Back in April, Sega Sammy announced that it will acquire Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment for 706 million Euros (about $776 million) to help with its expansion in the mobile market. Today, Sega has confirmed that the acquisition is complete and Rovio has joined Sega Group.
Good for Sega. But have they released anything worthwhile recently? The OG Angry Birds was a fun game but I feel like they milked it with all its worth and people got sick of it pretty soon after.
I think the idea is that this way they can work on things that aren't Angry Birds, Sega has a lot of IP. Sega just seems to want a developer with a track history that can make things for that market. They also seem to want to make sega look more appealing to future buyers so having a mobile arm probably helps there.
