  • Yeah great point. I was thinking about that after I posted my comment. Zinchenko does seem more likely to leave between him and Kiwior.

    Daily Discussion - 04 July 2024
  • I agree in general, but we're well into the silly money era now. Plus, he's only 22 but has just come off an excellent Euros showing an impressive season in Serie A. Young, skillful, ball-playing defenders are very in demand right now (just look at how many envious eyes are on Saliba these days).

I thought this Calafiori rumour was total bollocks up until a day or two ago, but it seems pretty legit now. I'm assuming Arteta will use him more as a left back, given our problems there last season.

I didn't know why we were looking for a new LB with Kiwior and Tomiyasu both able to fill that role. But then someone pointed out that Kiwior has looked dodgy in one v ones, and Tomi is a right footer. Not to mention Zinchenko's injury problems and defensive frailties.

Assuming Calafiori arrives, I would be surprised if we don't part ways with Kiwior. That would be a shame as I rate him, but he's wanted by multiple Serie A clubs.

If the Calafiori deal does go through you can bet that Jorginho played a massive role in convincing him to join us.

  • Daily Discussion - 03 July 2024
  • There's a lot of talk right now about us wanting a left-sided central defender (as back-up for Big Gabi I presume). And I'm not sure why. Isn't that why we brought Kiwior in? I know he's been playing mostly at left back for us, but before he was prominently a left-sided centreback.

  • Star man Saka’s consistent brilliance makes him rock for England and Southgate
  • England doesn't really deserve Saka. He's such a quality player and a good lad. He's humble and selfless, and even at 22 he's an impeccable role-model for other players. All after he got so much unwarranted shit from racist arseholes four years ago too.

House of the Dragon - S02E03 Post-Episode Discussion!

  • Did.... they make Aegon's posse from the previous episodes the new KG ?

'They' being Aegon? Yes, yes he did. Because he (and his pals) are all dimwits.

-Wait... is the show implying that the curse of Harrenhall could be tied to the weirwoods ?

I was wondering that too. Also, I found it curious that the entire area around the weirwood tree was burned so badly that the stone melted (during the destruction of the castle years earlier), yet the tree itself was fine. My question: does that indicate that weirwood is impervious to dragon fire?

  • The "oopsie poopsie" reveal at the end of the episode made me laugh. I didn't think they would revisit Alicent's misinterpretation of what delirious Viserys said on his deathbed, but I'm glad they did.

This is why it's important to pay attention to the deep lore, Queen Dowager!

  • Daily Discussion - 28 June 2024
  • Good questions. Hopefully it's only the changing facilities that they are losing for 12 months. I mean, that alone sucks and would be demoralizing for them. But losing all their facilities would be even worse.

  • It's like a little mobile temporary office. Imagine a small residential trailer, but at a building site and with a construction foreman using it as his office.

Whenever I think of them I see small, drafty stand-alone offices sitting in top of breeze blocks and with dents in the walls and cheap shitty vinyl siding walls. I'm sure there are different sizes and levels of comfort for them. And that Man United would get decent ones for their ladies. But even still, it's a big downgrade for them from the nice permanent changing rooms they are used to.

  • Daily Discussion - 28 June 2024
  • I hadn't heard about that until you mentioned it here. So I just looked it up. Wow, yeah that is fucked up.

They are kicking the women's team out of their training ground to make way for the men's team, due to a revamp of the men's training facilities. This will result in the women being forced into temporary portacabins for the next 12 months.

Plus, a lot of their first team players are leaving, including the likes of Earps, Zelem, and Garcia. Sounds like due to poor contract management, lack of planning, and general disillusionment.

And the PFA are now stepping in on behalf of their players because of gross mismanagement - for the second time in 3 years.

Meanwhile, our women's team is going from strength to strength, and they are being raised up and respected by our club and fanbase with each passing year. Because class is permanent! 😎

  • I see Paul Scholes is still a massive wanker. No surprise his flagrant anti-Arsenal bias is shining through.

I'm so glad our former-players-turned-pundits include the likes of Wrighty and Martin, and not giant bell-ends like Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, and Rio Ferdinand.

We also have people like Lee Dixon (who has turned into a miserable bastard) and Paul Merson (though he recently admitted he's more of a Chelsea fan, which in hindsight makes a lot of sense). But even they aren't as bad as the 'Yanaited' contingent.

  • Apparently a deal between us and Sevilla for Albert Sambi Lokonga is in the works. He's agreed personal terms, so now it's just down to the clubs ironing out a deal. Considering how badly he want to shed some players, hopefully it goes through. It will be good for all parties.

