Sure, but even that is a pain when you're trying to get through a ship quickly. And if there's 2 ladders stacked and you miss the ledge grab on the second? Chutes and ladders, motherfucker.
Yeah that was my thought when I read this article. I used the ladder once, thought never again, and just started jumping up. Only issue is a double ladder but those are better avoided anyway.
I hate that you can't turn around or shoot from them, going up the ladder while three people are shooting you all nice and calm then turning around like a Terminator
I use a balanced boostpack to get through the ladder holes and thus ascend the floors faster.
One of these days, I want to create a ship that’s shaped suspiciously like the mothership from Homeworld (basically built like a tower rather than a flat building), just for kicks (and to test whether this tactic works with multiple floors in the same ladder chamber)
I don't understand the trend of games making ladder animations super slow for ladders in places players are supposed to use often. Any game that instantly teleports you to the top or bottom of a ladder, regardless of how much it breaks immersion, gets an A in my book rather than spending 30 seconds climbing up one story in an area that I have to ladder to frequently
Mild spoilers. There's a few levels where it's zero g. Some random encounters where you raid a enemy ship, it's zero g and when you reach the captain's chair, you turn the gravity back on and all the doohickeys like pencils and mugs fall down in a really satisfying way.
Some people would probably complain because realism, but I've always liked how it's handled in Counter Strike. If you're near a ladder you can just move up and down it relatively quickly, but you also maintain all other character controls. There's no animation and you just like float there, but it works super well for gameplay. Obviously it's not good for a cinematic thing, but for a game that's supposed to be fun to play, it's great.
Personally, I haven't really found a way to connect rooms above rooms in a way that uses the ladder position I actually want. Its just random, which is annoying because most of the time it doesn't give me a single ladder that connects all the floors, it connects 2 or 3 at one spot, another 2 at another, etc. It's fucking dumb. I mean, I could use the single room pieces for this, but that looks ugly and is otherwise totally unnecessary.
There's some weird bug with a ladder in one of my ships. There's a hole at the bottom of the ladder that drops down to the ground floor (with no corresponding ladder itself). This means I need to select the ladder from an angle or start climbing all over again.
I might check this build out once I meet the requirements.
