Rug up and go!
BTW the lolly shop in Melton (the one in Central walk. Opposite Foodworks nee Franklin's) is closing after tomorrow. She's been there 43 years. Just thought you might like to know.
Reckon I could troll my colonoscopy team by swallowing a lego head the morning of the procedure.
Shove a matchbox racecar up there to pay homage to jackass.
Or not. It's your choice and your arse baby.

Still struggling health wise and having to jump through bureaucratic hoops. ::: spoiler spoiler (I went to hospital and was admitted overnight but didnโt get the intervention I was hoping for/need. Just an escalation of an existing referral.) This pattern may continue for some time so Iโll probably not be posting much about it and really downplaying it. Because itโs a bummer and nobody wants to read about all that for months or years. :::
Iโve found something easy that speeds combing but might still go for the low maintenance cut when I have the chance. Iโve had the style before, so I know it looks sophisticated and suits me well.
I havenโt been able to do much cooking or gardening lately but might still go and post to the instances in a bit. Pump up the comment numbers. ๐
I find keeping a journal has helped me get things out of my system. Even just writing "shit day" helps.
I hope things start looking up for you soon ๐ฑ
Caught up with an old colleague for drinks tonight. We had a good gossip / bitching session about our previous employer, both of who we had problems with, and talking about how much better we are off now.
Then I was craving noodles for dins - still thinking about how good this was. Hit the spot.
Love bowltiful!
Looks delicious.
Today is Crazy Day of Hell Week. EOFY can get in the bin. If you are thinking of seeing your accountant to sort out your finances, please do so last week or even better - last month. Today is too late for anything to happen this financial year.
Now I just have to convince the general public of that requirement.
I can imagine. The superannuation group on Facebook has been filled with people thinking about making last minute contributions and being shocked to find out the funds have processing timelines and it is already too late. Forward planning is something many people lack.
Whenever I plug something into the usb charger thingy, it reminds me of a conversation I had with my husband.
Me: Um, it's Flashing! panicked voice
Him: It's ok. They're just talking to each other. What do you think is going to happen, blow up?
Me: Yes. Flashing means danger!
In all fairness to me, he has cautioned me about plugging things into the right chargers. Something about volts or something. I don't know. I don't always listen.
I usually just ask "do I use my phone charger, my watch charger or the blue flashy one".

That is your job - inspiring the young to dramatic heights of achievement. Though stopping asteroids might be more appropriate for secondary school students but you never know with today's younguns.
Funny but deffo NOT SFW story. ::: spoiler NSFW and Gross So i was driving across town to go get a coffee from a place I like for a special treat when I'm caught by a cough and sneeze at the same time. I accidentally launch stuff out of both my nose and mouth at the same time and it lands across the lower part of my hoodie and top of my trackies, Fortunately not all over the car! I look down only to discover that thanks to the volume, thickness and colour it now looks like I've blown a load all over myself. Figured I'll just go through maccas drive through, only to get parked in the waiting bay! I wipe it up as best I can with a face mask in the car, but it looks like I've got giant wet sticky patches over my groin. Someone comes over to the window to hand me a coffee. I think they had a funny look on their face but I couldnt be sure so i wasnt sure if I was supposed to say "I swear to god its not cum!" so I just said nothing and hoped they didnt notice. Nearly died of embarrassment. ::: Coffee is pretty crap too.
Cheers everyone ๐บ
Lol ๐
These things are crack! Ok, I lie, Iโve never tried that but they are bloody good.
discovered I can easily pull my stupid sliding windows out, meaning cleaning them just went from "Damn near impossible" to "a decent project, but perfectly doable". Hopefully the rain holds out a bit on the weekend cause I'd love to tackle a few more. theyve got 15 years of moss and dirt built up.
I'll tell you what, Corey Hart's Hits go HARD. All 2 of them.

Don't turn the blade on the guy in shades, oh no.
