Not just Mattis. He tried to order the active duty military to go after protestors in D.C. They reminded him of their oath and the Posse Comitatus Act. At volume. In the Oval Office. Then they released a force wide memo reminding everyone their oath was to the Constitution, not the President.

The US military has specifically benefited from diversity and inclusivity programs in recent years. The actual size of the US military force is comparatively smaller than in the past, and being more inclusive has benefited the institution in the concrete way of just having a larger number of potential enlistees to pull from.
I'm all for reducing the size of the US military, but to be clear that's the only effect this will have.

U.S. military, ironically, has good gender affirming healthcare from what a few of my trans friends are telling me.
If Trump gets into power, all of the work to attract smart people into the technology sectors, including the push to be inclusive of trans people of the military would go into the trash.