Edit: And we have our first official signing of the summer! We've signed an 18 year old Danish international keeper to our academy - Lucas Nygaard. Not exactly a first-team baller right now. But either way, welcome aboard Lucas!

Silly season summer transfer rumours list - 2024 (updated Jul 4, 2024)

    Introduction

Below is a list of transfer rumours for possible incoming transfers during the summer transfer window of 2024, along with some key pieces of information. 'Likelihood' is based on information at the time of last review, and brief reasoning is given for each rumour. But ultimately it's purely subjective.

Possibly out-bound players are limited to those who have seen some first team minutes. The line for exclusion for the list is fuzzy right now (Patino is on it Biereth is not). But it might get changed as we go along. Confirmed out includes all confirmed players, including Academy players who have been released.

The aim is for this list to be updated every couple of days. Information will be pulled from the daily discussion threads, along with other sources.

Transfer reliability sources list is available here.

If you hear about a rumour, please post a link and brief summary in the latest daily discussion thread!

    Players In

    Potential Ins List

    Ordered by last name.

    Johan Bakayoko

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: PSV Eindhoven
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - The young Belgium right winger has lots of raw potential. Should be available for around 42m. And we might bring him in as an understudy to Saka, though he would likely demand more first team football and so might turn down a move to us.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Justin Bijlow

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - Reliable sources indicate the player is interested. But rumours of us buying him have grown ever colder, while other PL clubs have ramped up their interest.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Riccardo Calafiori

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Bologna
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) 🔼 - There's a lot of new chatter from some decent sources linking us with the young Italian defender. He had an impressive run at the Euros and several clubs are interested. But apparently we are leading the pack now. Though he usually plays at centreback, Mikel might be looking to move him into the left back slot.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Diogo Costa

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Porto
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Still lots of time on his current contract, but Porto need to sell some players. However, he wouldn't be cheap at around 70m, which is a lot for a back-up.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Artem Dovbyk

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Girona
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Had one good season at Girona and we are apparently interested in him. Though a fee of 40m might be a bit steep for a player who is unproven in the PL.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Marcus Edwards

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Sporting CP
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - The former spuds academy graduate did well at CP last season, but at 25 he doesn't seem like an upgrade on our own Reiss Nelson. And sources for this rumour have not been especially reliable.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Eberechi Eze

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Crystal Palace
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - A former academy player who we released early, Eze hasn't been shy about his enduring fondness for us. And he's coming of a fantastic season with Palace. Lots of chatter surrounding us on this one, but no solid sources.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Mikayil Faye

    • Positions: Left Back, Centreback
    • Current club: Barcelona
    • Likelihood: Possible (3/10) 🔽 - Barcelona needs to sell this summer and might be tempted to part with the young defender. But rumours on this possible deal with us have gone cold.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Youssouf Fofana

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Current club: Monaco
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) 🔽 - Lots of clubs are supposedly interested in him, but right now the rumours involving us seem like pure hot air.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Conor Gallagher

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Current club: Chelsea
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) 🔽 - Seemed like a ridiculous rumour and chatter has started to quieten down again on it. Mostly because he only had a year left on his contract, and Chelsea needs to raise some cash. But even still this one seems unlikely.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Joan Garcia

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Espanyol
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) 🔼 - The young keeper has had a good season and is set to represent Spain at the Olympics. His lower price tag (around 21m) and a previous connection to goalkeeping coach Cana is adding fuel to this fire. Talk of an imminent deal is on the rise.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Lutsharel Geertruida

    • Positions: Right Back, Centreback
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Yet another Feyenoord player being linked to us - this time a versatile defender. Rumours are that he wouldn't be too expensive (around 30m). But he seems more likely to go to Liverpool or another club.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Santiago Gimenez

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) 🔽 - The young Mexican impressed at Feyenoord last season and has now entered the rumour mill as a possible target for us.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Jack Grealish

    • Positions: Left Wing
    • Current club: Jack Grealish
    • Likelihood: Very Unlikely (1/10) 🆕 - This rumour appeared recently, but seems very unlikely and credible sources are basically non-existent. Grealish probably isn't happy he's not getting more minutes. But he'd be very expensive, and between Martinelli and Trossard we are already well represented on the left wing.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Marc Guehi

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Crystal Palace
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Long been talk of him leaving Palace and moving to a bigger club, and of us being in the mix. But it seems like our name is being used to drum up bids from others.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Serhou Guirassy