Money was spent cause it had to be. Everyone was working with limited information which in hindsight looks like an overreaction.
Doesn't help that we've got massive infrastructure projects going over budget and money is tight in the state.
This would be a perfect time to raise revenue by taxing resources and such,.and sharing it with the states.
Anyway, just my two cents
Watched some of The Piano Teacher last night. I remember catching a scene from it on SBS years ago and I always wondered what the movie was.
There should be Steam life achievements for figuring out things like this
Double conditioner worked to keep this mop from frizzing and tangling. Think I'll keep my hair longish, don't want to end up looking like Edna Mode.
NO CAPES!!
My boring sock saga.
I am sick of socks having only two or three wears before they get a hole. They are not too cheap, 10-15 a pair. My nails are good, I do do walking, so maybe socks are made for a more sedentary lifestyle. I can't wear tradie socks as they are too thick to fit in my shoes and I have wide feet. I have tried many brands and stores.
I bought some snoopy socks from typo/cotton on today, let's see how they hold up.
What are your faves? Looking for some recommendations here.
Melb Central. Rail station level, left side if facing South.
For everyday I like the bonds with the cushioned soles. They come in different heights (low, crew etc). Seem to be on sale at least once a month. The colesworth underworks brand is similar. Not as thick like tradie socks, but thick enough that they donโt get holes easily. For thin dress socks, I find cotton more durable than bamboo.
Snooooopy โฅ
I knowwww, I love him. They are little embroidered snoops. https://cottonon.com/AU/snoopy-socks/137116-740.html?dwvar_137116-740_color=137116-740&cgid=typo-offers-gifts&originalPid=137116-740#start=17&sz=60
Hmm, I have spent obnoxious amounts on socks and really haven't found ones that are all that... I think an old pair of snowboarding socks were my favourite for the functional aspect, but I hate the pilling if you wear them to bed.
Surprisingly, my boring Kmart socks have lasted a long time. I have quite a few pairs which might explain why it takes ages for a hole to appear.
I have switched mostly to men's socks - my feet are right at the top of the standard size range for women, which means they are more stretched and wear holes quicker. The larger sizes of women's socks are often a bit too big and less available, but the standard size in men's business socks tends to work well.
I've have thought of that, even been thinking of buying mens shoes as I have wide feet.
Possum or alpaca socks are my favourite. Super warm and last for years. They're thick though so might not work for you. I think I bought my last lot from Creswick Woollen Mill.
I've been rocking fila socks since lockdowns.
White for home and gym and black ones for work.
4 years on and still got the same pairs
Macpac socks are good - you can get thinner general ones that fit in regular shoes, not just the thick ones for hiking. Theyโre a bit expensive though
It's better to buy good socks even if they are more expensive as they are less expensive and less bother than cheaper ones.
Can't help wondering if general quality has fallen the past decade?
I've got holeproof explorers from the 90s.
Old explorers rock. Apparently the newer ones aren't nearly as good. But I haven't needed to replace my really old ones, so I don't actually know ๐คท
Black Kmart bamboo fibre crew socks. I have about 6 pairs (they're cheap) and have them on high rotation. They've done about a year now and are still pretty much as good as new. Excellent support, and they stay up really well too. I too have wide feet, so these have been a lifesaver. No holes as yet. They do have fierce elastic at the tops, so if you have circulation issues these might not be the best choice. I wash them in the regular laundry and air dry if possible and finish them off in the tumble dryer if not.
Auditing my take away coffee cops since I can get a discount if I use it, people seem to be accepting them again and lets face it tinyest is FAR more likely to get me crook anyway. Turns out I need 2 lids and 2 rubber bands. A new glass one is 30 something bucks, so wanna assume what the lids and bands cost? Yep. 50 bucks. Far out. So much for environmentally friendly. Mrs swears she has seen them in op shops but I never have, can anyone confirm? Or did anyone find a cheaper way to get replacement parts?
