Every day those of us who voted against this shit are horrified reading the news. Before the election we warned everyone who would listen that a second Trump administration would be the end of this country as we know it. MAGA is well on their way to realizing Project 2025 and our institutions and leaders that were supposed to protect us have completely failed us.
MAGA will continue destroying our institutions, they'll start disappearing more political opponents and they'll keep threatening the countries that were once our closest friends. Things will only get worse and a lot more violent. Most Americans won't fully realize what's happening because our media is controlled by MAGA billionaires and over the past half century conservatives have successfully dismantled public education to the point where half of Americans are too stupid to be able to distinguish between facts and opinions.
And yet so far nothing has really changed for the vast majority of Americans, their day-to-day lives remain the same and things more or less function as they always have. They're comfortable enough that they're not going to risk their life or imprisonment to rise up against this fascist regime, if they're even aware of what's happening. The ones that are informed and care will attend rallies, listen to NPR and write their representatives.
So I completely understand you want to see Americans go French Revolution on MAGA, but this is the reality of the situation here. Americans are too comfortable, stupid and whipped to mount any substantial resistance to MAGA.
Salmiak is not popular worldwide. I love salmiak, but almost no one I mention it to is familiar with it.
I use Inleed and I'm really happy with them. It's a Swedish company with servers in Sweden and France. My WordPress site was super easy to set up through them. Hosting is as cheap as €2/month and you can buy your domain through them too.
If I lived in Europe and was looking to buy a new phone, I'd consider getting a Fairphone (Dutch) pre-installed with /e/OS (French degoogled OS).
My favorite gum is Swedish and made by Flux. It contains fluoride. It's usually sold in pharmacies in Sweden and you might find it in the other Nordic countries as well as in Germany. I live in the US and have family in Sweden, so every time I visit I take a bunch of Flux gum back to the states.
Absolutely avoid traveling to the US if you don't have to, but New York and New Orleans aren't total dumps as portrayed by these cherry picked images. I'll also point out that residents of both those cities overwhelmingly oppose Trump and vote heavily Democratic. And New Prague? Never heard of it!
Agree, I'm in Colorado and Mammut is well loved here (I own a Mammut jacket myself). Haglöfs makes top-notch backpacks and I wore exclusively Salomon shoes for over a decade before switching to zero-drop.
Most of these European brands are pretty easily found here if you know where to look. As for the American brands, Columbia is utter trash and Marmot isn't much better.
I was at the rally! I was one of the last people let inside before they closed the gate, and thousands of people that didn't get inside watched and listened from outside of the fencing, so the actual number was more than 34,000.
Here's a photo I took...
And here's Bernie...
Reminds me of that George Carlin quote: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
I switched from DuckDuckGo to Qwant a week ago and so far I'm happy with it. I'm in the US and it does a great job returning search results that are relevant to me here, even though it's intended for people in Europe.
I also switched from Gmail to Posteo, ChatGPT to Le Chat and Firefox to Waterfox.
I plan to replace Google Drive with Nextcloud, sometime in the next few months when I have the time to set it up.
Google Maps will be the hardest to replace. I've tried 8 or so competitors and they all pale in comparison.
I switched to Posteo too and it's perfect for my needs.
I'm in the US and people have been recommending this site for weeks and I don't get it.
Why blindly trust them? There's almost no info about how they arrive at their ratings and no sources provided anywhere. These could be completely made up numbers for all we know.
I wish there was a better site to use for this purpose because this one leaves so much to be desired.
I ditched Spotify recently after it started pushing MAGA/Musk content for no reason. I tried Deezer and Qobuz and really wanted to like them, but Qobuz had the most godawful terrible recommendations and Deezer's Android app had poorly designed navigation and felt like it hadn't been updated in a decade.
I'm in the US and wanted to switch from Gmail to a privacy focused European email provider, so I paid for a year of Posteo and so far I've been really happy with it. The service is excellent, it's inexpensive and their ethics/values as an organization are wonderful.
Glad to hear they added that feature! I downloaded it again and I'm going to give it another try.
If you've purchased food through the app from restaurants that cook your meal fresh, doesn't that go against the point of the app which is to reduce food waste by purchasing food that would otherwise be thrown out? Maybe cooking the food fresh for Too Good To Go customers isn't quite as bad as restaurants that prepare extra food in advance just to sell on the app (and end up throwing away much of it), but they're still using the app as another way to sell food without any regard to reducing food waste. If the goal is to reduce food waste then they shouldn't be preparing anything extra for users of the app.
Awesome, thank you!! No idea why bottom navigation was disabled, but this worked.
I worked at a food bank a couple years ago and we regularly received pallets of government cheese through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). They were massive blocks of orange cheddar with almost no text on the label. We also received pallets of government pistachios and dried cherries that were as good as any you'd buy in a store.
I tried this app and while I love the concept I think the implementation is trash.
My biggest complaint when I tried it was that you couldn't specify dietary restrictions, like there's not even a simple vegetarian option which would be so easy for many restaurants to accommodate. This app might be ok if you're happy eating any slop the restaurant can't sell that day, but if you have literally any preference then too bad.
Then there's also the issue of some restaurants that intentionally make extra food so they can sell it on the app. I don't have a solution to this one, but it's a problem that needs to be addressed if the point of the app is to reduce food waste.
