Shouldn’t Brooklyn Nine-Nine be lawful good?
The only lawful persons art Holt and Amy. For Jake, Gina, Scully, Hitchcock, and everybody else : it's chaotic.
I disagree, pretty much every character in the show has a LG moment when they do the right thing in spite of being tempted not to.
I think the Chaotic rating works, no? Between Jake's die hard antics and Scully & Hitchcock being themselves, I think it fits.
I'm Chaotic Evil. I've been watching IASIP since season 1 and could probably quote every line.
JUST BASH ME LIKE A RAT! JUST BASH ME LIKE A RAT AND GET IT OVER WITH!
We weren't quite sure what a worm hat was, right?
So we made a few of 'em.
Puck from Gargoyles decided to mimic the most serious person he could find and serve a billionaire. All because he thought it would be hilarious. This is chaotic neutral. This continues to blow my mind.
Chaotic evil :3
Mac: I’m Lawful and Chaotic Evil.
Chaotic evil :3
considering alec baldwin hasa tendancy to discharge his gun sound about right.
too bad isaip went from chaotic evil to neutral in the later seasons.
no curb your enthusiam?
Neutral and Chaotic Evil.
I'm neutral good apparently as it's the only show I know.
Wow you’re missing out on some of the best sitcoms in history then. Community and arrested development alone, then you bring in 30 rock? I think those three are the most tightly and expertly written comedy scripts, period. They all ended up overstaying their storylines and you can pretty much lop off a few seasons of each, but as someone who watched them all while they aired, I have a deep, abiding love for them and still find joy in he lesser seasons. Do yourself a favor and catch up on these.
I've seen almost all of them and can confirm that if you enjoyed one of the shows here you will probably enjoy each of them.
Do Friends
Chaotic shows good, all others much less so, got it
It's chaotic neutral until you hit the evil timeline
Danny Pudi ftw 👍
Cool… cool, cool, cool!
Hot… hot, hot, hot!
That's still CN, and firmly in the murderhobo category insofar as "haha, it's a phase" handwaving as canonical explanation. 😶
I don't know that system of a down music video
The copaganda show .... as chaotic good?
No. Heck no.
The Good Place is a much better fit.
eh, woke cops is a liberal fantasy, to be sure. Brooklyn 99 was put in an awkward spot in 2020 and did its best to try and talk about them. I do think it was made with the best of intentions, and the cop stuff is mostly like, a parody of cop stuff tropes, rather than a fetishization of the cops themselves (like, say, Law and Order.) Maybe it doesn't excuse it totally, but it is really worse than say, Parks and Rec's cheery depiction of depiction of politics (especially when it goes national)?
Part of what convinces me of it's earnestness is how focused it was on representation. Theres a story about how when Stefanie Beatriz found out Melissa Fumero got the part of Amy, she was convinced well, that was it, they cast the Latina woman. I forget if they made the part of Rosa for her or they liked her so much they just cast her as it, but like, the cast being so diverse stands out compared to some of the more whiter casts on this very list. (and Im not knocking any show on this list, honestly. I liked them all except for The Office, which I never watched, and whatever LN is)
LN is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Did you even see the last 2 seasons? They actually really confronted those issues and outright said that they weren't really the good guys, the show tackled multiple times that the system is completely broken. I get if it was Law and Order being mad, but man you're mad at the only cop show I've ever seen acknowledging and trying to tackle these issues. I mean, that's literally why they made the captain gay and black, and that's just one example.
You just listed the exact reasons the show is copaganda.
American Police are not lovable goofballs full of historically oppressed minorities realizing they are the bad guys. They are not "tackling issues", they are lampshading and white washing them. Take the episode where Peralta meets the old detective from the book he loves on and is like
"Oh wow, old school police were racist... glad they aren't anymore!"
Newer SVU episodes also acknowledge the issues and often essentially have the message that they (the very specific SVU team) are the only non-terrible NYPD team even within their own universe. I can't speak to the other law and orders as I haven't seen them.
It is copaganda but they're trying their best. SVU in particular seems pretty self aware that it's pretty much fantasy at this point.
I'm here and I brought my pitchfork, what's next?
Good call, totally agree
None of them fit as well as Sunny for chaotic evil.
Community is pretty damn good for CN
Fey and Poehler occupying the entire Lawful column is insane, and the truth.
Yes, Kenneth. :)
Ok the only two I recognize are also the ones that have the show name on them. What about the other 7?
i dont recognized the middle left. top left: parks and recs, and then brookyln 99,
the middle right is community
the bottom is 30rock, arrested development and isaip.
Parks and Recreation - Scrubs - Brooklyn Nine Nine.
Kimmy Schmidt - The Office - Community.
