1. When people in the modern day call someone a social democrat, they generally refer to the modern definition. The modern social democrat aims to reform capitalism to be more fair, as opposed to democratic socialists, who want to achieve socialism.
2. Social liberals like FDR are rather similar to modern social democrats. They have a different lineage, but in terms of policy the main distinguishing factor is a distaste for state-owned enterprises.
3. While I do not discount the possibility that he is intentionally moderating the positions he espouses publicly, he does not want to do away with private ownership, which is the goal of socialism. That being said, he goes much further than most social democrats in how much he wants to nationalize, how much he wants to incentivize coops, and how he wants 20% of major companies to be owned by the employees.

If ratification was necessary, then it is almost exactly what is described in the second article.

In lefty circles such as most of Lemmy, "gender" refers to the social norms and expectations that are attached to sex.

Personally, I think choosing the word "gender" to describe gender roles was a mistake. A call to abolish gender norms seems pretty reasonable, but if you're uninformed about this definition the call to abolish gender sounds utterly deranged.

In both cases, the powers that be created a situation where the populace was very vulnerable, leaving them in a position where one bad harvest was all it took. In both cases, the elites then proceeded to make the situation worse because of a combination of immense incompetence and intentional imperialist shenanigans aimed at squeezing out wealth and putting down the rowdy colonized folk.

I've come to see the Great Famine as the free-market capitalist equivalent of the Holodomor. The more I learn about either, the more parallels I see.
