65,000,000 eligible voters don't vote. Should have fought harder to get those butts off the couch to vote than just "but Trump". If you don't excite the base, they're not going to go out and vote.
Preventing fascism isn't exciting. It's a necessity. It's the civic equivalent of brushing your teeth.

Trump won because millions of people were swayed by propaganda and misinformation.
There was a lot of propaganda going around, but the Dems decided their message was to be in denial about the economy and to court the Republicans who were too sexist to vote for a woman anyway.
The problem is the Democrats told the truth about the economy. They said it was getting better slowly over time and that prices were never going to go back to what they were before Covid. People would rather hear Trump's comfortable lies than face the uncomfortable truth.
Regular people associate "the economy" with their own subjective bubble. Regular people are dumb as fuck and the Dems shouldn't pretend like we are a country with free education where people make collected and informed decisions.
Despite the dems prepping the macro economy to distibute wealth to workers, the workers did not feel that wealth.
It was a good economy for transitioning us to EVs, bad for affording human needs.
Look around the world. Incumbents lost all over because of the economy. It's not a Democrat problem.
Then they shouldn't lie to people and say that the economy is good.
Because the quality of life of their voter base has diminished since Covid.
Like people confuse weather and climate, or sex and gender, people confuse the economy with their budget. The reality that the economy does not serve the average American is an entirely different problem than the covid recovery. The problem is income inequality has been growing for 50 years. (And Biden tried to help this with caps on medicine costs, college loan forgiveness, the child tax credit, and dozens of other things)
The economy was getting better if you base "the economy" on stock values. The way politicians, especially neoliberals, measure the health of the economy is fundamentally misaligned with the experience of the average person. That's on purpose though. They care more about the wealthy than the people.
The argument was based on real median wages returning to above where they were in 2019, unemployment being <5% and inflation dropping back to 2%.
Or here me out, they saw both sides as moraly reprehensable, not neccisarily equaly so, but enough that they would not be able to sleep at night giving either of them their vote, and tasid suport for what they are doing. As much as people here like to claim your really voting aganst the other guy, the vote is still for one side.
That would be valid if there were more than two choices. There were not. Not voting doesn't free you from moral culpability; it makes you morally culpable for either outcome. Inaction is acceptance of the worst happening.
Not voting is an action. An action that says, "either is fine"
It is an action yes. But you presume to ascribe what it means for everyone and thats not how understanding a population of voters ideas works. You are thinking we all live in your head and we just dont.
To some it means, "I wont vote for that level of effing far right wing immorality, especially not from inside whats supposed to be a left leaning party."
Or to others: "I wont be held hostage by DNC fuckheads so they can get whatever awful outcome they want, since they target the party being just to the left of fascism. They created and control this trolley problem nonsense."
Or: "I dont like fascism in either party, thanks. Eff both the parties."
And for people like yourselves it means, "I will do whatever these people tell me, including condoning war crimes and racism, so I can 'win' ". Thats just a reflection of who YOU are, @generalemergency. Not everyone else. And the people of your philosophical camp Lost. And maybe lost the country to fascism too. It was leaderships job to read the demographics and polling and understand how to get to a win and they arrogantly didnt do that. It wouldnt even have been hard, and a win was very possible. Bidenists fundamentally misunderstood how to lead a coalition, and imperiously and arrogantly thought they could order people to vote for war crimes. Turns out that didnt work. Maybe they should have done their effing jobs instead of sniffing their own thrones.
So was appealing to right wing voters and alienating huge portions of the populations. In fact the Democratic Party took a LOT more 'actions' to lose this election than the people who stayed home did. Put your anger where it belongs for fucks sake.

Not voting doesn't tell anything to the Democrats. Not voting doesn't say "You did bad in Palestine" because for years, not voting meant "I can't be bothered to vote, and I don't care who wins".
If you have a specific message to your politicians, you have to contact them directly. Or protest. Or do something to actually get your message to them.

I think they'd do well to move more leftward. Benefitting the common man. Marginalizing any sort of economic liberal. But a lot is going to have to happen before that. I don't think it's fair to attribute his winning the election on people that didn't vote for Kamala. Young white men came out in droves voting for him - we cannot underestimate the political results of figures like Joe Rogan, Andrew Tate, and Ben Shapiro and the kind of rhetoric they're able to spread.
Young people overall still went for Harris by the largest margin of any age group. The story is overwhelmingly one about turnout. The overall turnout was down 3% and the drop happened mostly in demographic groups that lean Democratic.
