Scientists Found the Hidden 'Edge State' That May Lead to Practically Infinite Energy
  • I too have been working on an infinite energy solution...lets just say it involves buttered toast, and a cat:

My only issue has been, after a few roations, a mysterious portal opens up, and my experiment disappears

  • Homemade tortillas just hit different
  • Are you the guy that made a tortilla press for his 3yr old? I saw this on Imgur and it made my day imgur.com link.

I had no idea homemade tortilla presses were a thing, but I guess they had to come from somewhere before mass production

  • What movie did you watch as I kid which you shouldn't have?
  • Omen, Excorcist, Nightmare on Elm St, Jason, Cujo, Friday the 13th - I was a very free range kid. The one that really sticks out is (IIRC) The Amityville Horror. There is a scene with these red glowing eyes down a dark hallway...the adult in me knows it was probably just some guy with two flashlights, but it still raises the hairs on my arms thinking about it

  • Alacritty, Konsole, or something else? Which terminal emulator do you recommend?
  • I started using Konsole because of the "Copy Input To" and Bookmark features years ago. Even when I run Gnome I stilll install Konsole...it sometimes takes a little tweaking to get it to obey the theme colors, but for my workflow it's worth it. I'd recommend determining your must have features for your work and start there.

As another example, on Windows, I was a heavy Putty user, mostly because when working with remote support, that's what they're familar with. I then had a need to export my putty saved sessions, it was then that I found out it was not possible. Kitty on the other hand had loads of QoL features like that. I still keep Putty portable around for the one off remote support user who is determmined to use only Putty, but my go to on Windows is Kitty

  • Netflix will not air documentary of missing Ohio man that was allegedly sacrificed by vampire coven
  • I've been up to Wright State in the middle of winter, armed with hat, gloves and a heavy coat, once you go into the tunnels though, you will see people walking around in shorts and t-shirts. It's actaully pretty cool (no pun intended), the students pretty much commute via the tunnels and rarely ever need to go to the surface. https://webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2013/02/13/digging-into-the-history-of-wright-states-tunnels/

Obviously these tunnels don't connect to anything off campus, so vampires would need to travel above ground in order to access them. This is probably why I've never seen any while visiting

  • Fully-Accessible Theme Park Reopens Following Major Expansion

These are older stories, but I just found out about this place. Here is a 2nd article: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/experience/theme-parks/2024/05/12/morgans-wonderland-theme-park-accessibility/73660563007/

I also just read that they're planning a hotel geared towards families with disabilities

A one-of-a-kind theme park that’s fully accessible to people with disabilities is back to life complete with new rides and attractions after undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion.

Morgan’s Wonderland, an inclusive theme park in San Antonio, recently reopened after four months of improvements and upgrades.

Following the $6.5 million overhaul, the park now offers a first-of-its-kind 4-seat zip line that can accommodate riders in wheelchairs as well as those who need extra restraints, respiratory equipment or other special gear. Another new offering is the wheelchair-accessible Jette’s Wonder Bikes which features glider-style cars that riders can make go up and down using pedals or hand cranks. There is also a lake cruise and a 4D cinema that offers riders in wheelchairs a roller-coaster experience using a video screen with motion effects.

What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?
  • If you're a chili purist, I'd recommend not ordering chili in Cincinnati. Way back when, some Greek guy wanted to sell Greek meat sauce to a bunch of Germans, but he wasn't gaining any traction - because what sausage loving German wants Greek meat water.

He then had the bright idea of renaming it 'chili,' and an unholy abomination was concieved that day, it threatened to plunge all of existence into the void...actually if you've ever had italian (the tomato based) meat sauce on spaghetti, it's kinda like that, just with a handful of cinnamon and neon yellow shredded cheese...because, why not. Folks in Cincinnati seem to like it though, so much so they sell it in cans in the grocery stores

  • What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?
  • I see you woke up and chose violence. Dueling pistols at dawn it is then

For me, it's actually much better for file name sorting - and just about everything else. It numerically orders items in a logical manner allowing for batch processing of large sets of data using wildcards or regex, but I understand that it may not fit everyone's usecase...which is why, it seems everyday, there's someone introducing a new date format

  • First baby beavers born in urban London for 400 years

Baby beavers have been born in urban London for the first time in more than 400 years, a conservation project said.

The family of Eurasian beavers were introduced to a nature reserve in Ealing, west London, in October as part of a project that aims to get the public to engage with nature, to study biodiversity improvements and to monitor flood mitigation effects.

Project leaders said the fact that at least two babies, or kits as they are called, had been born on the Paradise Fields site in Greenford showed the beavers were "happy" with the habitat.

Dr Sean McCormack, one of the volunteers behind the project, said he and the other volunteers were "totally over the moon, thrilled, excited".

    Chef! (1993-1996)

I used to watch this on PBS in the 90s, it stars Lenny Henry. If you liked 'The Bear' I think you may also like this.

Someone has posted clips from various episodes (just so you can get a taste): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB32A14286F5B026F

    Babylon 5 (1993-1997)

In an effort to redeem myself I was going to post Island City (1994), but Dr Wesker beat me to it by about 2 months. So I give you Bablyon 5 (1993-1997) , S01 intro.

I remember seeing the pilots for both B5 and Island City on UPN(?) on the same day

Re-using an 8 bay Synology NAS case

I have an old Synology 1819 NAS that was the unfortunate victim of the Intel Atom/Clock bug. I would like to repurpose the case as I like the compact form factor. Has anyone tried replacing a synology mobo with something else (ex: an ITX board or a Raspberry Pi), and using an alternative operating system?

    Build Suggestions

Please forgive me, of the many things I've forgotten...this is...one of them. I could've sworn there used to be an updated rolling sticky with 3-4 (maybe more?) build suggestions from 'meh' to 'super ultra mega I can't afford space kraken' posted and maintained by people way smarter than I am, somewhere on the main page/sidebar of PCMR.

I've got a ~6 year old mini-ITX AMD build that I'm hoping to replace with something similar, and I'd used those suggestions last time with great success. I'm hoping to build something that'll last another 6 years. If anyone has any idea what the heck I'm talking about, I'd appreaciate you pointing me the right direction. Thanks in advance!
