MAGA influencer Nick Fuentes accused of assaulting woman outside his home
  • It turns out in America it's surprisingly easy to get away with pepper spraying people. There's a weird YouTube rabbit hole of "free speech auditors" who go around doing things they're legally allowed to do but are shitty to get reactions. They escalate things until they pepper spray the person they're aggravating. Even in their own videos cops show up and basically just shrug. I think the logic is that since it doesn't cause any long term damage that a lawyer can pretty easily argue it was a "reasonable force"

Short answer: I'd be surprised if he suffers any consequences from this

  • Rogule: Rogule is a minimalist online Roguelike game you play in your web browser. Everyone gets the same dungeon each day. You get one chance to beat each day's dungeon.
  • I've been doing this game for a few months now. Today was a pretty easy day. There have been a few where there were double vampires or a dragon guarding the last room in such a way that you can't kite them around that I couldn't figure out how to beat. However I think like most of these daily games, it is built for you to usually succeed

  • Whats a current obstacle or challenge in your life you'd like to share and have people brainstorm for solutions?
  • With zero sarcasm: thank you for taking the time to write that explanation out.

However, this is kind of exactly what I'm talking about. You're saying I can use plex, or jellyfin, or kodi, with all the opperating systems (but not?) and you say I can stream to smart TVs, are Chromecasts smart? I can follow instructions, I just don't understand how this technology stack works together. Nobody even tells me what Linux distro to use!

  • Whats a current obstacle or challenge in your life you'd like to share and have people brainstorm for solutions?
  • I'm fed up with streaming platforms and want to turn an old PC into a pirate movie streaming server. It'd be nice to have a detailed guide on what services to use, how to get it to stream to devices, and how to set up a VPN. I assume a Linux distro makes the most sense but I have no platform alleigence. I'm generally pretty competent with computers but I'd like the guide to assume I know nothing about Linux, because I my only experience is with my steam deck

  • Is Musk's $1m-a-day cash giveaway to US voters legal?
  • I meant taking his money to vote. Yes your vote is private but that you voted is not. So if you sign his form, collect his money, and then go vote, I have heard it is possibly illegal. Which is why I'd suggest most people just stay away from this rather than try to game his system

  • Is Musk's $1m-a-day cash giveaway to US voters legal?
  • I have seen a few legal theorists saying there's a possibility that's illegal too. And if I had to gamble on who's more likely to get fucked over between Elon and a regular person? I'd probably be willing to bet all of Elon's money on the regular person getting shafted

  • Should you trust that doctor?
  • I agree he should be a little farther right, but his origin story is all about how his injury specifically prevented him from doing surgery anymore. Plus some iterations of him with the time stone might not have thought about medicine in hundreds of years. His magic also seems to not be healing focused. So I kinda get why he is under qualified comparatively

  • If I wanted to die in a viking funeral, like getting put on a boat and set ablaze while I am in the middle of the sea can this be done? Or is it even legal?
  • Generally speaking in America it's very difficult to obtain custody of a corpse after the authorities have it in their possession. While there are many types of funeral options viking burials are not one. Regular fire does not burn hot enough to fully burn a human body, which is why cremation uses special equipment. Generally nobody wants partially burnt corpses in their river, so you're either going to be illegally polluting or going to international waters. Generally you'll need to convince some combination of funeral director, medical examiner, coroner, hospital director, and the police to give you custody of the body. It seems unbelievable to me that you'll be able to convince all those people to give you a body for a viking funeral

On to illegal ways you could accomplish this: not reporting a dead body is not only a crime but also makes you incredibly suspicious for fraud at a minimum and murder at the max. Not acquiring a death certificate will make dealing with any estate very difficult. Stealing the body from wherever it is located will likely get you charges for defacing a dead body. You could bribe some people to look the other way but if that fails that's also a crime

In short, no you can't really do it. However, this is America, so presumably with enough money to the right people you could probably work it out. But we're talking .01% level money and connections

  • Abortion passes inflation as top election concern for women under 30, survey finds
  • Sure, we might have record unemployment, inflation can be low, and by most metrics the American economy is doing well. However people are feeling squeezed. They're spending more on rent, groceries, health insurance, other necessities than they have in their entire lives. Most people don't have the vocabulary to describe that economically so they use words they've heard. In most people's heads inflation=things are more expensive. So they complain about inflation even if that's inaccurate

Me: I can't believe you stopped me from defenestrating that guy! Do you know how often you get a chance to defenestrate someone?

Player 2: I don't even know what that means

    Me: Exactly!

Defenestration (n): the action of throwing someone out of a window

[Bug] Clicking a link to a lemmy community on a card doesn't work

When someone links to a community if you open the post and then follow the link it works fine. If you're browsing with cards and try to follow the link from the card without opening the actual post it attempts to open the link in a browser which fails because the link is not the full URL. It would be nice if clicking the link would take me to that community on that instance, which is what it does when you open the post and click the link
