President Joe Biden is commuting the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic and pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes.
Others are advocating for Biden to commute the sentences of federal death row prisoners. His attorney general, Merrick Garland, paused federal executions. Biden had said on the campaign trail in 2020 that he wanted to end the death penalty but he never did, and now, with Trump coming back into office, itâs likely executions will resume. During his first term, Trump presided over an unprecedented number of federal executions, carried out during the height of the pandemic.
Yeah, well watch that not happen.
America's bloodlust can never be satiated.
Trump will probably bring back gladiatorial combat as a Twitter video exclusive.
People have loved gladiatorial combat since time immemorial.
I mean look at the popularity of Pokemon even to this day. It's basically baby's first Mandingo fight. Even kids can see the appeal of sending creatures enslaved to you to fight each other :>
He can pardon him now. It's only the crime (or even alleged crime) that needs to have happened before the pardon. Consider Ford's pardon of Nixon, which occurred before Tricky Dick was indicted.
Meh. These are people who were deemed too sick and old to be any kind of threat during the fucking Trump administration and released from prison back then because of the pandemic. These people should have all gotten pardons years ago, and it doesn't do anything to alleviate or address all the suffering and human rights abuses being suffered by people who are actually in prisons.
Edit: I am also wondering if youâre consistent with the people Trump pardoned or if youâre having double standards because itâs not your party. As I wouldnât want ANY president pardoning family members, regardless of political leaning.
Literally the very first paragraph of the story. The very first.
President Joe Biden is commuting the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic and is pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. Itâs the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.
Why? Because the president has arguably unlimited power to pardon federal crimes.
