Would you put up a flag somewhere?
Would you put up a flag somewhere?
I'm not talking like 10 of them, just one. Even for historical reasons.
Edit: I suppose you could answer any way you like it, but fwiw I meant like an American flag. ๐บ๐ฒ

I fly two flags in my home: the NCR flag with the two headed bear, and the flag of the United Federation of Planets. These are the only two political organizations I have any patriotism toward. They are both entirely fictional but โtrueโ to me on a heart level.
I'm a recently retired military veteran who was gifted an American flag as part of my retirement ceremony.
If I fly any official flags on my property, it'll likely be the new Minnesota flag, demonstrating pride in my home state that has stood up against bigotry and hatred in recent years and is currently pushing an amendment to our state constitution that will guarantee equal rights for absolutely everyone, including protections for abortions and LGBTQ+ citizens. Plus, the new state flag was made in an effort to move away from the perception of racism and colonization that our traditional flag previously displayed.
Heck, I might even fly a Norwegian flag, demonstrating pride in my family's heritage and a nation that's rated one of the top countries to live in globally (They're usually #1, but I believe Denmark occasionally snags the title from them). I still have relatives living in Norway, and that country is my bug-out location if America ever becomes inhospitable.
I will NOT fly the American flag. I am very disappointed in my nation currently. I served during Trump's first term and it was a complete shitshow for the US military, not to mention the awful changes he made that affected the civilian population. He's determined to burn it all to the ground this time around and I'm glad I'm no longer in the military, dealing with the fallout.
If anything, I will fly the American flag upside down, the sign of distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
Did someone say... Minnesota?
Go Minnesota! Some of the contender flag designs I liked a bit better, but it is really recognizable and stuck it to the racists and didn't the back off making the unreadably bad "flag with a seal on it" go away!
Thank you for your service, and yeah I completely understand.:-(
Conservatives often go much farther, showing the flag not left to right but up and down, and in all black and gray to indicate corruption, or even outright altered like showing the thin blue line.
::: spoiler Edit: adding picture of the above:

I wonder if there's a way for people to respect our nation's past even if not agreeing with the future direction, like a Betsy Ross style flag or some such?
Can't go wrong with classic red white and blue.
All thin lines are cringe no matter the color. I don't mind the black/transparent decal stickers of flags. I think some people read too deep into those, it's just the easiest to match any car paint scheme. Not a fan of the distressed ones like what you showed though.
Nah it's starts to feel to much of a salute to the current Nazis Trump that are in charge. Don't want to be a Nazi trump sympathizer.
That's what I worry about: people no longer proud of our nation, despite all the years between 1776 and now that displaying a flag could signify.
The likes of Musk and Ted Cruz may not be from here, but MLK and AOC are.
Pride flag, sure. Any country's flag, nah.
Got an American flag up in the front of the garage.
You can be proud of the good parts of being an American and still want to improve on the bad parts. I respect people's choice to not fly one if they don't feel like the flag deserves it right now, but I know in other countries that are fighting oppression you will see the American flag is often being waved in those crowds. To many people it still holds the symbol of freedom and individual identity.
I also have a "no touchy" emperors new groove version of the Gadsden flag on my wall because I find the meme hilarious.
I was not aware of this flag before. It's fantastic!
It really is a fantastic flag. I can always hear David Spades voice in my head every time I look at it lol .
This is an awesome answer!:-) "They"/others shouldn't get to define whoever it is that "we" are.:-)
Apparently AZ Dbacks fans like to fly a no step on snek version of the gadsden flag, which I find hilarious.
The no step on snek version was the original meme version of the flag. I just find anything llama related hilarious so the emperors new groove version is what I rock.
Not really. America as a state is a bad thing, imo. Colonialist state built on genocide and slavery, continues to be a violent force in the rest of the world.
I love the land itself and I have compassion for my fellow citizens, but not the country, if that makes any sense. To me the flag represents something that needs to be dismantled.
I guess it can mean different things to different people. To a conservative, a strong past followed up by a bright fascist future only held up by corrupt liberals, while to liberals a march toward a welcoming socialist utopia only held up by backwards thinking conservatives.
Truth lies in the middle I am afraid, but anyway I feel like I get some of what you mean even if I inject my own lines of thinking into that as well (that both sides are naive and led around by the nose by the wealthy who purchase politicians who promise much and then deliver next to nothing or even worse sometimes).
Personally I think that we need to make life happen locally regardless of what they do, but I understand if someone else thinks otherwise. Although in your case that's kinda what your said maybe, except I don't care if the tax collection system gets dismantled or not, I just think that the former is true regardless.

