Boat work update.
  • Thanks, I think I get it. There’s a lot of humidity where I live too, so while not at the same scale, the problems are at least relatable. Best of luck with the project, it sounds like a cool but lengthy and complex journey that can really pay off!

  • Boat work update.
  • Oh! The “brassic” guy! I don’t have much help to offer, but I didn’t know that term, had to look it up and found the tv show :D so thank you.

A tiny bit of potential help: you mention wanting to use desiccant in the boat. I’m obviously not an expert, but it sounds like a bad idea, as the stuff absorbs water… but maybe you mean in small amounts, so that wouldn’t make a difference.

  • Here's the most played Steam Deck games for October 2024
  • If you have other ways to play a game, consider buying it regardless of the rating for the Steam Deck. Sometimes verified games update in a way that makes them way too hardware intensive, others might actually be playable regardless of what they say and the only real way to find out, is to try. For example, I wanted to try it so I setup Steam VR on the Deck, added ALVR, set it to minimum resolution and fps… I mean, Taskmaster VR worked. I had to make the resolution inside Steam VR all the way down, and it keeps a shaky 60 fps (doesn’t bother me, others could get motion sickness) but it was playable. Obviously it was docked, so 100% just curiously as on the other side of the desk there’s my actual gaming computer, but…

  • My understanding is that oleds are a weird beast. Since there’s no backlight, each pixel can be considered a small colored light, if you have a fully black screen, then it’s essentially off and not using any power. However, there are instances where the peak brightness is limited to a small portion of the screen, because blasting the entire thing of full brightness white would pass the power supply capacity…

That said, let me stress this: it’s my understanding. Not a hard fact, I might be wrong or just basing things on old information.

  • Apex Legends is taking away its support for the Steam Deck and Linux
  • I am convinced that kernel AC is… mostly on games that have a fuckton of cosmetics. Let’s see, who’s against Linux specifically? Destiny, even if it was in Stadia and that was Linux. Fortnite. Ubisoft has it on juuuuuust a select few games, everything else they’re happy to see on every platform.

They don’t care about cheaters, they’re protecting the micro transactions.

  • Asking the real questions
  • Fair, but neither is the regular kind. Generally speaking, lasagna, tagliatelle: eggs. Spaghetti, fusilli, penne and so on: no eggs.

Edit: actually, might be worth pointing out that this is in Italy. It’s true that recipes can change wildly in different countries…

  • Asking the real questions
  • Going with no, at least if you require the “pasta” to be the same thing for both, ingredients wise.

Please notice how the spaghetti have no egg (uovo) in the ingredients, as opposed to the lasagna.

  • Any advice for generating reproducible images across devices?
  • I have a few examples that I hope retain their metadata.

Seed mode is… basically, I stopped using Automatic1111 a long time ago and kinda lost track of what goes on there but in the app I use (Draw Things) there’s a seed mode called Scale Alike. Could be exclusive, could be the standard everywhere for what I know. It does what it says, changing resolution will keep things looking close enough.

Edit: obviously at some point they had to lose the bloody metadata….

  • Any advice for generating reproducible images across devices?
  • “Better quality” is an interesting concept. Increasing steps, depending in the sampler, changes the image. The seed mode usually changes image with changes in size.

So, what exactly do you mean with “better quality”?

  • FSR 4 has been in development for 9-12 months already, and one of the biggest focuses is improving battery life for handhelds
  • The thing with “AI” or better still, ML cores, is that they’re very specialized. Apple hasn’t been slapping ML cores in all of their cpus since the iPhone 8 because they are super powerful, it’s because they can do some things (that the hardware would have no problem doing anyway) by sipping power. You don’t have to think about AI as in the requirements for huge LLM like ChatGPT that require data centers, think about it like a hardware video decoder: This thing could play easily 1080p video! Or, going with raw cpu power rather than hardware decoding, 480p. It’s why you can watch hours of videos on your phone, but try doing anything that hits the cpu and the battery melts.

Edit: my example has been bothering me for days now. I want to clarify to avoid any possible misunderstanding that hardware video decoding has nothing to do with AI, it’s just another very specialized chip.

  • Anyone here plays World of Tanks on console?

Because ohhhh, yeah, we’re finally getting the Star Trek event! https://modernarmor.worldoftanks.com/en/cms/news/star-trek-challenge/

GeForce Now on the Quest, just Side Quest the apk

As per the title, you can just Side Quest the apk, open it, do the login, connect a Bluetooth controller and enjoy. It’s just a big screen, but it’s nice. Also very, very easy to do! I remember when doing this for Stadia it required fiddling a little and, crucially as it was before the support for Bluetooth controllers, Stadia was the only option because the controller was WiFi lol.

As a bonus you could install a browser (here’s my pick https://vivaldi.com/android/ ) and in the future just download apk with that.

I decided to tidy up the photo on my phone

You good folks produce so many memes that my phone now can recognize nearly the entire cast of all Star Trek…

Anybody else with garbage wifi performance since V54?

I made the mistake of updating from 53 to 54 back when it dropped, and since then... let's say that if an activity involves the wifi, I am better off not doing it. Updating apps? lol no. Using the store? The video previews take over half a minute to start playing, and almost immediately stop to buffer again. AirLink / Virtual Desktop? Terrible, TERRIBLE idea. It's not my connection or the network hardware as I tested it on a different network and nothing changed. I've contacted support a few minutes ago, I doubt it will help.

"Undetermined" language seems to prevent seeing content in other languages.

As a noob this is likely me, but I tried to start a community on another server and I can't see the post (my other account used to make said community) made and set as english. Unless it's just me being a noob, that can't be good. A cursory look seems to confirm that I can't see anything aside from "Undetermined".
