  • Dark City (1998) could definitely fit the bill, it has so many unique ideas for that time in film and you can see there’s of all sorts of future sci-fi movies in it from the matrix to inception, it’s a very visually ugly movie and the acting is subpar but as a premise it’s super interesting. Generally I think remakes are a waste of time and money but I’d love to see this movie with a proper budget and modern technology

  • Around the time my kids were graduating from highschool, she always made it seem like being a mom was this monumental task that no reasonable person could ever do well, just unbearably difficult so to cope you’d need to scream at and emotionally abuse your children or you’d never survive. There are two modes of mothering, ignoring your child or screaming at your child. My mom kept me fairly isolated and wouldn’t drive me anywhere despite living in along distance to nothing but other houses mostly filled with older couples so I never really got to see how “normal” families work or how other kids interacted with their parents, if I ever did manage to get an invite to a new friends house or an after school activity was forbidden from participating. Raising kids though, wow, such an incredible eye opener to just how easy kids are to love, how easy it is to raise children when you’re a sane and consistent parent. Motherhood isn’t inherently a screaming match between you and a child who never asked to be there that you hate because of their mere existence. Sure not everyone is cut out to be a mom, of course, but to present abuse as both normal and justified is evil. I don’t care how bad she had it as a kid, she was obligated to protect me from that just like I was obligated to protect my kids from the things she did to me. She was an early childhood education teacher and I’ve come to realize it’s because anyone over the age of ~4 is too much of a human being for her to handle, she only wants completely subservient, physically small children around because she can dominate them and any other social interaction that she’s not dominating the other person is intolerable to her. She’s a pathetic person truly

  • Ugh that was such a wild slide and if you said anything you were treated like the dumbest person on earth who wanted “the terrorists to win” - trying to explain to people the patriot act was in fact not patriotic or even good for us was the first time I really realized how tuned out everyone was and how desperate they were to be told how to think

  • Spoon

    Jump
  • They do call them coke spoons in the very first sentence of the second paragraph

I loved them as a kid, I was sad they got rid of them, but I never used them for coke lol

  • It depends on the size of the particle and what the particle is made of, titanium dioxide is not capable of penetrating your skin because it’s a solid and the solid particles are too large for direct absorption, something touching your skin in cream form does not actually mean it will definitely penetrate through your skin. Titanium is by its self considered a body safe metal, and dioxide means it contains two oxygen atoms and one atom of the main ingredient, titanium is a particularly large atom. This doesn’t mean that titanium dioxide should be being applied directly to the mucus membranes in your body, like in your intestines, but skin is significantly less permeable. Titanium dioxide in sunscreen is considered safe, it is not banned from use in the EU in sunscreens, it’s also considered environmentally safe, which is untrue of nonmineral sunscreens

Don’t eat titanium dioxide but that doesn’t mean it’s not good for other things.

  • Titanium dioxide acts as a physical block from the sun, it reflects and scatters the harmful parts of sunlight, it’s pretty common in mineral sunscreen. Applying it topically would not cause the same effects as ingesting it would.

  • I’ve deleted pretty much all social media, I’m down to only Lemmy. I only use my home PC for gaming, like CiV or cities skylines or search engines for things like travel plans. I’m trying to be as offline as possible because I don’t believe there’s any other way to opt out and I don’t believe there ever will be. Like opting out of the internet is practically impossible, AI will get to this point as well

  • So many of the “people” saying that were Russian trolls, I can’t imagine actually buying into it though… like if your ideology aligns with a Russian troll farm how do you even continue to function? Like, reassess your life ffs
