I can't spend the time here that this community really needs, so I am looking for another mod or two to add to the team. We've got one other mod right now who is great but another couple to step in and be active in the community would be great. Let me know why you'd make a great mod below!
So, from now on: All links to Twitter, X, or any alternative version such as Nitter, Xitter, etc. are no longer allowed. The only exception will be screenshots in the event that the news cannot be sourced elsewhere.
Please report posts containing these links so that mods can remove them.
The long-term reason is that the platform as a whole is becoming more and more (arguably already is) a safe haven for fascism, racism, xenophobia, anti-lgb
Honestly, we probably should have done this sooner, but the second best time is now. Links to Twitter, X, or any other alternative such as Nitter, Xitter, etc are now banned.
Please report all twitter/X posts to the Mods for immediate removal.
The only exception we will allow will be screenshots in the event that the associated news cannot be sourced elsewhere.
The rules for this community will be amended to reflect this change in policy.
Edit: To answer "why?" I will paste below a copy of my reply to another comment:
The long-term reason is that the platform as a whole is becoming more and more (arguably already is) a safe haven for fascism, racism, xenophobia, anti-lgbtqia+, etc.
The acute reason is Elon giving Nazi salutes at the inauguration being the final straw. This community will not support Nazism or fascism in any way whatsoever.
Previously we showed a preference for links to Nitter or Xitter but it wasn't a rule. Now we reject the platform in all of its i
I found some great official ones HERE, which include some official 30th anniversary ones as well as some Astro Bot ones. I'll post comments below with the ones I like, but feel free to post your own. Whichever gets the most upvotes wins!
Hey guys, as some of you may already know, we recently removed some of the filters on the sub to speed up when posts would appear.
Here are the golden questions-- are there any filters that you want to return? Is the current filtering system good as-is? Are there any filters that you would like lightened more? Is how the filters are currently good enough?
If you need clarification on any of the filter changes, ask below or in modmail. Please let us know how the sub feels right now so we can adjust the filters a bit and let you guys keep on goin' on.
Edit: Another (not very small) topic, but a lot of our veteran BAPCS folks will remember when EVGA affiliate links act
In response to community feedback, we'll be lightening up (and removing) some posting restrictions this Holiday season. You may notice some filters being disabled (and/or re-enabled) in the coming weeks to keep good deals out of modqueue. You may also notice some automod messages not aligning with the actions automod has taken (e.g, a post went through but automod says that the post requires manual approval).
Reporting posts that break the rules is the best way to have them taken down. Please use reports and the comment system to your advantage on posts that are fraudulent or astroturfing.
Please leave comments on this post or send a modmail at any time if
I am not looking to participate in a community where mods remove posts based on their feelings about the source, there needs to be a proof to the mod claim.
Why did my post got removed in this case?
How is the source unreliable, what is the mod proof for that?

Our one (1) day April 2024 event, AprilFolly, takes place Monday, April 1, 2024.
For AprilFolly, your OP's April Fools' Day prank has failed horribly for them. The focus and horror of the story must be on the failed prank.
WHAT THIS MEANS:
Your OP planned a terrible April Fools' Day prank, such as faking their own death, planning a "bank robbery" or pretending to "break into" a neighbor's home.
The prank goes horribly wrong – instead of throwing a mannequin out their second story window as planned, OP accidentally fa
Last week we asked you for input on how to structure our threads for seasonal Steam sales going forward. We got a lot of great responses, so thank you very much to all who shared their thoughts.
In terms of results, there was a strong preference for both options 1 and 2, with a slight lead by option 1. We weren't just looking at raw numbers however, we also considered the rationale and argument behind each comment.
What we learned was that many enjoyed the discussion aspect of the Steam sales, but felt the unchanging nature of the sales did not justify a large number of threads. We feel this is a very fair point, and will
As we mentioned during the Steam Summer Sale, we will no longer be actively running the seasonal Steam sale threads due to reduced moderator capacity. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to handle the daily maintenance of these threads anymore.
Although we are sad to end this long-running tradition, the timing does feel right. With each new sale, Steam has slowly been moving away from a deterministic set of featured daily sales, towards a more generalized recommendation engine. The deals that one person saw on their frontpag
Hi all. The time has come. After the reddit API situation I've been focusing on this subreddit less and less every week. I keep the spam out as promised, but beyond that, htere's nothing creative going on from the mod side.
Do you want to join the mod team? Do you have ideas that could bring the subreddit back to its glory? Would you like to try and run a subreddit?
Well, now you can. Probably. Leave a comment with your ideas for improvements/changes and a reason why you'd like to be a mod.
There's no deadline for when the applications are no longer going to be accepted, it's gonna happen when it's gonna happen. There's also no clearly defined criteria
UPDATE: Looks like the voting is evenly split (3 vs 2, but one of those 3 was me). As a result, I'll keep things mostly the same for this community. No big changes coming. We'll keep this community focused on weird stories/events but I'll give the "news" part a little bit of wiggle room.

Good evening guys, gals, and non-binary pals -
I know this isn't the biggest community on Lemmy, but I would love to hear your feedback on the future direction of this place. I've been thinking about this for a while and @BlameThePeacock's recent post inspired me to actually post about it.
The original idea for this community was to be a Lemmy equivalent of /r/offbeat on Reddit. A place for weird, strange, and offbeat things that happen in the news. Kind of like nottheonion, but with a broader scope.
I've been noticing that sometimes people post things that are interesting and very much offbeat, but not what you would traditionally consider as news. I haven't been removing
Hello! Your friendly mod PassingDuchy again with a few community updates!
Reddit and Discord Hobby Drama communities
I did reach out to both communities. The response from both is that they're not interested in affiliating. As such we won't be linking to either community in the sidebar to respect their wishes. Going forward please don't send either community messages about partnering with this community (though I appreciate everyone who did! It was a big help).
Reposting
Based on the previous discussion post we will be encouraging an opt-out request be sent to authors, but not requiring. The only requirement currently is that the full text is reposted and a link to the original post is included at the top or bottom of the repost.
14 Day Rule
The 14 day rule for all drama being concluded (outside of Round Up) will remain instituted.
Post Titles
As Lemmy doesn't currently have flairs/tags, we will be requiring a litt
It's been 2 months since the post about plans on simplifying the rules for this subreddit. As there was no new input, this is as good time as any to introduce the changes.
New rules are as follows:
All posts TITLES must use a valid [TAG].
A [TAG] needs to be used within the title of your post. This doesn't mean flairs, it means titles.
Following everything that's going on with API and protests I decided not to abandon the community, but to relax the rules in order to make moderating this space a more straightforward process.
The list below are proposed rule changes. None of this is final and your feedback is needed. There's no rush to make changes, so there will be no rush.
All posts TITLES must use a valid [TAG].
This one stays with no changes. Title tags are tied to automod config and it would disrupt everything too much to try and get rid of it.
2. Post your resources!
This one stays as well, but in a relaxed manner. Links wouldn't be *req
