The worst leaders in human history will not be remembered at all. Ashes have no memory.
  • Okay, so to be clear, your critera for "great" leadership doesn't include any sort of decision-making skills nor effective delegation when said leader is out of their depth?

If I worked at a company that had leaders making a long series of bad calls at a tactical and/or strategic level, for instance, I shouldn't call that "bad leadership"?

[News] Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire - 2 new character posters. The film is officially rated PG-13

Why are they remaking Spice and Wolf?
  • Not necessarily, they could take the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood approach and speedrun the material that was already covered by the original.

That said, if they did that, it'd probably not be as good as the original because the original's pacing was almost peak chill anime.

Thoughts on Monoprice DLX Plus guitars Versus Squier/Epiphone/other beginner guitars
  • If you care about playability but not especially about sound (can always pickup swap later), Ibanez is the best starter guitar. If you care about the whole package, Harley Benton or Yamaha are great deals.

    Questions about Linux-Linux dualboot
  • I use Mint on my gaming PC because I want minimum friction when it's time to game. It should always just work, never boot up and need to roll back the kernel, Mesa version, etc.

Valve fixes Remote Play on Steam Deck
  • Seconded.

I keep a wireless mouse and keyboard near both of my TVs/comfy chairs and have a main controller I use wireless in one room but wired in another so I don't need to re-pair it.

My gaming PC is setup for Wake On LAN so I can wake it from my phone. Once work is over I can melt into a recliner and either take over the TV as my computer or (if the wife wants the TV and I want to hang out) pull out the Deck and load up Moonlight on that

NVK is now ready for prime time
  • It does not directly affect wayland support in any way unless you're using one of those experimental Wayland in Vulkan modes.

Doesn't Zink on NVK support fully compliant OpenGL 4.6?

Nintendo is going after the developers of the open source switch emulator Yuzu
  • Sure, and in terms of extended warranty and aftermarket parts the support is probably better/more guaranteed on a Thinkpad, but in terms of repairability, Framework sells the only 2 laptops that iFixit gave a 10/10

So I was just adding it on to your analysis. I'd say that warrants consideration, at least.

  • Framework seems promising, considering how good support for the upgrades and repairs for the 13 have been.

Which budget mini pc to get?
  • With that budget I'd personally go for one of these and just put Mint with the EDGE image on it. Ubuntu 24.04 is coming out in a couple months which means Mint 22 will be out a couple months after that, both using the 6.8 kernel.

    [Discussion] Picks & other plectrum
  • I'm a big fan of 2.0mm Jazz III-sized picks in general. Doesn't have to be Dunlop, I just like em small so I keep my thumb close to the string to minimize movement. The thickness helps with stiffness and with a nice loud attack to counteract the fact that I try to use minimal effort to play.

Basically it's all about comfort (small hands), speed, and precision for me.

Troubled Commercial Real Estate Loans Outstrip Reserves at Top US Banks
  • Moreover, no one is converting these unused offices in to residential properties. I’m guessing because the average price per square foot is significantly lower for SF property targeting residential use.

That's part of it, but there's also significant up-front costs to doing that type of conversion. If enough spaces become apartments, the remaining commercial space will profit without needing nearly as much investment, so the property owners are in a bit of a game of chicken to see who will break first and convert or sell low and start tanking the market.
