  • I understand if the mods remove the post, but also appreciate other people understanding why I did post it here.

E: though as of now at least one of my replies laughing at this clown has been removed by the mod. Not the mod my post is about mind, but a power tripping buddy I guess (probably for "being a dick" while undoubtedly claiming all Europeans are just jealous of Americans magically doesn't come under that category). So maybe it actually qualifies for this community now? lmao

  • makes sense from administrative perspective to not allow blocking admins.

That in itself is a power trip (sure, if they are a sole admin of an instance, which they aren't, they should have the option to dm any user even if they block them, but them being an admin doesn't mean anyone should be forced to encounter their personal brand of bullshit as they scroll).

Either way, that on its own is enough to get me to change instance, and db0 is probably my first choice, I just need to gather enough brain spoons to make the move lol

  • I find it a little frustrating that you think any of this started with, because of, or will end with cheeto.

    This:

a fractured nation, a failing education system, crumbling infrastructure, and a healthcare system that leaves millions behind

has always been the case, and it is a feature, not a bug. Always has been.

And it will never change as long as you continue to focus on the things the system tells you to focus on (like team red vs team blue, or the clown at the front of the stage) rather than on the system itself (a state mechanism built on slavery and genocide from day dot, and designed and enforced by and for the rich and powerful, who are the ones actually pulling the strings) and abolishing that.

And before OP gets their underwear in a twist - all states are oppressive and should be abolished, but a country founded on and with the biggest hard on for capitalism on the planet, and who has the power to, and has been since its founding, loudly and aggressively dragging the rest of the world on a race to the bottom (if not directly with war mongering and political interfering, then with profiteering off of their enemies war mongering and politically interfering), deserves all the criticism it gets, and the fact that it's easier for you to create a straw person to dismiss the perfectly valid and long overdue criticism, than it is to hear them and sit with the mild discomfort it causes you to hear the truth and confront reality, is a you problem, not a lemmy problem.

  • Lol, I got my vegan card revoked (declared "a carnist") and handed my first fedi ban by the "Real Vegans™" too, for daring to call out their bullshit and ableist militant gatekeeping.

Good luck to them and the toxic cesspit they're so adamant on maintaining, the last thing anyone should be seeking is these people's approval, especially not on being a "good" or "real" vegan, since they make it crystal clear that their top priority is and always will be their own egos. ¯(ツ)_/¯

  • I have to tell you, that Action Park shit is still sitting with me.. 😂

Seriously though, thanks for managing that community, it's a good 'un. I've woken up many a morning to a wiki page you led me to lol

E: also, it's 3:45am now, am feeling a little called out by op (though I had actually gone to sleep at 10pm too, it's just that I've woken up since 😭)

  • So the queerphobia is gross in its own right, but the more quiet part is that ableism and abusing and discriminating against mentally ill people is a-ok too (and while sexual orientation and gender identity clearly aren't mental illnesses, there is also nothing wrong with being mentally ill, but unfortunately the readiness of some to distance themselves from and throw mentally ill people under the bus to save themselves will very quickly become apparent, and everyone needs to consciously be avoiding that trap).

  • being patient like that definitely a skill that is not always easy to get right, and certainly takes practice.

What it mostly takes is mountains of privilege.

Not to mention that tone policing and demanding faux civility (but only from one side, the other gets to openly support oppressive constructs and still be seen as "well meaning" while those defending their humanity and fighting for survival get framed as the problem) are tools that serve to further oppress already marginalise voices, not uplift them.

    Do better.

  • Ah, yes, women as possessions owned by their husbands and fathers, and used as objects to inflict revenge on other men with, how enlightened and progressive, and not just as shitty and harmful as when they do it. 🙄(heavy /s)

(and because defensive people like to make up straw people to protect their ego and cognitive dissonance - fuck the entire trump family, this isn't a defence of any of them, it's an indictment of how deeply misogyny is rooted in the entirety of society, including leftist circles that consider themselves "progressive" yet are happy to resort to this kind of counterproductive and harmful bullshit)

    Switching notifications off?

I'm not sure what happened, but for the last few days I'd had no notifications for new replies (which were coming in thick and fast), and it was absolute bliss.

Unfortunately I had a power cut and my PC rebooted, and now the notifications are back (including those that weren't showing before), so I assume it was an error on my end but still - is it possible to make this a real option?

In an ideal world it would be like on reddit where you could switch off notifications per post and even per thread, but I'll take an all or nothing option at this point.

Saw this random video, curious what kind of machine it is of

@sag@lemm.ee shared a link to this great site earlier and I've been watching random videos on it, and this came up.

It's of no importance, just curiosity about both what the machine is, and will anyone on here recognise it (could be pretty generic for its field, my guess might be medical/imaging? or could be something unique, I have no idea!)