30 Rock - Arrested Development - Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
All these are good (although I never saw the end of The Office), but I'm chaotic evil. IASIP is my all time favourite US sitcom (Peep Show being my favourite UK sitcom).
Evil is my favorite row here. Scrubs shares my #1 spot with 30 Rock, but only because of how much heart it has. The only show that matches the evil row for number of laughs for me is Community.
I didn't think I actually watch a lot of TV, but fuck me, I've seen pretty much every episode of every one of these shows, minus Brooklyn 99. Made it like 3 seasons and got bored with it.
If you liked every one of those shows, I can guarantee you that you'll like the rest of B99. Early seasons focus a lot on Jake, Holt and Amy, but later seasons get more variety in leads and storylines. There's a bunch of very good recurring concepts too, comparable to the Community paintball episodes. The series only gets stronger as it progresses imo.
I dunno, man. I liked all the other shows from the get go except for parks and rec (season 1 was bad). Going like 3 seasons and deciding to stop watching..... Prolly just not going to do it for me.
9 9!
9 9!
:O How dare you.
This a good 70% of what I watch
The office is in no way neutral, it’s definitely in the evil scale. You’re meant to hate all the characters.
Even Jim and Pam? Or Daryl? I mean Toby naturally. But that's just one guy.
Jim and Pam constantly pull pranks on Dwight that he has no fun in. It’s fun for the viewer, but they’re still terrible people. Daryl is also funny but mean as hell. If you’re putting always sunny and arrested development down there then yes, the office goes down there too. No clue why 30 rock is down in evil though.
Michael and Dwight and Angela and Ryan and Stanley and of course Kelly are all villains in their own way
All these shows are bangers, well done!
Not my creation, to be clear
Yep, clearly chaotic good.
Chaotic evil for sure.
I only know 3 of these shows and they're all awesome
If you like any of these shows, I strongly recommend the rest. They all scratch that same itch for me, extremely well-written, clever comedies (that is to say, the jokes are often clever, the characters are often not).
Lawful Good: Parks and Recreation
Neutral Good: Scrubs
Chaotic Good: Brooklyn 99
Lawful Neutral: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
True Neutral: The Office
Chaotic Neutral: Community
Lawful Evil: 30 Rock
Neutral Evil: Arrested Development
Chaotic Evil: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
I never watch any of those series so no clue...
Oh no, my tastes tell me I am all four on the bottom right, so, basically chaotic evil and neighbours 🤔
I am Neutral Good.
I've never been so proud to've moved from CN to CE. 😭🤘🏼
(Which seems, by this graph, to be the natural progression.)
What are the middle and bottom lawful shows?
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and 30 Rock.
I wonder what actor has the most of these shows. Fred Armisen has done a character on the lawful column plus brooklyn 99. I wonder if someone out there has 5 or more.
Will Arnett was a regular in Arrested development and 30 rock and made an appearance in Parks & Rec and The Office. And apparently voiced “Kitty” in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
The last 2 is me for sure
Sienfeld?
Chaotic Evil. Always Sunny is Seinfeld without trying to make the characters likeable, which as a huge Seinfeld fan, I felt was the biggest detriment to the show, and probably done so Jerry Seinfeld felt better acting in it as himself. What with being a groomer and all.
and his shit eating grin when confronted about his support for IDF and israel, plus his wife is also funding anti-protest groups. i felt like the other actors in seinfeld is what made it funnier than him alone, and with him alone he is kinda of a lame duck, given how he acted when people wouldnt laugh at his jokes.
ISAIP was chaotic evil to become neutral, in the later seasons. from season 13 on, they switched.
The characters on Seinfeld were NOT intended to be likable.
The characters aren't likeable?
I feel like there's gotta be a separate chart entirely for the late-'80s/mid-'90s sitcoms. Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld, Roseanne, Home Improvement, Wings - that's an argument in and of itself.
But they're definitely not in any box with "Good" under it.
I think by the rules of the chart meme some have to be good maybe home improvement and friends ot sure about the rest
Neutral evil, mebbe?
try House for chaotic good
also maybe instead of "random shows that some dude watches" you could go for a theme like medical shows, cop shows, whatever?
(oops all the cop shows would be lawful evil)
These are all sitcoms.
House himself is a bad man though. He only helps people because it feeds his ego. Plus all the other shows are sitcoms and House isn't really.
I mean the whole show is about how none of that matters when you save someone's life who would be dead otherwise
He had his moments of humanity, and it was to satisfy his curiosity as much as ego.
hes also somewhat amoral, because of his injury. the closest characther to another show would dr rush in SGU, they both had similar experiences that caused to be callous.
Agree, I imagine House only got a medical degree because he was effortlessly a straight-A student and it fed his ego.
