  • These are very early stage developments. I think the bigger takeaway is the Intel C series dGPUs are indeed happening.

  • IMO Pixel would find it hard to survive due to their extremely limited geographic distribution compared to Samsung, Apple and many Chinese smartphone OEMs.

Their TPU and semiconductor business may be in a better position, but at least with Tensor SoC, the team has never worked with 3rd party clients and this is a whole different ball game from an internal only approach.

No idea about their IoT business. I don't use commercial IoT solutions (Raspberry Pi all the way).

  • However, Intel has not yet fully committed to using the new tool in production, but it has an alternative production flow of its 14A node that uses standard Low-NA EUV as a backup plan.

This does not inspire confidence, but it's good that the this seems to have minimal impact on customer design (design are compatible across both processes).

Intel hedges its bet for High-NA EUV with the 14A process node — an alternate Low-NA technique has identical yield and design rules

  • Sure, but with China everyone more less knew this. The US has used up the last benefit of the doubt that they had in the past 5 months.

  • It makes sense for Chinese smartphone OEMs to move away from the Google version of Android. In the medium to long term you are setting up yourself for failure if you are reliant on an American company.

Unfortunately, the United States cannot be trusted.

  • F-Droid has the potential to make a much a bigger impact on a relative basis. Most people with still use default app stores, but I think F-Droid still has a long way even among semi-technical audiences.

  • Lots of interesting development from Intel. It's the first time I've heard of them building out mature node product lines with UMC.

Intel has already shared early versions of the Process Design Kit (PDK), a set of data, documentation, and design rules that enables the design and validation of a processor design, with its lead 14A customers. Intel states that multiple customers have already indicated their intention to build chips using the 14A process node.

But it seems they have no customers for 18A or the specialized 18A nodes.

  • This is a pretty big development for Samsung's semiconductor foundry if the product is competitive.

They haven't had a major win like this in a while.

  • I've never dealt with artwork in DVDs, but from my understanding you would need to find a DVD (VOB) demuxer that supports artwork.
