I was one of the beta testers of this website and was one of the first users, but ya'll couldn't stop fighting with each other so I left around a year ago and honestly forgot about this website. I remembered today and thought it was a good time to make a comeback.

I'm Iraqi, I have tens of dead relatives who died in the period of 1991 to today due to American hands. My people were subjected to a horrible period of sanctions, invasion and occupation that killed over a million. Entire cities were destroyed, entire families stopped existing and entire lives were wiped away. To this day, we're called terrorists, uncivilized and savages. Seeing all this Ukraine sympathy and outpouring of support from the entire western world made me lose it yesterday and I started uncontrollably sobbing. I don't how to explain the feeling, but I felt like I was an orphan or homeless in a strange way. The world has spat in our faces and completely dehumanized us, and now today it's dancing on our corpses while convincing us that the events in Ukraine aren't miles worse than what they did to us. May God or whatever is up there forever curse these wicked American and European devils.

The Ukrainian government keeps derailing plans for peace talks by bickering over the venue.

Russia won't cease hostilities while the talks are ongoing and their demand for regime change is next to unacceptable for Ukraine.

Meanwhile the western imperial powers keeps raising the stakes for Russia and keeps pouring arms into the conflict.

Nobody seems interested in an honourable negotiated peace. Thus will either result in total Russian victory or in Ukraine turning into a new Afghanistan.

Granted, a lot of folks in Russia don’t appear to be thrilled about the invasion either, but it’s been… interesting seeing the reaction to this whole thing from western countries and the rhetoric coming out of Russian politicians and such and comparing it to how America’s invasion of Iraq played out. Seeing weapons sent into the country, the government closing borders while passing out rifles, and the west's sanction's of Russia, I'm really worried that the plan is to turn this into another 40 year insurgency on the border of a US enemy. Meanwhile, people are praising the "bravery" of the Ukrainians for fighting back, when a quick end to the war would probably be the best case scenario for peace.

Like, if the insurgency that's being built right now is able to win because of mass dissent in Russia including striking and defecting soldier, I'll eat my hat and admit they were right, but right now it seems like a recipe for a lot of pain.

I'm increasingly convinced this is gonna turn out really fucking bad. I've been watching the arguments go from "give peace a chance" to unironically supporting a US invasion of Belarus as a staging ground to invade Russia and one dude suggesting "we have nukes closer to Russia than they have to us so...".
