Got called out in the card night chat...

On the other hand, it's nice having a non-explicitly political thread where I can share !amerikkka !zionist-despair content.

My students' parents yearn for homework
  • And on the other hand there was this one kid who was a god at Qu'uran recitation (he would do it as a distraction strategy is how I know) but he needed to work on his phonics skills a lot who would memorize our little readers that we would send home by having his mom read it to him so he wouldn't have to develop his decoding skills in class. So happy for mans but we had to ban him from supplemental work because it was harming his growth.

  • My students' parents yearn for homework

j.j I teach lower elementary so it hasn't felt super necessary but I'm worried they might complain. I think I'll give out some fun reinforcement activities for class points and not for grade credit. Esp. since a lot of my kids don't have much support at home so it doesn't seem fair.

Plus they're in class for 7 hours a day! Let them have a break and a chance to be kids.

    Pumpkin spice!!
  • It's to measure insulin response in diabetic people. Also it's not plain, it's pumpkin spice! :p

The goal is to give someone under monitoring a very large volume of sugar in a controlled environment and measure their body's insulin response. This is particularly a test of Phase I insulin response when your body responds to sugar intake by releasing stored insulin as opposed to Phase II insulin response where your body secretes insulin as it is produced to bring down elevated blood sugar after the Phase I stores are depleted.

That said this is a nutty amount of sugar and I had no idea that they made them this large.

  • Is there any way to give up video games? Fromsoftware and Nintendo titles will be hardest for me to drop
  • Seconding @starkillerfish@hexbear.net. I gave up on games a while ago because I realized how anxious they made me and how bad my body felt after playing for an extended period of time. I mostly replaced it with reading and by spending more time with friends but I don't think I would have been able to give it up as effectively without those avenues which are not accesible to everyone.

  • What is a fair price to pay my friend to house sit our electrician friend?
  • Our friend group has a pretty good informal time-bank/work-trade situation but the volume and frequency of work in the next period is more than is reasonable to ask and that I can contribute. I'm tapped out with work and other obligations otherwise I would just be the assistant to my friend doing the main work on weekends but working the weekends too has been killing me.

  • What is a fair price to pay my friend to house sit our electrician friend?

They would have to just hang out and not really be able to leave for 5-6 hours while our other friend is working, but could do their own thing. Basically they are just there for safety reasons if anything happens to our friend doing the work who we have a fair price established. First friend has a lot of sedentary hobbies so boredom isn't a risk but I want to treat them fairly.

I 'need' a new e-reader for less than $100 what are your recommendations?

My old one got squished in moving. It was a Kobo Klara I got as a gift. Before, I had a refurbished kindle paperwhite 7th gen that I liked the UI of much more but didn't like having an Amazon product.

Wondering what is out there now.

My main desiderata is that it has warm backlighting and is small. Would also like better .pdf reading than the Kobo that was basically non-doable.

So I found out the bugfuck heatwave in the Midwest is called 'corn sweat'

Evidently this swampmoding swelter is a byproduct of late-Summer corn perspiration or 'corn sweat'. All I know is the air hurts and I don't have no A/C. Time to see what slop they're slinging at the cinema!

E: update I went to play cards at an air conditioned bar with my friends and now I got two box fans pointed at me.

Working on an essay on amber-posting. Please send me screanbeans or links of the most creative or succesful amberposts you have seen.

I will be blocking anyone who patly, rotely, or otherwise provides a sniveling, braindead 'amber' reply to this thread without further contextualization or theorization.

    This is not a badpost.

I want a copper roof so bad

Why is the durable, environmentally sustainabler, net cheapest option always the one that is out of reach for the average person? It would look so swag. My crow brain is HEAVING! I want to live in the shiny penny house.

Also could anyone who has put on a metal roof share about their experience? Did it feel worth it? I'm planning to die in this house and I'm still young.

Absolutely Mind-boggling beat boxing 'Objet' by Hiss and WING

Hexbear has been around for FOUR YEARS!!!

Holy shit I had no idea it had been that long but I got a cake day message and it made me check lol. Anyways thanks for all the laughs and learning over the years. I am so grateful this space exists...maybe it's finally time to get on the liberapay lmao.

Some of my best personal writing has started as comments or posts where I got too pressed/invested and the pen ain't turn off. Overall, I still really struggle with setting appropriate boundaries with the internet but the lower speed and higher quality of this forum have been real boons to me.

    Keep posting. !rat-salute-2
