Sadly and ironically, FOSS mentality and bigotry have a very broad overlap. I guess being terminally online at a formative age can have only so many outcomes.
My guess is that bigotry is fairly common in general. I really say that there is somehow less of it in the FOSS space.
While I see how it would be very logical to think that a community founded under the principles of openness, cooperation and liberty would have less bigotry, this is sadly not the case.

Glad to hear you've found welcoming places. It is unfortunately not the case for most of the community and the first step in making any kind of improvement is acknowledging the problem.

I see. Lemmy, and the fediverse in general, have a higher concentration of FOSS-minded people.
