Ew! 1080p
4 9 ReplyBut 4k takes so much storage😭
15 1 ReplyEasy, buy more HDDs :D
4 0 ReplyI just bought 2x 20 TB Red pros... their at half capacity right now. I do not have that kind of money (or NAS) to do that every month😅
3 0 ReplyLol, are they mirrored or did you actually pull 20TB in a month?
1 0 ReplyMirrored, but still😅

Yeah, I'm counting on 1080 upscale improving.
3 0 ReplyYeah. 4 times the resolution, 10 times the size.
2 0 ReplyThis is an issue of the past for me since I started using Real Debrid with Kodi and Stremio.
I have a good backup amount in 1080p in Plex (physical and debrid symlinks), but when I want to experience 4K films properly I head up to Stremio or Kodi.

Yeah, that's, like, incredibly wasteful. 720p is fine.
Where are the 540p ripcorders at?14 1 ReplyDon't talk to me and my 4K collection ever again!
4 0 ReplyHow could I? Even saying "hello world" in your format is like, what, 35 MB?
2 0 ReplyYes, 35MB of glorious sharpness, 50 if its also HDR

I mean, if your monitor or TV is 1080p, why should you waste so much more storage to little-to-no visible improvement?
1 0 ReplyBecause you could buy a proper 4K Tv any time now :D
1 0 ReplyFor about € 1600 non-smart or € 900 smart in NL.
Nah, 1080p is good enough, even moreso at a metre or 2 from the screen!

You're not going to like this, but I have been encoding my own B-tier collection in 1080p at roughly BluRay quality with HDR & Uncompressed audio. A-Tier movies stay 4K Remux, but the B-squad gets the downgrade (but I'm not willing to give up HDR / Atmos)
0 0 ReplyYeah, usually you don't really notice a huge difference betwen FHD and 4K, especially with TV upscaling it anyway
4 0 ReplyI love that we can reencoding the 4k HDR to 1080 while we retain the HDR color information. Looks great to me while saving a ton of space.