That's something we definitely agree on. I think our differences are basically semantic; I can't detangle the name and symbology of America from a structure I don't believe in, but I know that's not universal. At the end of the day we both care about our home and the people living here.
I pass a house and I see a flag... "A racist definitely lives there."
I'd never fly an American flag. I'm not at all patriotic; I'm deeply ashamed of this country.
Highly ironically - and you may hate me for saying this but... - that you share in common with the other side. Man, disinformation has worked so incredibly well to prey upon our existing division spots and weaknesses.
American flags are so much work if you want to follow the Flag Code, and I feel very strongly about following the Flag Code.
Flags are a pain in the ass.
My grandfather had a pole in his front yard. Every bloody day it was acceptable, the US and US naval flag were up. Made him happy, having been career navy, but the amount of work involved in maintaining the pole can fuck right off for me, even if I gave a damn about flags.
And that's not including maintaining the flags, nor the extra bullshit about how you handle the flags when they're governmental.
Most I'm willing to deal with is a rainbow sticker, or one of the various related flags in sticker form so folks know they aren't alone, that they have people that care about them and their rights. Even that, I'm not dealing with an actual flag for.
Iโll put a US flag magnet on my fridge. If I had a house with a flagpole on the property, Iโm flying the flag of my college.
Definitely not. This country leaves me very little to be proud of.
Absolutely not.
I have my grandpa's old US flag, and I occasionally display it for Independence Day or Memorial Day.
I am a low-key flag nerd and used to have a collection of interesting small flags in my bedroom as a kid. I would love to have a rotating selection of flags to fly in my front yard: historical US flags like the Serapis flag, or other flags that look cool or have interesting backgrounds. Alas, my wife won't let me put up a flagpole.
Could you put up like a Star Trek flag? ๐
Why no actual flagpole?
Heck yeah, I would fly a Star Trek flag. That would be a good choice on Gene Roddenberry's birthday.
She thinks it wouldn't look good in our yard. She may also suspect that I would occasionally fly stuff like the "defend equality" flag, which would cause some friction with our conservative neighbors.
I got some of the interesting/r/vexillology flags printed and also fly a women's suffrage flag around elections. Just don't make the same mistake I made and make sure that the image gets mirrored on the opposite side of the flag.
I fly one of these LGBTQ American flags on my house

Nice!
If I could own a nice house, I had a good work life balance, I didn't need to worry about medical or the nonexistence of retirement, my potential grandkids had a solid future, and the world seemed stable and peaceful, then, then I might feel like taking to time to say I'm proud and happy in my life.
Do they make Luigi flags
I like my state flag so someday I plan on buying one and hanging it on a wall somewhere.
On a sailboat!
if i had a yard, or even an exterior door (my 'front door' opens to an interior common hallway), yea. probably.
but it'd be my goldy one on gopher/badger hockey weekends. that's about it.
My priority as a parent has to be protecting my family. Any flag I could fly would put a target on my family in someone's eyes. Why risk it?
Keeping anyone from killing your kids is definitely step 1 in parenting, but be careful it doesnโt become step 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7โฆ step 992,000.
If you think through every life choice through the lens of whether it increases or decreases the odds of your children being murdered, youโre going to raise them wrong.
This is a time of uncertainty. It's unclear how far the new American Nazi movement will go. I'm playing it safe for now.
Nov I am not of a kind who has developed emotional relationship with colorfull rag of "particular" criminalls and murderers.
No. Nothing is worth supporting that much.
Sure, I have an American Flag I put out on the appropriate days like Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, and July 4th.
I also have a variety of University Sports Teams and Political flags that I will put out when appropriate.
