So China officially stated they won't be sanctioning Russia, saying that sanctions never solve problems, they only create new ones.

Makes sense. Sanctions are an act of war. You don't commit acts of war against countries you want to stay on good terms with.

China wants to buy Russian oil and gas (now probably at a discount) and Russia is about to become China's now best customer of everything the West has sanctioned.
No way China would piss this away for brownie points from the West. Especially since China is definitely "next".

Russia and China together make a pretty good team right now. Russia acting as muscle, China can just sit back and pretend to be neutral. Sanctions only work (even in theory) if the country doesn't have anywhere it go to do business. Just waiting for China to turn off the Everything faucet and completely shut down our economy overnight.