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Stuttgart
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) 🔽 - Talk is that we are interested in the 29 year old. But credible informationpoint to him joining Dortmund instead.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Arda Guler

    • Positions: Attacking Midfield
    • Current club: Real Madrid
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Has looked good in the Euros, so of course rumours linking him to us have begun. But his club letting him go at this point does not seem Realistic.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Bruno Guimaraes

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Newcastle
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) 🔽 - Looked fairly likely a one point, but Newcastle's defensive midfielder is in hot demand, and seems likely to go to either Roma or Man City right now.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Viktor Gyokeres

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Sporting CP
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) 🔽 - Been frequently linked, but rumours have started going cold. Could be because we are prioritizing midfield positions right now,or could be because he doesn't fit our preferred profile. Time will tell.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Quilindschy Hartman

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) 🔽 - This one has been a flash-in-the-pan in the rumour mill. And whispers have gone silent over the last couple of weeks.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Jorrel Hato

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Ajax
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Not that we really need another centreback, but rumours have it that Arteta is very keen on Hato. However, the player has said he plans on staying at Ajax next season.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Alexander Isak

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Newcastle
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - This rumour is now quietening down again. While Isak does look likely to leave Newcastle, his destination is likely somewhere like Chelsea, who are throwing around their silly money again.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Ferdi Kadıoğlu

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Current club: Fenerbahce
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) 🔽 - Momentum was building on this rumour, although Romano doesn't think there's much to it. Apparently the player is open to a move to us and we've floated an initial bid. But Fenerbahce want more than we initially offered.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Joshua Kimmich

    • Positions: Right Back
    • Current club: Bayern Munich
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) ➖ - Player's contract is ending and he's likely to leave Munich. But several big clubs are interested, so we will face stiff competition. And his wage demands might become a problem for us.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Andriy Lunin

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Real Madrid
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Rumours we've made a bid for him, but sources are light and the player probably wouldn't want to play second fiddle to Raya with us.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Mikel Merino

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Real Sociedad
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - The former Newcastle player has caught the eye for his recent performances. His contract talks at Sociedad have stalled, so a move away looks likely. But Barcelona are keen on him so chances are he'll go there Although he recently publicly said he likes playing abroad.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Murillo

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Nottingham Forest
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - He's now popped up on our transfers radar, in that we might be one of several clubs interested. But no word that we've even floated a bid. So it all seems like hot air.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Rodrigo Muniz

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Fulham
    • Liklihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Not many solid sources and the rumours have gone cold recently.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Pedro Neto

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Wolves
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - This one has been simmering for quite a while. He has all the skills to make him a great fit for us. But he also has the terrifying injury record. Wolves want big money, and talk has gone quiet recently.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Joao Neves

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Benfica
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - The young Portuguese winger is in hot demand. Seems unlikely right now.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Amadou Onana

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Everton
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) 🔽 - Earlier talk put us as the forerunner to sign him. But others, including Bayern Munich, have taken the lead on nabbing him. And questions have been raised about his consistency.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Victor Osimhen

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Napoli
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) 🔽 - Player wants to leave and Napoli wants to sell him, and his price recently went down quite a lot. But apparently neither we nor any other clubs have submitted bids yet. Might be because we are prioritizing a midfield slot, or might be due to his attitude and injury record.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Adrien Rabiot

    • Positions: Attacking Midfield
    • Current club: Juventus
    • Likelihood: Very Unlikely (1/10) 🆕- Wouldn't be a transfer window without this one coming up again, would it! Unreliable sources are slapping our name as an outside party on him moving. But it won't be happening for numerous reasons.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Marcus Rashford

    • Positions: Striker, Right Wing
    • Current club: Manchester United
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Reliable sources indicate private talks have happened, but wages and attitude may be concerns. And newer rumours say he want to stay at Man United and fight for a place.
    • Highest news source: 1

    Xavi Simons

    • Positions: Attacking Midfield
    • Current club: Leipzig
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Current contract is a mess so we'd probably only be looking at a season-long loan. Talk is now that other clubs are more interested in him than we are, and that he might just follow Sesko and stick with Leipzig.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Dominic Solanke

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Bournemouth
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - There have been rumours that Arteta and team have liked him for a while. So naturally, Chelsea started sniffing around. But apparently his price is too high for them. Seems like he's one of our back-up options that might be invoked after the Euros are over.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Jean-Clair Todibo

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Nice
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - This was more of a quick and dirty rumour from limited sources, and it's now gone cold. Player seems interested in moving on, but debatable whether we go for another centreback right now.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Ivan Toney

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Brentford
    • Likelihood: Possible (3/10) ➖ - There have been sporadic rumours on him for ages. Fee has apparently been reduced since he's now in the final year of his contract. But attitude might be a concern. And we may not be going for a main striker at all now.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Viktor Tsygankov

    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Not many resources to substantiate this yet. and the rumour has now gone very cold.