I just had the same experience with water bottles. Thought I had a good simple stainless steel option until I lost the lid o-ring in a dishwasher while travelling.....eventually gave up trying to get a replacement and just bought a new one (with an all in one lid).
what diameter opening? you can get replacement lids at biome
@TinyBreak @Seagoon try Temu? I have been surprised to find replacements for some things I didn't expect, and I now look there first for all sorts of stuff.
worth a shot, thanks!
Well tomorrow looks delightful. 11C and pouring rain. Stay warm and dry out there.
All my overtime over the past week clocked up to an extra entire day of work ๐ตโ๐ซ Luckily my workplace was super understanding and flexible and have redirected Monday's site visits so I can take ALL of Monday off in lieu to get desperately caught up on a bunch of other things! ๐ I'm gonna sleep well tonight. Once I've finished standing around with my niece at this impossibly slow check in queue... It has been a solid hour... dont fly Scoot you guys.
Had the windows open a bit to take advantage of the (relatively) balmy weather. Apparently it was All Too Cold for the cats, who are both curled up in the loungeroom and the bedroom respectively with their tails around their noses.
Opened my place up too. Finally get to air the place out.
I have to say the electric blanket was a good investment, better than the heated throw. Because you're able to use an electric blanket under the covers that traps heat and gets much warmer. Very good.
Hot water bottles are also amazing. (Just be careful to replace them every two/three years or at any sign of the rubber perishing. Or they will split/leak and scald you.)
My cold has mostly gone but my sinuses are still full and it's causing my teeth to ache. I hope it's not a sign I'm getting a sinus infection or something, I have an appointment to have a broken tooth with a root near the sinus cavity removed next week and I'm a bit concerned a sinus problem could prevent that happening. I've been waiting months for this appointment already.
Iโm hoping that itโs just the tooth and the pain might resolve a bit when thatโs gone :( Otherwise the Flo bottle helps a little
Does warmth help? I know itโs very individual.
(I still remember the pain and malaise from when my sinus infection was really bad)
Mission to cbd successful. My glasses are fixed like new, got some new socks ( socks are another story ๐คฌ ) , got some lovely yarn to darn with and do that visible mending thing. I also noticed practically no one in the city was wearing clothing with patterns on, no prints, no weaves, no knitted patterns. Just block colours. Come home to Carlton, hooray, bright clothes again.
You know about the awesome sock shop in the bottom of Melb Central?
whoops. Arvo dawdle to get my steps up turned into a 7km 1650kj burner
I have been sorting out some end of financial year stuff and am pleased to say I have exceeded my Superannuation balance goal for the year.
I also received an awesome amount of bank interest, especially compared to previous years where interest rates were so low they were barely worth considering. I do have Coles Mastercard to thank for a lot of it though, as they gave me a 0% for 15 months offer which allowed me to max out my card at no cost and leave nearly $10k in a savings account earning hundreds of dollars in interest payments.
gotten a bit more on top of mine too. staggered the progress I can make if I'm both organized AND realistic.
Anyone know anything amusing going on next Sunday during the day? Scheduled power outage so the house will be utterly miserable. Had been thinking Deadpool but remembered the date wrong. Gah!
City or suburbs? Could do something like aquarium, gallery (Pharoh exhibition is on), museum. Or in suburbs cafe lunch, day trip, local shopping center, pub lunch, farmers market.
Iโm inner west so central is good. The Pharaoh might be a go!
Update: I made some space to give cities skylines 2 a go. Oh boy it was a slideshow. I think I was getting around 10fps on low graphics which looked really bad anyway.
Decided to just do a refund for it. I don't think I will have a computer capable of running it until the 2030s. But given how much they were cooling for bad optimisation when it came out, I thought they would've worked on some better optimisation by now
Can I have some karaoke recommendations please? I'll except cheesy love songs. So far I've sung Rosanna by Toto. TIA. ๐ค
It must have been love by Roxette.
