Starting in April 2025, Tokyo government employees will have the option to work a four-day workweek.
The Tokyo government is also exploring a partial vacation system for parents of elementary school-aged children and considering ordinances to promote women’s participation in the workforce.
155 hours over 20 workdays is 7.75 hours a day. They allow one day off per month now, and would allow four. The question that isn't answered is if it cuts your hours, or if you have to work it off as 4x10hrs instead. Also, I don't know about time off in Japan - is it in addition to regular time off or what.
Obviously 4 8 hour shifts would be ideal but I have done 4 10s for the past 4 years and would absolutely never be willing to go back to 5 8 hour shifts.
