He also previously said he's not going to donate to Trump. This is just a PR stunt, we must continue to up the pressure against Elon Musk. Keep boycotting Tesla, keep boycotting Twitter, boycott Starlink if you can (maybe if you are just on the edge of cell phone reception a parabolic antenna could help you switch to fixed wireless or 5G internet which would likely be cheaper and faster than Starlink). The stock was recently above $360, now it's down to about $346 at the time of writing, I can't predict the future but my feeling is that it will fall and eventually not ever come back up this high so if you or someone you know is holding Tesla stocks it will likely be a good time to divest.
TIL Big right-wing donor British American Tobacco actively made efforts to market and sell its products in unstable, deeply impoverished nations and conflict zones and sold cigarettes to North Korea
What a weak man. Shows that when conservatives call people "snowflake", it's just projection.
There's going to be huge protests on June 14. I believe protests are just one component. I think what people should be doing is trying to beat the pillars of support that are holding Trump up. For example boycotting his top donors, educating people on things like media literacy and trying to reach people who are not informed on what's going on. Getting his poll numbers way down especially among Republicans would have a big impact on stopping him.
That's a huge shame. I wonder if the issue is the articles about what's happening with Trump are in English and not making it to Portugal.
I'm sorry but I disagree, I think we can make it through. It's not going to be easy but if we unite and fight together we can stop this madness. If we split up it's going to screw all the Democrats and normal people who are stuck living in red states for reasons such as can't afford to move.
I think it depends on the person how they react.
These are some interesting articles: https://mhanational.org/resources/negative-news-coverage-and-mental-health/
I sometimes (jokingly) wonder if Hospitals show Fox News to try to get repeat business, and I don't mean repeat business due to people who enjoy Fox coming back, I mean due to health complications caused by the stress of watching it.
We must increase our pressure against Elon Musk. Until he's bankrupt or behind bars he's still a huge threat to our country. Boycott all his companies. Sell your Tesla stock (it's high right now I can't predict the future but maybe it's peaked right now), stop using Twitter if you use it. Contact pension funds and demand they divest from Tesla.
For Starlink If you think it's the only choice for you maybe if you're just on the edge of cell phone reception you can use a parabolic antenna to get a reliable signal for 5g internet. This will likely be lower cost than Starlink. OneWeb has a competing service but they don't sell directly, I'm not sure how you can switch to OneWeb. Project Kuiper just launched their first satellites about a month ago. AST SpaceMobile might be an option too. If those options aren't available to you I predict there will be more alternatives for Starlink within the coming years.
“This is what was done in the United States as soon as the scandal broke, to save thousands of lives. We’re talking about thousands of asthma cases, hundreds of thousands of days not worked for the economy. It’s worth it. We must act.”
Finally we did something right.
But Google’s guidance was also telling us that recovery was possible if we just “removed” our “unhelpful” on-page content:
This is very chilling because it means websites will delete content. If the internet archive didn't grab it in time it means knowledge is gone forever. An algorithm is not going to always be accurate in determining what is helpful.
For those people they should all contact the government agencies that are still on Twitter and demand they switch to Bluesky.
Individual responsibility: a red herring that lets the fossil fuel industry off the climate catastrophe hook
I read about the Flipper Zero and it seems really awesome! I even saw some high power LEDs for it that could in theory change the channel from a long distance.
That's right but it doesn't necessarily mean that access is impossible, just need the codes for the box instead of the TV assuming it has an infrared sensor on the box.
GSMarena has specs for most smartphones including infrared (listed under connectivity).
Here's a link to a search showing all phones in their database with IR: https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?chkInfrared=selected note I haven't checked accuracy or completeness, it might be best to check the specs for your phone or search if your phone supports it.
If you got an old phone or an old PDA it might have IR if your current one doesn't.
The TV-B-Gone is really cool especially because it's so small but of course it just shuts off the TV. I've seen a few keychain sized universal remotes that have buttons.
I just wrote a comment in reply to someone suggesting unplugging the TV: https://lemm.ee/post/65246982/20771041
Basically it's nice that you get peace and quiet but turning it off is more noticeable.
That's really annoying. Do you think they'd notice you using your phone to change the station and possible remove Fox from the channel list? Is there windows in the building with the TVs? There are some high power IR blasters that might let you change it from outside.
There are pros and cons to that.
Advantage is of course you get peace and quiet like that. No TV might feel more relaxing.
Downside is someone might plug the TV in again which will turn it back on to Fox. Changing the channel means you can show unbiased news and maybe if for example you change the station to PBS, people will get educated. People might leave it on the channel you changed it to due to apathy. A TV that's off is more noticeable.
I'd recommend if it's possible especially if you're the only one in the room at the time consider going into the channel editor and removing Fox News and other propaganda stations from the channel list.
We have the power to fight back! Contact politicians in your country and demand a faster transition to renewable energy. The economic harms caused by climate change are far greater than the cost of switching to renewable energy.
One possible idea I had is to take advantage of global anti-Trump sentiment and urge countries especially those hit hard by Trump's tariffs to fight back by buying less fossil fuels especially less fossil fuels from the U.S. I'm not sure if people from other countries understand just how influential the U.S. fossil fuel industry is in electing Trump and Republicans. It's similar to how people are (unfortunately too slowly it seems) moving away from buying Russian fossil fuels.
So when you boycott fossil fuels you're stopping authoritarian regimes and saving the planet.
Totally agree here, another good reason to cancel your Spotify account.
I’m A Psychologist Who Specializes In Narcissists. Here’s What We Need To Do To Stop Trump.
TIL The Legatum Institute has attracted controversy as a result of its opaque, offshore funding. They promote "free-markets" and promoted Brexit.
No cash for trash! Boycott the top Republican/Trump donors!
