  • I dunno... it's like the difference between a chain restaurant and your favorite local cafe/pub/diner. The chain restaurant has its benefits, but you have the best interactions with your buddies at your local cafe/pub/diner.

  • user retention

yeah, hard to tell.... Lemmy peaked a little under 70k MAUs and is around 45k now... if pixelfed peaks at 300k it's reasonable to think it levels at 200k (i.e. a hundredfold increase from a month ago).

ofc every situation is different... e.g. pixelfed has tighter Mastodon integration (pro) but may depend more on a network effect (con). also iirc the lemmy MAU count methodology shifted at some point, from post/comment to post/comment/upvote/downvote which is a confound for the lemmy dropoff count...

  • Yeah, what I like about those stories is that they're open-ended enough that you can interpret them in various ways. What you're saying is definitely a valid interpretation.

  • There's a parable about this Taoist Master who's seen standing by a mountain view.

They ask the Master: are you meditating? And the Master says no, I'm just standing here.

They ask the Master: are you contemplating nature? And the Master says no, I'm just standing here.

They ask the Master: are you waiting for something? And the Master says no, I'm just standing here.

Sometimes it's okay to just stand there.

  • Fuck them. If they’re such children that they’re willing to watch the world burn because the side that is looking to help them is smug, they can gargle these nuts and go fuck themselves. I’m done coddling these idiots.

A comic about THAT would be a lot better!

  • I usually post this announcement on !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world but this week's Monsterdon is so clearly a superior A-list movie that... well OK I wouldn't go that far, but it's not as bad as most B-movies.

See what happened is: every week people on mastodon (the fediverse twitter replacement) get together for a B-movie watch party usually focused on monsters. But for the last two weeks, the movies have not just campy but a little more bad than expected. So this week they played it safe and picked a slightly better movie than usual.

Anyway, it's a lot of fun, it's got nostalgia value, it's meme-worthy, it's got Dolph "Rocky IV / Creed II" Lundgren, Courtney "Friends" Cox, and Oscar-nominee Frank Lagella, and here's your chance to watch it along with a bunch of wits and miscreants from across the fediverse. So only one question remains: Do you have the power?
