Is it wrong to call a Nazi a Nazi? No and it should be done regularly.
For 16+ years I've been watching the divisions grow. It started with the covert racism of the tea party and birtherism and in 2015 an orange turd slid down an escalator and brought it all out into the open, making it ok to identify people as rapists and murders based on where they are from and the color of their skin.
There has always existed "others" to those who need to have someone to blame or someone to punch down and there always will be. But I liked it better when they weren't so empowered. "Democracy dies in darkness" but so does hate.
It used to be that not knowing how to spell potato or not wanting to eat broccoli was enough to damage a political reputation. To say that you don't like the man who divides and insults, funnels tax money to his pockets, attacks women verbally and physically, and threatens the security of our nation and our allies'; but still vote for him is insanity. At this point I can only conclude that his supporters embrace the racism, are willfully ignorant, view him as a useful idiot, or a bit of it all.
End rant. I didn't want to actually add to the divide, but finding common ground is nearly impossible.
I'm happy to vote for Harris. A person who supports all Americans regardless of how they identify in any way. I am excited to have someone who will fight for equality. Someone who understands that income and wealth disparity is failing lower and middle classes.
Harris is not perfect, but perfect for me won't be for someone else, so searching for perfect is a losing hand.
I agree things used to be more... sensible? But the issue I take here is the bit about hate. It does not die in darkness. It festers. It may be forgotten and quaint by the time it boils back up, but it remains. The best resolution to hate is enlightenment and education, but that is a difficult and involved commitment, which doesn't suit our particular need to fight the nearest alligator at all times. The greater risk comes when we've forgotten about the hate because we were busy with something else.
I assume lower class people will as well. But voting over the economy is an emotional thing not a practical one. It’s a result of the two Santa tactic causing people to associate republicans with economic prosperity (of the same variety experienced by a fool with their first credit card and no job to spend their time with) and democrats with the unpleasantness of the economic slump this makes and the long term sound tactics that aren’t fun in the moment but do work
It certainly does. And it’s important to remember that a lot of dissatisfied leftists frustrated with the democratic socialists decided not to vote as a protest in that election.
It’s pretty simple. Just like when the simple solution to defeating the Nazis was to fucking kill them or force them to surrender and rot in a prison. The approach still stands. You don’t let fire spread; you put it out. You don’t let disease spread; you kill or contain it. You don’t let mold grow in your house; you eradicate it.
You don’t let nazis march in your streets in 2024; you beat the fuck out of them and send them to hell.
The reality is that if people want to stop simply dreaming about revolution, shit is gonna get way ugly before it gets better. Us USA folks are stuck in a country that has both the biggest military and by extension, police forces, in the entire world. Our government looks at world atrocities and is like “yeah, we patented that.”
These are the “fiscally conservative, socially liberal” Republicans all over the city. It doesn’t matter what they believe, or say they believe, the only thing they think about at the polls is conservatism.
“I absolutely support education, just not with my tax dollars.”
My parents sure do love voting away all social welfare from existence.
My family would not have survived without the food, medical, and schooling assistance we recieved. Without their church helping out, we wouldn't have had the rent several times.
Completely oblivious to the circumstances that gifted them their lives
I think it's wilful ignorance, at least sometimes. They know they succeed because of taxes paid by previous humans, they just don't want to contribute themselves.
““He’s doing a good job,” Trump said about the Israeli leader. “Biden is trying to hold him back, just so you understand, Biden is more superior to the VP. He’s trying to hold him back, and he probably should be doing the opposite, actually. I’m glad that [Netanyahu] decided to do what he had to do, but it’s moving along pretty good.”
But surely the biggest problem in America is that oligarchs pay too much taxes /s We too will be welcome into the oligarch club, and who tf wants to pay 21% corporate taxes when we get there. Like why bother ruling over all of you, if we will have to pay taxes?