    Nico Williams

    • Positions: Left Wing
    • Current club: Athletic Bilbao
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - This rumour has been rumbling on for months. The young winger is wanted by several big clubs, especially after impressing during the Euros. But he's been reticent to discuss his future until after the Euros, and allegedly he has very high wage demands.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Edon Zhegrova

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Lille
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) 🆕 - The Kosovan winger is now being linked to us as a potential new arrival. Not much to go on right now, but his contract with Lille is good until 2026, so they would presumably demand a decent fee. This rumour seems more like idle conjecture at this point.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Joshua Zirkzee

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Bologna
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - According to the latest rumours, it's down to between us and Man United, with the latter being more keen on him. Though no clubs seem to have submitted formal bids yet.

    Players Out

    Potential Outs List

    Ordered by last name.

    Gabriel Jesus

    • Positions: Striker
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) - Highly regarded by Arteta, and chances of leaving lessen the longer we don't sign a new striker. But he might be available for the right price.

    Jakub Kiwior

    • Positions: Left Back, Central Defence
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) - He's coveted by some Serie A teams. It's possible his future is closely tied to us bring in Calafiori, though Zinchenko seems a bit more likely to leave if we land the Italian.

    Albert Sambi Lokonga

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Likelihood: Likely (8/10) - Failed to live up to expectations, and wants to move on. Luton would love to sign him permanently, but wages and fee seem an issue. A loan with a permanent obligation with Sevilla is apparently in the works.

    Reiss Nelson

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Likelihood: Very likely (9/10) - Player really wants to leave us, and has several suitors, including West Ham and Brighton. This seems like an inevitability.

    Eddie Nketiah

    • Positions: Striker
    • Likelihood: Likely (8/10) - Widely expected to be moved on for the right price, especially if we bring in a new striker. Fulham, Palace or Ipswich are rumoured destinations for him. Though we will probably be demanding at least 45m.

    Charlie Patino

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Likelihood: Very likely (9/10) - Contract now only has 1 year left and player wants to move on, so it's highly likely we will look to sell him now, probably for a reduced amount. Some Italian clubs are interested in him due to his Italian heritage.

    Thomas Partey

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) - Wants to stay and might require a large fee, but has been hindered by injuries, has fallen down the pecking order. Seems to be coveted by Saudi clubs, but no deal is apparently close.

    Aaron Ramsdale

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) - Displaced for starting keeper by Raya and too good to rot on the bench. But there are not many suitors due to his price and wages.

    Emile Smith Rowe

    • Positions: Left Wing, Attacking Midfield
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) - Too good to rot on the bench, but progress has been hampered by injuries. He has suitors, with Fulham and Palace both interested. But latest rumours are that he really wants to stay with us.

    Nuno Tavares

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) - Failed to live up to expectations. But not many suitors have emerged.

    Kieran Tierney

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Likelihood: Very unlikely (1/10) - Doesn't fit into Arteta's style of play but too good to sit on the bench. However, he's not going anywhere after his unfortunate Euro injury.

    Fabio Vieira

    • Positions: Right Wing, Attacking Midfield
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) - Hasn't been consistent enough to push on for a starting XI position, partly due to enduring injuries. And there are rumours he is unhappy and could move back to Portugal, especially if ESR stays.

    Oleksandr Zinchenko

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) - If we bring in a new left back, like Calafiori, we will likely try to sell the Ukrainian. Kompany's Bayern Munich have sounded interested in buying him.

Ornstein: Arsenal summer recruitment will have specific focus

In addition to bringing in some players who can slot right into the first team's starting XI, Ornstein predicts we will be putting a lot of focus on recruiting for the older end of the Academy. While there are a handful of phenomenal prospects emerging from our academy, there's a feeling that they need young players of a similar skill level around them to help them grow and then with provide real competition. And we also need to improve our loan placements, with only Okonkwo and Biereth having excellent loan spells this season. And Okonkwo will be out of contract and moving on soon.

Ian Wright announces he is stepping down from Match Of The Day

Best of luck to our Uncle Ian. He's a fantastic pundit and presenter, not to mention an all-around wonderful guy, and one of our biggest advocates in the media. His analysis on the show will be missed, but at least he's still present in other media forms. Legend of a player, legend of a man.
