Nope. I've had a script with almost 100 regex's that automatically blacklisted around 200 people every time I opened Twitter. Two years in and upwards of 300.000 accounts in the blacklist, I realized that it didn't even make a dent in dealing with all of the spam I was seeing, and just deleted my account. Best decision ever. I advice you too, to try it out.
It's easier to not care. It's selfish, a bit cruel, it's literally the least you can do to carry a basic awareness of ongoing truth, but it is easier I imagine to pretend it isn't happening and just fixate on what's left when you remove all of that from Lemmy... So just, oops all Linux memes?
Ignore the haters OP, your mental health is important and if these topics are making you feel burnt out, then you are more than justified in tuning them out for a while. Don't be guilt tripped into staying perpetually outraged.
It's funny how many Americans don't realize that there are people living life outside the US that also have access to the internet and Lemmy.
As someone living in an area where I can literally walk into 3 different countries (even if I need to hike a few hours) I cannot wrap my head around that exceptionalism.
Damn. This comment section really highlights who lives on Lemmy and it's their number 1 source for everything vs. people that just use it like a social.
Half of me wants to be snarky and call you privileged for being able to ignore these types of things, or some string of expletives for choosing to ignore an ongoing genocide. But then I thought about it and damn, i really wish I could ignore this mess, and I can’t blame you for just giving in. Your mental health must have improved drastically after this. I would be a hypocrite to call you out while wanting it to end so badly.
As someone who is politically engaged to the point of being an activist, I don’t mind seeing political news, and I read a fuckton of it. But jesus christ do I want this election year to just end, this season has been insufferable and exhausting. I’ve been struggling to find a way to participate beyond the regular praxis I do, since I can at least find solace in my friends as we address queer issues and homelessness in my area. But going beyond that brings me into the purgatory of American politics in this hell year.
After getting filters, Lemmy turns into just tech news, millennial humour, memes you have to read some dweebs theory to laugh at, and political posts that bypasses said filter
I feel kinda conflicted on whether or not it makes me a bad person if I hide Israel/Palestine posts. Of course it's bad for my mental health if I have to hear about an ongoing genocide all the time, but I don't know how I can stay informed on top of that.
I'm considering sequestering myself until the US election is over. If I just see the result it will be less mentally taxing than if I watch the entire process. I think I would legitimately turn into that screaming liberal guy if I watched the election result coverage live.
"People often say, with pride, 'I'm not interested in politics.' They might as well say, 'I'm not interested in my standard of living, my health, my job, my rights, my freedoms, my future or any future.' ... If we mean to keep any control over our world and lives, we must be interested in politics."
