  • I'm pretty sure after you collect more money than you know what to do with, the flunkies you pay to yes-man you and take care of your needs is not enough. You start needing power and being worshiped. You've convinced yourself you're a genius so you ought to be in charge of the universe because you're so damn brilliant. You have a vision for the world and use your vast amounts of money to position yourself to achieve it. It's entirely onanistic; you don't know or care how your vision will actually affect people and economics, because you're so convinced your plan is perfect - if course it is, it's yours, right?

  • You have to wonder if the "absence" was intentional, a de facto no vote, but defensible. Sadly, the only reason I can think of why they'd avoid participating is because they wouldn't want such a report released on them in retaliation, which implies skeletons in their closets or those of fellow Dems. If there are other reasons I'd like to hear them.

  • Yep with the exodus, you'll have a glut of apartments without tenants. You don't raise your prices in that situation, you lower them because a lower amount of rent is better than nothing. I'm friends with an apartment manager; yes we talk shop, this is what actually happens.

  • I totally agree with you about how critical thinking is harder to come by. I do think some of it has to do with the vast number of information sources out there. There's so much stuff competing for attention, diametrically opposed opinions, opinions presented as facts, etc that perhaps critical thinking is harder than it was in simpler times, when getting information was pretty much limited to books, the newspapers, and TV, all of which had to pass through editors in order to be made public.

  • There's a huge amount of boomer hatred out there which is very misplaced. Nearly all the people who are leading MAGA are GenX at most and a lot of millennials. All the Proud Boys and such have to be young enough to believe they can physically fight. It is 100% stupid Republican ideas that are going to screw this country up.

  • I would love to see more Japanese moving over to Bluesky. I've effectively moved there, but can't really leave Twitter because I follow a lot of Japanese game devs there, and they don't have a strong reason to leave like Americans do.

  • And you don't have one asshole owner boosting visibility of his own posts and those of accounts he likes, and lowering visibility/shadowbanning those of people he doesn't. The "For You" feed tends to have not stuff you actually enjoy, but things that make you angry.
