Help Mozilla Test the Thunderbird for Android Beta | Mozilla Thunderbird is an open-source, privacy-focused email app
  • we don't need another mail app. they should've just supported FairEmail. it's great and works flawlessly. developed by one guy who does not get enough in return. if you can, support him by buying the premium version and yourself by switching to the best android mail client. https://email.faircode.eu/

  • M*crosoft's search engine is borderline unusable
  • tbf it seems to be a common issue with search engines atm. brave also has the stupid ai response topmost, and startpage without adblock pushes in so many sponsored results that you need to scroll to get to anything else

  • What android phones do you recommend and why?
  • if it is of any help, i have been using a OP6 running /e/os for over a year now, as a daily driver. central europe, have not ran into any issues banking wise, other than one 2fa app complaining every time it is launched (but still functioning fine) edit: sadly the battery life is now starting to decay quickly, and i also had an accident that left both front and back glass shattered, so i may soon upgrade.

  • PasswordManagement: which one of these options would you choose?
  • that's genius. i have never even considered that you could use a (sub)domain with a local ip like that to get a certificate from a trusted ca. i ma not sure i understand the neccessity for api access to your dns service. is the txt record for LE different every time you have to pass a challenge? otherwise i imagine you could just set and forget the record.

thank you for the explanation, well appreciated!

  • PasswordManagement: which one of these options would you choose?
  • could you expand a bit on your edit? so bitwarden extensions need a valid ssl certificate for the domain where the server is hosted? how do you get that for (i assume) a local domain? thank you for your time!

  • The Internet is not forever after all: CNET deletes old articles to game Google
  • i still think this kind of shotgun approach is not ideal, and the extension seems more like a service to me than a way to help the ia. so "help contribute" is not the wording i would chose. but i very well might be missing the point. i do love the internet archive and their fight for information freedom, don't get me wrong. this was more of a nitpick.

  • The Internet is not forever after all: CNET deletes old articles to game Google
  • does this actually help the internet archive in any way? as in are your local ressources used or ad revenue generated? i fail to see how telling them to archive everything you visit is of any help to them. other than you being basically a crawler, i guess

  • Google Messages just flicked the switch on end-to-end encryption for all RCS and group chats
  • they sunsetted the sms functionality in their app "to focus on the signal protocol and make it less confusing for people" if i remember correctly. not a big deal to me, the few sms i send i can use a different app for

  • [Question] Hardware MFA: product reccommendations?
  • that is really cool! i have so many questions! is it visible from the outside? can you still have an mri scan? does the metal detector at airports detect it? can you feel it under your skin?

  • [Question] Hardware MFA: product reccommendations?
  • Thank you for the explanation. I wanted to not just buy the most popular thing from the near monopoly brand, but I really only read good things about the yubikey 5 series. At the moment I think I am veering towards buying that.

  • [Question] Hardware MFA: product reccommendations?

I am im the market for a hardware key for MFA. I want to put it on my keyring and put it in my pocket so I always have it with me. I guess it should be quite sturdy for that (no easily broken off connectors, ...) I mainly want to use it as additional factor for my Bitwarden vault. Do you have any recommendations, experiences, stories? Yubikey seems to be by far the brand most recommended. Solo is nice bc open source hard/firmware, but I care more about reliability and usability than openness I think.

    Thank you for your insights!
