  • Yamaha is solid, Ibanez is solid, Solar is decent for the money if you get a model with stainless steel frets for under 1k, but there's also a myriad of smaller Chinese/Malasian/Indonesian brands cropping up on Amazon in the $500 and under range that are honestly kinda crushing it in terms of value.

Modern CNC processes have really leveled the playing field. At this point I'd trust a brand with 3 good reviews for a particular model from independent sources over just a more recognizable name on a headstock.

  • The 2 biggest, most famous guitar brands: Gibson and Fender? Most of their instruments suck by modern standards, at least in terms of price vs what you get. Smaller companies are eating up the sub $1k market day by day and these 2 gigantic brands are basically just hollowed out nostalgia shillers holding on due to corporate partnerships, rock star sponsorships, and boomer nostalgia.

Seriously, it's basically the same situation as Harley Davidson. Basically the biggest American guitar brands are overpriced pieces of crap barely better than in 1965 because anything they did that looked or (gods forbid) sounded new got absolutely shit on by the pretentious dentists who collect guitars and uphold the secondary market without actually knowing anything about what makes a guitar sound or play well.

What I'm saying is, musical instruments are not collectors' items, and the guitar market is a racket when you go over $1000 if you don't know exactly what you're looking for.

Anyways I look forward to the big brands' inevitable demise.

  • Beautiful. I want to frame your comment.

  • Koopas canonically can live without their shells just fine. I guess they're basically hermit crab turtles?

  • Honestly seems appropriate for a car named after Columbus. Maybe it's hideous as an art piece? A metacommentary on the horrors of slavery/capitalism?

  • "Unalive" is an unnecessary euphemism here. Please just say kill.

  • Dehumanization is happening often and fast enough without acting like ignorant, uneducated, and/or stupid people aren't "real" people.

I get it, some people seem to live their whole lives on autopilot, just believing whatever the people around them believe and doing what they're told, but that doesn't make them any less human than anybody else.

Don't let the fascists win by pretending they're not people.

  • There's a book series based on this general idea, it's called Magic 2.0

  • If you know how to solder, pick up a Mogami cable with braided insulation and a pair of Neutrik connectors and solder them on yourself.

I made a 25 foot cable this way about 14 years ago and it's still going strong, despite a cat chewing through the insulation at a couple spots.

  • Basically, you want a VPN. I'd recommend AirVPN. You can toggle an OpenVPN config on/off for your whole system's connection from the network menu in the lower right on Mint, it's crazy convenient.

Linux has a lot fewer desktop users than Mac, so it's generally even less if a target for this kinda stuff.

If you want to be extra safe, backup your home folder and/or have it on a separate partition, so if you need to reinstall your whole OS because of a virus you won't lose anything important. You would just reinstall the OS and reinstall your apps and all of your data for those apps would still be preserved, so it'd be like it was never wiped.

But yeah, in general just don't open an executable unless you know it's safe. Video/audio files are basically always fine to open.

  • The probability that you guessed right when you picked the initial door cannot change. Revealing additional information doesn't retroactively change the odds that your guess was correct.

You had a 1 in 3 chance when you guessed, so the odds that your guess was wrong was 2 in 3. Those odds don't change just because you gained more information later on. That's why those 2/3rds chances that you're wrong apply to the remaining door being correct.

  • You can set available frame rates and resolutions in Sunshine, my guy. It takes 10 minutes of research to get this working lmao
